Collider (Audio Edition - All Shows)

On this installment of AMC Mail Bag (Saturday January 31st 2015) we take the following viewer emails:

Kate Kolman writes: Hi guys, love the show – I just have one question regarding the lack of female superheroes represented in comic book movies. I recently read a statistic about the new 52, which claims that 48% of the people that bought it were women – yet there is only one woman on the team? Do you think the DCCU will add another female character to its rooster in the coming Justice League films (such as Hawkgirl or Zatanna) with their own stand-alone movie? I always thought they could have the shayera hol version of the hawkgirl character looking for her partner after being abandoned on earth, or as a bad-ass Lara Croft character searching for a secret artefact and stumbling upon the lost relics of thanagar. I personally think that the justice league should have another female member on its team.

Mark Byers writes: Hi AMC, thanks for being such a reliable source of movie news. Keep up the good work. My question is What makes a movie timeless? Films like the The Princess Bride, though dated, have a sense of timelessness. How is this? Thanks and bring the filthy, you must.

Nathan Quayle writes: Could we see a live action Voltron movie?  Thanks!

Thomas Begeman writes: Hi AMC, I love your videos! With Joss Whedon confirming that he will not be returning to direct Infinity War part 1 and 2. What will he do next? I think it would be a mistake if Disney  didn't get Joss Whedon to direct a Star Wars movie, specifically episode 9 and we know he wouldnt turn it down. I think his style would be great for a fun Return of the Jedi type movie. He can also direct the dark tones that Rian Johnson will most likely be writing. I think it would be stupid if they didn't add Joss Whedon to their already stellar A-list directing talent before he started on something else. He certainly has the connections at Disney, so I don't think this is too far fetched. What are your thoughts on this?

Andrew McKewen writes: Hi AMC, watching your show is one of the highlights of my day! I was wondering, if an actor had two movies come out in the same year, and both were outstanding performances, could he/she be nominated twice for best actor/actress; one for each role? What are the rules on that? Thanks and keep up the great work.

Jordan Allen writes: Hey Guys, just wanted you guys opinion on the 2012 Total Recall. It has... not good reviews but, not expecting much from it going in and not comparing it to the old one I thought it was a decent little action movie. Plus I like the performances given by Farrell and Beckingsale. Your thoughts?

Benny Lin writes: Hi AMC Movie Crew, love the energy and excitement and enthusiasm you all bring to films. I was wondering if maybe Warner Bros delayed Jupiter Ascending to Feb because of some special effects as well as to capitalize on Eddie Redmayne's potential Oscar nomination and other awards (at that time) and Channing Tatum's growing star power. I'm hoping the movie is better than we all expect it to be because I'm a big fan of the Wachowskis and the talent involved.

Brandon Vallejo writes: Hi guys love the show and thank you for helping me keep up to date with my movie news. My question is do you think that there is a chance that we'll see another The Mask movie with Jim Carrey in it? Thank you so much guys and keep up the great work.

On this installment of AMC Mail Bag (Sunday January 25th 2015) we take the following viewer emails:

Jake Berlin writes: My question is about Brendan Fraser. I just recently watches 'Crash' again, I forgot that Brendan Frasier was in it. The last time I remember seeing him on the big screen was the last (bad) 'Mummy' movie & before that was that little cameo in the first G.I. Joe. I always thought he was a solid actor, not bad enough to kind of just disappear at least. Thoughts?

David Perez writes: Greetings AMC crew! I Hope you're all having a wonderful day. My question is: How do directors cast themselves in their own movies? Do they go through the same process an actor would go through or do they simply just cast themselves because it's their movie? Examples of what I mean are Ben Affleck in Argo, and Jon Favreau in Chef

Dylan Stocksdale writes: Hey guys love the show! Do you guys think it's possible we might get a Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice Teaser during the Super Bowl? Love to here your thoughts and keep up with great work!

Simon Gaarde Hansen writes: I always hear people complaining about Johnny Depp for bad performences. Sure, he hasn't exactly been on a role lately, but he has had film like public enemies, rango and tusk. It seems like people has forgoten how good he actully is. Why dosn't other actors recive as much critisism? Has it become a "cool" thing to complain about johnny? What is up with this? Thanks, and John, bring on that filthy

Kunnal Kainth writes: Hi AMC! I've started watching your show every day for the past year and I would have to honestly agree with John that it is the "best damn movie related show on the planet earth". My question is regarding about box office failures. Why do some movies financially fail even when there are big name actors attached to it? You would assume studios expect a huge return when they invest in big Hollywood stars. One example that comes into mind is Marvel invests a lot in Robert Downy Jr. because they expects his star power to translate into movie ticket transactions. However, why didn't this workout with "The Judge"?

Alex Espinal writes: I am a huge fan of my 80s cartoons and I would love for a life action film based on the Thundercats, I would love it if it was made in the same fashion as the new Planet of the Apes films. Do you think this might be in the scope of possibility? it was an iconic and popular cartoon series and I'm somewhat surprised no one has ever tackled it. Thanks and love the show.

Jorge Castillo writes: Hey AMC crew, I'm love your show, been seeing it since all begun, my question is, have you ever thought showing AMC studios? Or how you prepared for AMC Movie Talk? Including offices including John's, Amirose’s?

Ricky Mulock writes: Hi everyone! With his collaborations with Jared Leto and Ben Affleck, is there a possibility that David Fincher may be the one to take on the upcoming solo Batman film?

On this episode of AMC Mail Bag (Saturday January 24th 2015) we take the following viewer emails:

Niall Collins writes: Hi guys love the show and never miss an episode. How do you think disney should announce the first spinoff? I personally think it should be in the end credits of the force awakens

Jesse Writes: Hi AMC, huge fan. 2015 looks like the most exciting year for movies. Directors like Spielberg, Scorsese, Tarantino, Terrance Malick and David O Russell have movies coming out this year. With movies from Tom Hanks, Robert Redford [Truth], Michael Fassbender [Macbeth], Leo Dicaprio [The Revenant] and Joseph Gordon-Levitt [The Walk] coming out this year. And movies from Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence [Joy], Cate Blanchett [Carol], Nicole Kidman [Queen of the dessert] and Julianne Moore [Freeheld], isn't the 2016 Oscars too predictable?

Henry O writes: I just wonder why people keep thinking and saying that Marvel is going to have their first "flop" or "bomb" soon Guardians of The Galaxy already proved people wrong and I'm hoping Ant-Man will next; but yet I still hear people predict Marvel films will flop everytime they release a new property along with a sequel to a known character when they have already had their first flop (well financially) - "The Incredible Hulk”! Out of all the MCU films it is the lowest profit film to date hence why there has not been any sequel, reboot or even remake announced to this day, so why do people keep forgetting this?

Adithya Kashyap writes: Hey AMC crew, Love the show. I wanted to ask you what are the chances of a Scooby-Doo Franchise reborn ? It is defenitely a favorite among many and can be a great movie with spooky comedy. I know they tried once but I think it bombed because nothing came after that, Any chances of a studio revisiting it.

John Long writes: Hey guys! I found your show over a year ago and I can honestly say I'm hooked. I watch your show every day. I enjoyed the Sherlock Holmes films... I have been waiting patiently for the third installment to hit theaters, but I haven't heard anything about it. The second film left us believing that there's a third film underway! Is Robert Downy Jr, Jude Law, and Warner Bros. going to make "Sherlock Holmes 3?

Crocuta Crocuta writes: My question is about Ron Howard's In the Heart of the Sea. Just 2 months before it's release it was pushed to December 2015. Is that only in USA or worldwide (IMDb is a bit confusing at the moment)? And what does that mean for the film? Are they doing it for awards-sake or are there some serious problems with the film? I was quite looking forward to it, I enjoy Ron Howard's work very much.

Roger Toba writes: Great show and always very thoughtful about the movies. I saw your video regarding the Oscar nominations and thought everything you said made perfect sense over your predictions about the nominees and who would win. However, I later heard about how much "American Sniper" made in its opening weekend and wondered if there could be some sort of "populist sentiment" that could overwhelm enough of the Academy voters to affect the final results and possibly open the door for the movie to sweep in the 6 categories it has nominations for?

MisterT writes: l've been a regular viewer for 3 years now. I have a question, given that 2016 may be the biggest year for superheroes movie yet. WB/DC has 2 movies Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad, Disney/Marvel has 2 movies Captain America: Civil War and Dr. Strange, Fox has 3 movies: Deadpool, X-men: Apocalypse and Gambit. Which one will win at the box office. I think WB/DC will win, given that BvS is the most talked about movie since the announcement at SDCC. Thanks and keep up the great work.
