Collider Heroes - Henry Cavill Talks Superman, Wonder Woman & Suicide Squad

Welcome to Collider’s Heroes, hosted by Jon Schnepp, with John Campea and special guest Chris Gore. We bring you the latest news about the Cinematic World of Heroes and Villains! On this episode of Collider’s Heroes  (Tuesday August 25th 2015) we discuss the following:

1 Superman speaks out!

Henry Cavill says he won’t appear in Suicide Squad, thinks Wonder Woman is “an incredibly strong chracter. She can go toe to toe with Superman sometimes” , Lois Lane is “the baseline to his humanity, literally keeping his feet on the ground, down to earth”. Who is better for Superman?

2 George Miller could be directing “Man of Steel 2”?

A rumor from inside sources have stated that George Miller has met with DC about directing several DC movie properties, and he wants “Man of Steel 2”. If this happens what do you think about it?

3 It’s a Wrap!!!

Suicide Squad, Xmen Apocalypse, and Civil War all wrapped principal photography this week! Recent picts from the sets have us talking about Joker pranks, Storms home, skwad tattoos, and hawkeye, war machine and antman with cap shoots.

4 Chewitel Ejiofor is excited to be a baddie!

Chewitel Ejiofor recently stated in EW “I am doing Doctor Strange, and I’m incredibly  excited about it, that’s all I can say” and about Benedict “He’s a good friend of mine”, and Tilda Swinton “I haveny worked with her, but I’m excited to work with her. She’s brilliant.”

5 “Preacher” is shooting, with first looks on Cassidy and Arseface!

Seth Rogen’s adaptation for AMC has actor Joe Gilgun as the vampire Cassidy, and Ian Colletti as Arseface.

Minor Mutations

1 Stephen Amell in WWE Summerslam!!

2 Nathan Fillion would like to play Booster Gold

3 Michael Chiklis as Nathaniel Barnes in Gotham

4 Lea Seydoux is Bella Donna Boudreaux in Gambit

5 Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) is in Civil War

Flashback - The Mask (1994)

A fun adaptation of the dark horse comic series created by , this film directed by Chuck Russell stars the already rubber faced Jim Carrey in his first of threefeature films that year (Ace Ventura and Dumb and Dumber being the other two), as well as the debut of Cameron Diaz. Safe to say this film put them both on the map as major talents, and the film’s outlandish cartoony yet creepily realistic effects kept us all guessing what the next thing the Mask would do got nominated for an Oscar.

Spotlight - The Micronauts (1990)

Based on the popular toys, written by Bill Mantlo with stunning artwork from Michael Golden, this comic series rivaled the cosmic fantasy of Star Wars for me as a child reading these comics! This series has been begging to get made, either as an animated series, or a feature film! Let’s get small and sweat it out about the Micronauts!

On this episode of Collider Mail Bag (Sunday August 23rd 2015) we take the following viewer emails:

Stevan Mladenovic writes: Greetings Collider Crew, huge fan of the show. My question for today is: Why do studios wait so long to release movies on DVD? I understand they want as many people as possible to see the movie in theaters But some movies (Avengers Age of Ultron for example is coming to DVD on October 2nd, 5 months after the movie Released). Wouldn't if be better to Release it on DVD sooner while the movie is Fresh so that all the people who weren't able to catch it in theaters or just want to watch the movie for the 10th time (like me) can, without resulting in Pirating.

Johan writes: Since the short film, Frozen Fever, introduced the little snowmen, how do you think they will (or should) handle that in Frozen 2? Will they have to show their origin again? I'm sure not everyone will have seen Frozen Fever by the time Frozen 2 comes out.

Toochukwu Onwuliri writes: My question is, with the success that Disney has with its subsidiaries like Marvel, Pixar, Disney animation and now Lucas Films, why have other movie companies not copied this concept. I believe this will reduce unnecessary studio interference in movie making. After your discussion on committees making movies in Fox and WB, it just sounds like a great idea for movie companies to create subsidiaries with each one having an identifiable key figure like Feige, Kennedy etc.To an extent Warner has achieved this on Television with HBO, CW etc but have not applied this to their movie production studio.

Evelyn Jorquera Quiroz writes: i was watching the mockingjay part 2 trailer on youtube today and realise that on the coment section it was full of spoilers of the film, and all things that will happen in this last movie... i look other trailers online and saw that this keeps happening and people who think they are funny keep posting this stupid coments on many trailers of movies that a mayor part of the audience watching them may not know every details of the plot. Do you think studios or the youtube channels should take more precautions on the platforms that they post their movie  trailers and not allow comments to avoid this, or it is a problem of the audience who should respect the right to every person to see and be surprised in a movie theater?

Christopher Frais writes: Hello Crew! Love your work! Now, here's my question: what if, through some god sent miracle, the MCU and the DCEU came together to make a crossover movie(or movies)? What do you guys think would have to happen to make this collaboration and story work? And just how much will change the film industry if this team up is very successful?

Geo Gomez writes: Hey collier crew, so the official trailer dropped for Beast of No Nation starring Edris Elba, and it looks really good. What are your thoughts on it?... Just judging on the trailer it looks like Edris could be going for an Oscar... too early to call?

Charles Testrake writes: I have noticed a disturbing trend I would like your opinion and analysis of.  Many of my friends and colleagues are no longer going to movie theaters anymore.  When I ask them why, the three most common reasons that I get are that it is too expensive to take the whole family, that they can just wait three months for Blu-ray or streaming, or that they know this website where they can watch new movies for free.  So as technology continues its advancement, and with the advent of virtual reality devices over the next several years; will movie theatres soon become obsolete?

Ali Makaveli writes: Why don't Hollywood take risks on new original movies rather than making sequels or things that have already been done in the past? I understand the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality, but surely it's worth taking risks sometimes and see what happens? Apart from Avatar, we haven't seen another original movie for a few years. Will we ever see another "Avatar"? I.e. a successful movie that isn't a sequel, remake or re-imagining?

On this episode of Collider Mail Bag (Saturday August 22nd 2015) we take the following viewer emails

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT about Collider Video doing TV Recaps!

Revisiting the issue of exclusive footage shows at conventions.

Robert Ohlsson writes:  Hi! I was just wondering what happened to that Tarzan-movie with Alexander Skarsgård in it? And what is you're thoughts about it?

Joseph Stevens writes: Hi Collider Crew. Love the show and watch it everyday. My question is regarding the box office success of Star Wars The Force Awakens. It has been mentioned on the show before by John that the box office may be slightly hindered by the hatred of the prequels. But surely the love of the original trilogy and the return of original cast members like Harrison Ford will bring nostalgia that will overcome that hatred for the prequels. Also, sequels to awful films have performed amazingly at the box office, such as the Transformers films. What are your thoughts? Thanks and keep up the good work.

Young Phoenix writes: Is there ever going to be a six million dollar man film?

Manus writes: Hello guys, I just wanted ask a question about DreamWorks and how they have been unable to win the Oscar for the best animated film since Shrek, the first time the academy introduced the category. In my opinion last year DreamWorks should have won (even though in reality it should have been The Lego Movie, but for some reason the academy had their heads up their own ass’) any way I think that even when they should have won Disney kicked them on the ground and laughed as they stole the win. Do you think they have a chance to win the award again?

Nick Collins writes: Hey Collider crew, loving the new show! My questions are in regards to the two Jungle Book films under production (The Jungle Book 2016 and Jungle Book: Origins 2017). With all the positive feedback Favreau's Jungle Book is receiving following D23, it seems (for now) that this may be a potential hit. In the past, when two very similar movies such as White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen are released in a close time frame, one is typically swept under the rug. Do you think one year is enough time for viewers to be ready for another movie that's essentially the same story or that Jungle Book: Origins could end up suffering from this financially? I'd also like to know how both studios got the rights to this film. Thanks and keep it coming!

Logan writes :  Hey Collider crew! My question is regarding the cliffhanger that the first Incredibles left us on. We see the “Underminer” rise from the ground, posing a threat for the next movie. The only problem with this is that there was a very popular video game that told the story that occured with the new villain. So my question to you is do you think that Incredibles 2 will follow up on the ending of the first incredibles or will it tell a brand new story?

Jan Pitkasalo writes: Hey Collider crew! A few days ago Campea was at D23 and didn't talk a lot about the Pirates of the Caribbean 5 presentation and didn't mention Will Turner coming back for the fifth installment of the franchise. What are your thoughts on Bloom returning? Thank you for an amazing show!

Romello Malone writes: I heard that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will have two different Spider-Man suits in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War.  One that Peter makes for himself a homemade outfit which I believe Is the early wrestling Spider-Man costume, and another that Tony designs for him; the classic red and blue  Spider-Man costume we all know and  love. Do you guys think that Steve Rogers and S.H.E.I.L.D. should be the one to create Spidey’s red and blue Avengers suit and Tony Stark make the Iron Spider Armor In Civil War? Let me hear your thoughts.
