Two familiar faces from the DCEU are back for Justice League. As part of an official announcement from Warner Bros, Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor and Wonder Woman’s queen of the Amazon, Connie Nielsen, are officially joining the movie. They’ll appear with our main Justice Leaguers as well as alongside JK Simmons, Willem Dafoe, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Amber Heard and Ciaran Hinds. With this announcement also came a new EW image from Wonder Woman that shows Diana stealing the mystical Amazonian sword dubbed “god killer.” EW also says this is the very same weapon we saw her wield in Batman v Superman against Doomsday. Wonder Woman debuts in theaters on June 2, 2017 with Justice League hitting five months later on November 17th.

EW revealed a new image from the upcoming War for the Planet of the Apes that also names a character that has a direct link to the original series. The concept art shows a peaceful moment between one of the apes and a human character revealed to be named Nova. Nova is the same character from the original Planet of the Apes, played by Linda Harrison opposite Charlton Heston. EW confirms the Nova in War for the Planet of the Apes is the same character thus offering up the strongest piece of connective tissue between this new franchise and the original.

NEWS RUNDOWN

20th Century Fox is serious about reminding fans of its Alien series that we’re in for a bloody, R Rated film. The studio tweeted another image from Alien: Covenant, this one featuring some blood covered walls of a medical room, signaling some kind of alien attack or chest bursting escape. We’ll have to wait to see what it all means when Alien: Covenent hits theatres on May 19th, 2017.

Michael Fassbender revealed on Josh Horowitz’s podcast happysadconfused, via a report from EW, that he met for a role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Fassbender offered no real specifics, nor did he reveal for what role he was up for; only that he did have a conversation with Lucasfilm but was too busy shooting another project at the time.

The first teaser trailer for James Gray‘sThe Lost City of Z has been released. The movie is based on a true tale of British military man, Percy Fawcett, (Charlie Hunnam) who becomes an explorer in search of the lost city in the Amazon. The movie also stars Robert Pattinson and Tom Holland and will premiere on April 14th 2017.

Rogue One Original Ending Revealed, Dune Reboot With Villeneuve - Collider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (December 22nd, 2016) Dennis Tzeng, Jeremy Jahns, Ken Napzok, Jon Schnepp, Natasha Martinez discuss the following:

1) Denis Villeneuve to helm Dune reboot

2) Gareth Edwards reveals original ending for Rogue One (spoilers)

3) Blade Runner 2049 will be rated R

4) The Expendables 4 coming in 2018, will end series

5) Scorsese’s The Irishman to use de-aging tech for De Niro and Pacino

6) New trailer for War on Everyone starring Alexander Skarsgard and Michael Pena

7) Opening this week

8) Mail Bag

According to an exclusive from Variety, Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 helmer Denis Villeneuve is in early talks to direct Legendary’s Dune reboot. It was back before the Thanksgiving holiday when Legendary closed a deal with the Frank Herbert estate for the rights to his iconic novel; which would grant the production company the rights to a new film as well as for TV-based projects . A release date for the new Dune movie has yet to be set.

Lucasfilm made the gutsy move to craft an entire movie around a genuine suicide mission that actually ended in the deaths of all the major characters. But that wasn’t always the case. As Edwards revealed on the Empire podcast, the ending of Rogue One was significantly different early on in the development process and that the first version the main characters didn't die but everyone from Lucasfilm were on board for it.

BUY OR SELL

The first teaser trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi sequel Blade Runner 2049 landed well with fans of the series as well as generating interest from the casual movie-goer. Now, many fans are wondering if the sequel will retain a similar R rating as the first movie.

According to a report from THR, Splendid Films have acquired the German rights to Expendables 4, the third sequel that was previously distributed by Lionsgate. The film is expected to begin development with a potential release date to be determined in 2018.

In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Martin Scorsese was talking about his latest movie Silence when talk turned to his next movie, The Irishman. Based on the Charles Brandt novel “I Heard You Paint Houses,” it was revealed that the movie would included Robert De Niro and Al Pacino playing both their younger and older selves. Scorsese then confirmed that he would utilize de-aging technology in order to pull this all off.

A new trailer has been released for War on Everyone, the new movie from John Michael McDonagh that stars Alexander Skarsgard and Michael Pena. Skarsgard and Pena play Terry and Bob, crooked cops who try to blackmail and frame every criminal they encounter, but they uncover a larger conspiracy when they try and pull one over on a strip-club manager. The movie is set for release on February 3rd, 2017.

Blade Runner 2049 Teaser, John Wick 2 Trailer - Collider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (December 20th, 2016) John Campea, Kristian Harloff, Mark Ellis, Natasha Martinez discuss the following:

1) Blade Runner 2049 teaser

2) Disney first studio ever to hit $7 billion at box office

3) Opening this week

4) John Wick Chapter 2 Trailer and poster

5) Thor: Ragnarok to include Planet Hulk’s Sakaar

6) Gareth Edwards used unused footage from New Hope for Rogue One

7) Star Wars Release Dates

8) R Rated Batman Movie

The first trailer and plot synopsis has been revealed for Blade Runner 2049. Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years. The movie is directed by Arrival’s Denis Villeneuve, and produced by original director Ridley Scott. It’s set for release on October 6, 2017.

Disney announced yesterday that the studio hit an industry first by becoming the first studio ever to reach $7 billion at the global box office. The milestone comes on the heels of a huge $290 million global debut for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The numbers include strong showings by The Jungle Book, Finding Dory, Captain America: Civil War, Zootopia, Doctor Strange and Moana.

BUY OR SELL

A new trailer has been released for John Wick: Chapter 2 and to coincide with the release Collider.com was given an exclusive poster to debut from Lionsgate Films. The poster features Keanu Reeves’ ex-hitman with the new tag line: “Never stab the devil in the back.” Chad Stahelski, one half of the directing team behind John Wick, takes the helm solo this time with the movie set to hit theatres on February 10, 2017.

It was confirmed a while back that the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok would be using elements from the fan-favorite comic series Planet Hulk. Now, in the latest issue of Total Film (via a report from MCU Exchange) director Taika Waititi has confirmed that the planet Sakaar will be central to the film.

“Sakaar was just an insane, far-off, futurtistic place which was the biggest shift for the film and these characters,” the director said.

In a new interview with Radio Times, Gareth Edwards revealed that he integrated unseen Star Wars: A New Hope footage into the climactic battle sequence found in Rogue One. While Edwards was touring Skywalker Ranch, he discovered the original footage from the Battle of Yavin, which he then digitized and inserted into the movie. From there, Edwards reworked the script to incorporate the unused dialogue while ILM digitally inserted the actors into updated cockpits.

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (December 19th, 2016) John Campea, Kristian Harloff, Mark Ellis discuss the following:

1) Box Office – Rogue One performs beyond estimates with 155 million.

2) Pirates of the Caribbean might bring back franchise star (spoilers)

3) Gerard Butler’s Geostorm loses director, undergoes extensive reshoots

4) New international trailer for Ghost in the Shell

5) Jonah Hill, Rooney Mara join Joaquin Phoenix in Gus Van Sant film

6) New trailer for xXx Retunr of Xander Cage

7) Star Wars Composers

8) Darth Vader Stand Alone

It’s Monday which means it’s time for the weekend box office report brought to you AMC theatres. The Force is strong with Disney and Lucasfilm as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opened as the second best December opening of all time with $155 million for the No 1 spot at the domestic box office, and $290.5 million globally, which is the second-highest opening in December behind Force Awakens. Disney also scored with Moana, which took the No 2 spot with 11.66 million for a domestic total of $161.86 million. Office Christmas Party came in at No 3 with $8.45 million dollars in its second week of release. Collateral Beauty opened horribly with only $7 million from 3,028 theaters for the No 4 spot. And at No 5 was Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which grabbed another $5 million to add to its domestic total of $207.68.

Minor spoiler alert here as we discuss Pirate of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Though production on the fifth film in the billion-dollar franchise has been done for awhile now, it does appear there is one more addition to the cast that hasn’t been reported. According to TooFab (via a report from Slash Film) Keira Knightley has secretly joined the cast, reprising her role as Elizabeth for some scenes. The movie sees the return of Johnny Depp as Captain Sparrow, along with Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner; who will be joined by Javier Bardem who is cast as the new villain. The movie is set for release on May 26, 2017.

BUY OR SELL

THR reports that two years after principal photography was completed on the disaster movie Geostorm, the film is going back for reshoots. The Skydance production stars Gerard Butler and would have marked the directorial debut of Independence Day co-writer/producer Dean Devlin. Devlin was replaced with Judge Dredd director Danny Cannon for the reshoots on the movie that is about Butler going into space in order to prevent climate-controlling satellites from creating “a man-made storm of epic proportions” while also trying to stop an assassination attempt on the president of the United States. It’s slated for release on October 20, 2017.

A new international trailer debuted for Ghost in the Shell. Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, the movie follows the Major played by Scarlett Johansson; a special ops, human-cyborg who leads the elite task force Section 9. Ghost in the Shell arrives in theaters on March 31, 2017.

Variety reports that Oscar nominees Jonah Hill and Rooney Mara are in talks to join Joaquin Phoenix in Gus Van Sant’s new biopic about the quadriplegic cartoonist John Callahan. Based off the bio: Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot, Phoenix will play Callahan, a controversial figure who became paralyzed following a car accident at age 21. He turned to drawing as a form of therapy, and when his cartoons started appearing in the Portland newspaper Willamette Week, the town reacted with boycotts and protests.

A new trailer has been released for xXx: The Return of Xander Cage. Directed by D.J. Caruso, the film stars Vin Diesel, Ruby Rose, Nina Dobrev, Toni Collette, Donnie Yen and Samuel L. Jackson. It is set for release on January 20th, 2017.
