Collider Video - Deadpool Expectations Escalating, Star Wars Anthology Periods

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Wednesday January 27th 2016) we discuss the following issues:

Christian Miller writes: Do you guys think Disney/Lucasfilm will ever make an Anthology set in the prequel era? Thanks, love the show.

Emil Johansson writes: Do you think a future Batman film could take place before Man Of Steel? You wouldn't need to care about questions like "Where was Superman"? Etc plus Ben Affleck being an older Batman that has lost a Robin there could be stories in the past worth exploring.
Thanks.

Austin Davidson: Hello Collider Crew, I've been watching since the AMC days and make your videos a part of my daily schedule. I had a question on what your thoughts on London has Fallen? I saw the trailer for it the other day but never heard you guys mention it. Thanks and Bring on the Filthy!

Deejay DJS writes: Greetings Collider Video love the show been a fan since your Amc Movie new Days you now I was always wondering why so many movies have poor marketing plans I think that Deadpool has done some of the best marketing in the last ten years to try and get people interested in the movie just want to know what you think about it cause everything that Deadpool has done so far has just made me want to see it more.

REWIND (Brought to you by AMC Theatres)

10 Years - Annapolis, Big Momma's House 2, Nanny McPhee

20 Years - Bed Of Roses, Big Bully, Screamers

Kami writes: Hello from Washington DC, My question is about adventure films. I feel like you dont see them around anymore, I just don't see those grand scale epic adventure films anymore (the mummy films, indiana Jones films) what happened? do they just not make any money like they used to? are things that were thought of as spectacles back in the day now just the norm? thanks  and keep up the great work.

Wade Aiken writes: Now that the parademons and the omega symbol have made their debut, with Darkseid obviously not far behind, do you think we'll be seeing any of the other denizens of Apokolips such as Granny Goodness (Kathy Bates?), Baron Vunderbar, Steppenwolf, Kalibak, or the female furies?

Paul McElligott writes: Hey guys, you were wondering why Disney gave up Ghost in the Shell to Paramount, and whether or not it was a trade of some kind. That reminded me that Paramount and LucasFilm share the Indiana Jones series and they are discussing doing another movie in that franchise. I think GitS isn't a big enough property to trade for Indiana Jones, but maybe we should be on the lookout for other Disney and Paramount deals. What say you?

Batman v Superman: Another Villain Revealed?

We’ve got lots of juicy bits from the blockbuster DC movie “Batman v Super: Dawn of Justice. We had a few dramtic tv spots drop on Sunday, revealing both Superman and Batman’s headspace as to why they are going to war on each other, Snyder talks about why he’s using Doomsday, and Empire Magazine has released all new pictures that have revealed a heavy spoiler for an upcoming villain. We will give you a “spoiler” hand signal at the beginning and end of our reveal segment.     (ray use this image for main, then here is the spoiler)

Planet Hulk arrives in Thor:Ragnarok!

We’ve been hearing quite a bit about the upcoming Thor:Ragnarok film, with Cate Blanchett playing Hela, the film being described as a buddy road trip film between Banner and Thor, Director Taika Waititi says the film’s humor will have a new fresh style, and now we have this. from geek.com comes story points of Thor being banished to gladiator type planet, where he must fight his way up to the current champion, The Hulk! This new green giant has been able to stop from returning to Banner, but now has both personalities combined. What do you think of this info?

Kevin Smith talks about a cut interview with Geoff Johns!

If you saw last weeks special that aired with Kevin Smith and Geoff Johns, where they talked about Justice League, Wonder Woman, and Suicide Squad, you know it was quite an event! Well, Kevin dropped this bomb yesterday “We did a piece where we talked about how DC is known for nothing if not a multiverse,' so at which point I was like [to Johns], 'Could they fucking crossover?' And he was like, 'Ahh.' So doors are being left open and stuff like that."

Smith explained, "Think about this, you can have Ezra Miller be the Flash and you could also have Grant be the Flash, because there’s a multiverse at work." What do you think about the  Multiverse being introduced in the movies, since they already have them in the DC TV universe.

Deadpool goes off, new tv spots highlight characters.

Deadpool is going into overdrive as we quickly appoach the release date of Feb.12th, we have a lot of new tv spots highlighting Weasel, Blind Al, and Colossus, with quick shots of the X Mansion and Blackbird. Deadpool talked to the Australians for Australia Day, and he took over Fandango’s Twitter Account! The viral madness continues!

Collider Movie Talk - Batman V Superman Image Suggests Darkseid

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Tuesday January 26th 2016) we discuss the following:

MAIN TOPICS

For decades now fans of the original Arnold Schwarzenegger classic CONAN THE BARBARIAN have been patiently waiting for a third installment of the franchise (not counting the Jason Mamoa reboot from a few years ago). At a recent event in the UK, Arnold himself gave an update on the project assuring his fans that it is indeed still on the way. He said the following: “Conan the Conqueror, where I’m sitting on the throne for years and years – decades, and then all of the sudden, the time comes when they want to overthrow me. So that story WILL be told and that movie WILL be done.” The comments are consistent with what producer Frederick Malmberg recently said as well: “Yes, Chris Morgan (the screenwriter and I are meeting with directors at this moment. Interest is high, many are fans of Conan but we are not rushing. We have a great script and now we need the right director for the job.”

We’ve know for some time that a sequel to the original sci fi classic BLADE RUNNER was in development with Ryan Gosling joining original star Harrison Ford, but now it looks like we actually have a production start date. According to reports the new BLADE RUNNER film will start shooting in July. The film is being helmed by SICARIO and PRISONERS director Denis Villeneuve and will have Roger Deakins serve as cinematographer.

BUY OR SELL

Disney has been developing a live action adaptation of GHOST IN THE SHELL for some time with Scarlett Johansson in the lead role and a March 31st 2017 release date. However, reports have now come out that Disney has dropped the project altogether and Paramount Studios will now be producing the film. According to the story in variety, all the relevant details are remaining the same with Snow White and the Huntsman helmer Rupert Sanders directing the movie and the March 31st 2017 release date staying in tact.

New images from the upcoming issue of EMPIRE Magazine have surfaced online giving us a few new looks at the upcoming BATMAN V SUPERMAN. One image in particular has the fan community buzzing with Batman looking out over a landscape of destruction and what appears to be the Omega symbol, pointing to the DC villain Darkseid.

OPENING THIS WEEK (brought to you buy AMC Theatres)

The first film we’re looking at this week is the new Disney film THE FINEST HOURS based on a true story. On Feb. 18, 1952, a massive storm splits the SS Pendleton in two, trapping more than 30 sailors inside the tanker's sinking stern. Engineer Ray Sybert bravely takes charge to organize a strategy for his fellow survivors. As word of the disaster reaches the Coast Guard in Chatham, Mass., Chief Warrant Officer Daniel Cluff orders a daring rescue mission. Despite the ferocious weather, Coast Guard officer Bernie Webber takes three men on a lifeboat to try and save the crew against seemingly impossible odds.

MAIL BAG

Ben Cartwright writes: Hi collider, big fan of the show, yourselves along with other critics have slated The 5th Wave, another teen novel film that has failed to be a hit. Some of my personal favourite novels have all had busts and failed to make sequels (I am number 4, Eragon etc) and those which have got sequels have been disappointing (Divergent and The Maze Runner). My question is, with hunger games and twilight aside, why do you think it is so hard for companies to produce a good version of these much loved novels? Thanks and keep bringing the filthy!

Colin Martinez writes: Hey guys, love the show. I know soccer isn't the biggest sport in America, but its popularity is definitely rising. So, what do you guys think of a movie about the business and politics between the two biggest clubs in the world, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. There is a lot of hate between the fans of both clubs, and there have been scandals, legal problems, and a couple of players who have played for both clubs who have gone on to be not the most liked people on the planet. Also don't forget that the only sports team more valuable than Real Madrid are the Cowboys. would love to hear your thoughts and keep up the amazing work.

Ryan Strasser writes: Hello Collider! I was curious what your thoughts were on the absence of any Shazam movie news in the Dawn of the Justice League special last week. Should we have any worries or change of mind about it since it was not mentioned in a special where Warner Brothers was showcasing all their future movies? Thanks and keep up the great work!

Collider Movie Talk - New Batman V Superman Spots, Academy Awards Changes

On this installment of Collider Movie Talk (Monday January 25th 2016) we discuss the following issues:

MAIN TOPICS

It’s Monday which means it’s time for our weekend Box Office report brought to you by our friends at AMC Theatres. Coming in at #1 is the Leonardo DiCaprio film THE REVENANT, climbing up from the #2 position last week making $16 million dollars. Coming in at #2 is STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS with $14.25 million, up one spot from its #3 finish last week. In 3rd position is last week’s #1 film RIDE ALONG 2 making an additional $12.9 million. In 4th is the new Zac Efron/Robert De Niro film DIRTY GRANDPA making $11.5 million, and rounding out the top 5 is the new horror film THE BOY making $11.26 million on just a $10 million dollar budget.

Last night the Producers Guild Of America held its annual awards ceremony in Los Angeles and surprised many people by naming THE BIG SHORT as their outstanding produced feature film of the year. The award was accepted by the film’s producers Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner. The PGA Awards is considered by many industry experts to be a major indicator as to what could win the Oscar.

BUY OR SELL

Well speaking of the Oscars, the Academy has just announced sweeping changes in its membership process with the goal of doubling both its female and minority membership within the next 4 years. The announcement was released by the Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs, herself an African-American woman, which said the following: “Beginning later this year, each new member’s voting status will last 10 years, and will be renewed if that new member has been active in motion pictures during that decade. In addition, members will receive lifetime voting rights after three ten-year terms; or if they have won or been nominated for an Academy Award. We will apply these same standards retroactively to current members. In other words, if a current member has not been active in the last 10 years they can still qualify by meeting the other criteria. Those who do not qualify for active status will be moved to emeritus status. Emeritus members do not pay dues but enjoy all the privileges of membership, except voting. This will not affect voting for this year’s Oscars.

At the same time, the Academy will supplement the traditional process in which current members sponsor new members by launching an ambitious, global campaign to identify and recruit qualified new members who represent greater diversity.

In order to immediately increase diversity on the Board of Governors, the Academy will establish three new governor seats that will be nominated by the President for three-year terms and confirmed by the Board.”

During the NFL playoffs yesterday Warner Bros released new TV spots for the upcoming BATMAN V SUPERMAN, one of which gave us a fuller version of Bruce Wayne’s conversation with Alfred regarding Superman bringing the war to us.

On the heels of the sad passing of David Bowie, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Tri-Star Pictures has had a Labyrinth reboot in the works for a while. According to the report Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman has been brought aboard to supply the screenplay. There is no definitive information if the new project would be a true reboot or some form of sequel.

MAIL BAG

Hussain J.Shishtari writes: Big fan of the show and the entire crew, my question is: Why do tv directors get overshadowed by the show's writers? And the opposite happens in movies, where writers don't get that recognition that film directors get.

Alex Gabel writes: Since Game of Thrones will eventually come to an end, a lot has been said about ending the series with one or more feature length films. Do you like this idea? And if this were to be the case, how well do you think it will perform at the box office given its worldwide success on the small screen?

Jason Martinez writes: Hi everyone my name is Jason! Started watching the show 4 months ago, thanks to running into to a random Jedi Council episode on Youtube. But I'm emailing you today to talk about Doctor Strange and the great potential it has. To me they have a phenomenal cast for the film so far from the cast we know of. But just seems like Marvel didn't get the right director or group of writers for this film. Most have all worked on the same movies that weren't all that good so I was just wondering how y'all felt about this.
