It was big news when Sony and Marvel announced they’d be working out a deal to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And with fans and critics praising the new Spidey played by Tom Holland in Captain America: Civil War, fans are now wondering who will be creatively in control of his solo movie. Leave it to Marvel Head Honcho Kevin Feige to set the record straight, once and for all. Speaking with Hey U Guys at the U.K. premiere of Civil War, Feige confirmed Marvel is in creative control.

Filming is underway on Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant and to mark the occasion, the official Twitter account for the movie tweeted out two images giving fans an idea of what to expect from the Ridley Scott directed prequel/sequel. The first is some unused concept art of the iconic H.R. Giger Alien Creature, with the second showing a patch for the “Covenant” mission, showing that the Weyland Corporation has merged with the Yutani corporation from the previous movies in canon.

According to a report from THR, Richard E. Grant has joined the cast of Hugh Jackman’s last run as Logan in Wolverine 3. The James Mangold helmed sequel will see Grant playing a “villainous mad-scientist type” with no other details being offered. Soon after the report, Deadline dropped news that The Office creator, Stephen Merchant was also added to the film in an especially secret role, with no description or name being listed.

Variety is reporting that Will Ferrell is attached to star as Ronald Reagan in the movie Reagan, based on the Black List script written by Mike Rosolio. The story begins at the start of the ex-president’s second term when he falls into dementia and an ambitious intern is tasked with convincing the commander in chief that he is an actor playing the president in a movie.

Principal photography has begun on Millennium Films' The Hitman’s Bodyguard starring Deadpool’s Ryan Reynolds and Avengers’ Samuel L. Jackson. The action comedy about the world’s top protection agent played by Reynolds and his new client: a notorious hitman played by Jackson, are stuck together and have 24 hours to get from England to The Hague with the only thing standing in their way is a murderous Eastern European dictator played by Gary Oldman.

A new trailer has been released for Approaching the Unknown, the science fiction movie starring Mark Strong as Captain William D. Stanaforth, a brilliant scientist and newly trained astronaut who embarks on an epic 270-day journey to Mars.

Collider Movie Talk - Marvel Issues Statement On Ancient One Casting For Doctor Strange

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (April 27th, 2016) Kristian Harloff, Jon Schnepp and Mark Ellis discuss the following:

-Marvel releases statement defending Ancient One casting in Doctor Strange

-Neill Blomkamp’s Alien sequel to resurrect Newt

-Russo Brothers enlisted John Wick directors to help with Civil War

-J.K. Simmons teases more appearances as Commissioner Gordon

-Turner Classic Movies and Criterion partnering on streaming service

-First trailer release for Oliver Stone’s Snowden

-AMC Rewind

-Mail Bag

When the first trailer for Marvel’s Doctor Strange debuted, most fans were happy and excited to see the Sorcerer Supreme finally realized on screen. Through the cheers and praise however, came an uproar over Tilda Swinton's casting as "The Ancient One" — which some have labeled "whitewashing." In a statement sent to Mashable, a Marvel Studios spokesperson defended the casting.

Now that director Neill Blomkamp is taking on a new Alien movie, he’ll toss out part 3 and Resurrection and start fresh, picking up from where James Cameron’s Aliens left off. To mark “Alien Day” yesterday, Blomkamp answered the fans sharing concept art of what his new, non-dead Newt would look.

In an exclusive interview with the Russo Brothers for Captain America Civil War, our very own Steve Frosty Weintraub sat down with the two directors to talk all things Civil War when it was revealed that the Brothers enlisted help from another directing duo, John Wick directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch. The Russo’s revealed to Frosty they wanted some help directing some action sequences and 2nd unit material.

BUY OR SELL

Out promoting his next movie The Meddler, J.K. Simmons sat down for a lengthy video interview with DP/30 to discuss the new film when the subject of Justice League and his part as Commissioner Gordon came up. The actor admitted his role in the film isn’t very big, at least for this first part of the Justice League.

Film buffs will soon have a new viewing option for contemporary and classic movies with the start of a streaming service called FilmStruck this fall. Developed by Turner Classic Movies in partnership with Criterion Collection, the new subscription-based service will feature hundreds of films from independent and major Hollywood studios.

The first full-length trailer for Oliver Stone’s long-awaited biographical thriller Snowden has finally arrived. The film tells the story of Edward Snowden played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who is a gifted son of a family steeped in military service who enlists in the Army Reserve as a Special Forces candidate, working for the Central Intelligence Agency.

Collider Movie Talk - Nathan Fillion To Cameo In Guardians Of The Galaxy 2?

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (April 26th, 2016) Mark Ellis, Jon Schnepp and Kristian Harloff discuss the following:

-Nathan Fillion’s role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 revealed?

-Disney dates full slate of live action and fairy tale movies

-Empire Magazine covers released for Ghostbusters

-Goosebumps sequel in development

-Borderland adaptation adds writer

-Opening this week – Keanu

-Sausage Party’s chances for a best animated movie Oscar nomination

-Status of Louis CK’s I’m a Cop

Nathan Fillion and James Gunn go way back after working together on Slither and Gunn’s first superhero movie – Super. So it’s no surprise now to learn that Fillian will appear again in Gunn’s follow up to Guardians of the Galaxy. Sort of. Photos from the Atlanta set reveal not only an Earthbound sequence being shot, but a movie theatre with posters for the Simon Williams Film Festival. Fans will recognize the name of Williams as the alter-ego of Marvel’s Wonder Man.

After the smashing success of The Jungle Book and the live action Cinderella surpassing expectations, Disney’s winning game of live action remakes and adaptations will continue moving forward, far into the future. In an announcement yesterday, Disney claimed five new dates to release three new “untitled” fairy tale movies along with two live action movies that are also untitled. The five movies will most likely match up with some previously announced movies in development.

BUY OR SELL

Empire Magazine is moving on from their superhero coverage to busting some ghosts. The Ghostbusters remake directed by Paul Feig is currently featured on the cover of the upcoming issues, featuring the all female cast with a familiar ghost taking center stage, Slimer. Along with the covers, a trio of banners were also released showing characters Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Patty Jones, accompanied by what appears to be some of their catch phrases.

THR is reporting that Sony is in the process of closing deals with director Rob Letterman and writer Darren Lemke to return for another round of thrills and chills in a sequel to Goosebumps. No word just yet on whether Jack Black will return as author RL Stine, though as of now, reps are meeting with the studio and the plan will be for Black to return.

From a report in THR, Lionsgate is moving forward with its adaptation of the video game property Borderlands, hiring Section 6 writer Aaron Berg to pen the script. The project, based on Gearbox Software’s popular first-person shooter game that launched in 2009, sees a story set on a planet called Pandora, a frontier land that's been abandoned by a mega-corporation. Arad Productions, run by Avi Arad and his son Ari Arad, is producing the film.

Collider TV Talk - Game of Thrones Season 6 Premiere Thoughts, Walking Dead Spoiler Casting?
On this episode of Collider TV Talk (April 25th, 2016) Josh Macuga, David Griffin, Sinéad de Vries, Sasha Perl-Raver and Dennis Tzeng discuss the following:

-Season 6 premiere of Game of Thrones

-Steven Yeun has been cast in Okja

-Mel Gibson to direct series adaptation of The Barbary Coast

-Baz Luhrman talks upcoming Netflix series The Get Down

-Superhero rundown

-Highlights and Lowlights

-Pilot review: The Night Manager

-And more…

Last night we finally rejoined the battle for the Iron Throne when Game of Thrones season 6 premiered on HBO, HBOGO and your local Westeros Sports Bar. The season premiere shed a lot of blood, saw two different naked bodies of the same person and of course, included graphic monologues about decomposing bodies.

The Walking Dead season 6 finale left us all guessing who’s blood ran down the camera lens. In the wake of the non-spoiling season finale, Steven Yeun has been cast in Okja, a movie being produced by Plan B, for Netflix, which coincidentally shoots at the same time as The Walking Dead.

According to Deadline, Mel Gibson, apparently a man on the mend, is making his way back into Hollywood’s good graces, being tapped to direct the TV Series adaptation of The Barbary Coast starring Kate Hudson and Kurt Russell.

At a Q&A at the Tribeca Film Festival, Baz Luhrman discussed his upcoming Netflix series The Get Down, teasing it as the pre-history of hip-hop set in the Bronx in the late 1970’s. With help from legendary artists like Nas and Grandmaster Flash and Luhrman’s passion for music, the director said he treated the set and his directing style as more of an MC or DJ.

SUPERHERO RUNDOWN

Syfy is in the process of ordering the pilot for David Goyer’s Krypton. The series will explore the House of El, two generations before the birth of the Superman we’re familiar with. The project has seen its fair share of rewrites and development, but with Sleepy Hollow‘s Damian Kindler coming on board as EP and showrunner it looks like a green-light for the green planet.

In this week’s Iron Fist Casting news, Tom Pelphrey of Banshee fame and 90210’s Jessica Stroup will play Ward and Joy Meachum, the son and daughter of Harold Meachum and the driving force behind the Rand Enterprise conglomerate that was built in the absence of Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist.

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (April 25th, 2016) Mark Ellis, Jon Schnepp and Dennis Tzeng discuss the following:

-Box Office report

-Final trailer for X-Men Apocalypse w/)

-Inhumans pulled from Marvel schedule

-Sigourney Weaver talks Aliens sequel

-New characters rumored for DCEU’s The Flash

-Daddy’s Home sequel in development

-Mail Bag

It’s Monday which means its time for the weekend box office report brought to you by our friends at AMC theatres. Disney’s bear hug at the box office saw The Jungle Book dominating a second straight weekend with $60.8 million dollars and the No 1 spot. The movie declined only 41% from its opening weekend and left Universal’s The Huntsman: Winter’s War far behind. The debut, a prequel to Snow White and the Huntman only took in $20 million for the No 2 spot. Barber Shop: The Next Cut took in $10.8 million for the No 3 spot, with Disney also taking the No 4 spot with Zootopia at $6.6 million dollars. The Boss comes in at No 5 with $6 million.

20th Century Fox has released final trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse trailer showing a lot more of what we can expect from the May 27th release, including conformation that Wolverine is in fact, in the movie as many reports have suggested.

According to the Wrap, Disney has removed Marvel’s Inhumans from its release schedule that was once slated for July 12, 2019. There had been a number of rumors of such a move, with the latest coming off of statements Kevin Feige has been making during the press rounds of Captain America Civil War.

BUY OR SELL

Ridley Scott’s Alien Covenant begins filming soon in order to meet the release date set at August 4th, 2017, but many fans are wondering when we can expect District 9 director Neill Blomkamp’s Alien “sequel” that was initially planned for release in 2017. The movie would bring back Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley, ignoring the other sequels in the franchise, and taking place after James Cameron’s first sequel, Aliens.

With Suicide Squad scheduled for theaters later this year and filming is underway on Justice League: Part One, next comes news about the scarlet speedster aka The Flash. According to Heroic Hollywood, a casting search has already begun for the DCEU’s movie that features Ezra Miller.

Deadline reports that Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg are set to reprise their roles as the mismatched step-dad and dad, respectively, in a sequel to Daddy’s Home. Plot details on the sequel are currently under wraps with Sean Anders and John Morris also returning to write the script with Anders back to direct.

As filming continues on the Baywatch movie adaptation starring The Rock and Zac Effron, it looks like they’ve finally nailed down a commitment from the most popular Baywatch alum next to David Hasselhoff - Pamela Anderson. The actress is officially on board with Dwayne Johnson making the announcement via his Instagram account.

Collider Movie Talk - Michael Keaton No Longer Part Of Spider-Man Homecoming

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (April 22nd, 2016) Dennis Tzeng, Kristian Harloff, Clarke Wolfe, discuss the following:

-Michael Keaton drops out of Spider-Man Homecoming

-Emilia Clarke says she will not play Sarah Connor again in Terminator

-Sherlock Holmes 3 might shoot later this year

-Alfonso Cuaron joins WB’s Jungle Book Origins as consultant

-Trailer for The Founder drops

-Hasbro creates shared universe writers room

-Box Office Predictions

-Mail Bag

Just as it was announced that Robert Downey Jr. would be joining Tom Holland in Spider-Man Homecoming, Deadline dropped the news that Michael Keaton would no longer be a part of the movie. The actor was announced last week as in discussions to play the villain in the movie, with many reports speculating that it would be as Vulture, one of Spider-Man’s arch enemies. The report gave no reason as to why Keaton left.

Fans hoping to see Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke reprise the role of Sarah Connor moving forward after last year's Terminator Genisys, prepare to be disappointed. In a short interview with Comingsoon.net, Clarke was asked about reprising her role in future Terminator movies and her answer was short and to the point: "No. Can I say that? It's okay. No. Uh-uh. But I have some very different roles coming up."

BUY OR SELL

A third movie in the Sherlock Holmes series from director Guy Ritchie has been in development a long time, with the three main players made up of Ritchie, Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law all saying they would return once they come up with a story worth telling. During an interview with the Shortlist, Robert Downey Jr. revealed that movement is happening on Sherlock Holmes 3 at this very moment.

It appears that Warner Bros. is a little worried about the box office success of Disney’s Jungle Book so they’ve turned to one of their Oscar winning directors to come in for some help. THR is reporting that Gravity director Alfonso Cuaron has now joined The Jungle Book as a “consultant,” with the article explaining that it’s “a Hollywood term that encompasses a lot of vague tasks from assisting in directing to even post-production work.”

The Weinstein Company has released the first The Founder trailer starring Michael Keaton as Ray Kroc Kroc the savvy businessman who stole the idea for McDonald’s and made his fortune on it. Directed by The Blind Side and Saving Mr. Banks helmer John Lee Hancock, the film stars Michael Keaton as Ray along with Nick Offerman, Linda Cardellini, Laura Dern, BJ Novak, and John Caroll Lynch and opens in theaters on August 5th.

Last year, Paramount created a writer’s room to create a shared universe of Transformers movies, led by Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman. Now, the studio is creating the same process for a different franchise: the Hasbro Cinematic Universe. According to a report from THR, the new group of writers will create a series of interconnected films based on properties such as a rebooted G.I. Joe movie, Micronauts, Visionaries, and M.A.S.K..

Collider Jedi Council - Special Guests Ashley Eckstein (Ahsoka Tano) and James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan Kenobi)
Today is April 21st, 2016 and it’s another Collider Jedi Council hosted by Kristian Harloff, Mark Ellis and Tiffany Smith; with very special guests James Arnold Taylor and Ashley Ekcstein!

J.J. Abrams Talks Rey’s Parents in Force Awakens

What better way to celebrate Star Wars and the news for all the movies out there than by having Ahsoka and Obi-Wan on the show? Ashley Eckstein and James Arnold Taylor, the voice actors from Star Wars The Clone Wars and Rebels join the council and up first, all the speculation surrounding the parentage of Rey’s parents! Pretty nice having two Jedi on the panel to weigh in with their own wisdom.

Set Pics and Videos from Episode VIII

Next, the panel discuss the awesome set photos that came from the Princes,’ William and Harry visit to Pinewood studios in London. The Royal Crew were able to play with lightsabers, take pictures with Wookiees and sit in some spaceships with Luke Skywalker watching over. And because of the visit, a familiar ship was seen in the pics, that being the classic A-wing last seen in Return of the Jedi!

Oscar Isaac Talks Episode VIII as an Independent Movie

A while back it was reported that Lawrence Kasdan, writer of The Force Awakens, said that Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII will be like no other Star Wars movie ever. And because of that, fans are excited – including cast members like Oscar Isaac, who talked briefly about the shoot, comparing Johnson’s Star Wars movie to the likes of an independent movie. The panel look at these statements and speculate that the movie is most likely taking some risks like independent movies tend to do.

Details Revealed for Rey and Luke’s Costumes in Episode VIII

From Makingstarwars.net comes a report about the costumes that are reportedly being worn by Daisy Ridley’s Rey and Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker. Though it can be considered spoiler-ish, the panel do talk a bit about the proposed designs, adding more fuel to their burning desire to see what Johnson’s Star Wars movie has to offer.

Noah Segan Rumored for Episode VIII

Like DeNiro to Scorsese, Noah Segan has been in every movie Rian Johnson has ever made with Birth Movies Death reporting that the actor is headed to Pinewood for unknown reasons. Hint, to shoot something in Episode VIII. Duh. What part he is playing is a whole other story because, naturally, no one knows other than the actor and crew members. Or maybe, he’s just visiting his buddy on set.

Warwick Davis to Host Star Wars Celebration 2016

News from the people at Lucasfilm reveals that Willow and Wicket actor Warwick Davis will host the awesome celebration for the fans, the 2016 Star Wars Celebration convention! The convention this time will be held in Europe in the middle of July and the panel wonder just how many announcements will be made either about Rogue One, Episode VIII and Star Wars Rebels, Season 3.

Norman Reedus Wants to Play a Stormtrooper

When fans found out that Daniel Craig portrayed a stormtrooper in Force Awakens, it un-officially opened the door for celebrities who also want to get in on the action. And sure enough, Norman Reedus now claims he wants to be a stormtrooper as well. With his part in The Walking Dead questionable now after that season finale, could he maybe looking for work as a stormtrooper?

What’s the Deal with Canon?

Collider Movie Talk - Jason Bourne Teaser Trailer, Thanos Screen Time In Infinity War

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (April 21st, 2016) Kristian Harloff, Whitney Moore, and John Rocha, discuss the following:

-New Jason Bourne trailer released

-Avengers Infinity War screenwriters tease huge role for Thanos

-Golden Globes change rules for comedy/musical

-Blade Runner 2 moves release date

-Three’s Company movie in development

-New The Infiltrator trailer starring Bryan Cranston

-Opening this week

-Mail Bag

The first full trailer for Jason Bourne kicked its way online this morning, finally showing us Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne, back in action. The movie sees the return of Damon and his director Paul Greengrass, who both took a movie off after the Bourne Ultimatum while Universal tried the Bourne Legacy. Julia Stiles also reprises her role in the series alongside newcomers Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel and Tommy Lee Jones. Jason Bourne arrives in theaters July 29, 2016.

As Captain America: Civil War readies its debut in just about 2 weeks, Marvel fans are already looking ahead to the massive culmination of Phase Three that will see a two part Avengers movie in Infinity War, finally introducing the biggest baddie of them all Thanos. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have promised the scale will be much larger than previous films, and that’s because of the grand entrance of Thanos. But how much will we see of the villain, played by Josh Brolin? The screenwriters of the movie, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have promised Thanos will be getting plenty of screen time.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association yesterday announced a couple of rule changes for their next awards, with one in particular appearing to be the direct result of the backlash aimed at this year’s winner for Best Comedy or Musical in The Martian. In an article posted by EW, the new HFPA guidelines says that all dramas with comedic overtones should be entered as dramas.”

Back a couple months it was reported that Blade Runner 2 was getting the questionable release date of January 12, 2018 to debut the long awaited sequel that would see the return of Harrison Ford’s Rick Deckard along with a new costar in Ryan Gosling. With January deemed the dumping ground for movies, it seemed like Blade Runner 2 would be buried before it even got a chance to find its audience. But it looks like Alcon Entertainment has remedied that problem announcing yesterday that it will move the release date to a more, audience friendly, October 6, 2017.

THR is reporting that New Line is currently in negotiations to pick up the rights to the 70s/80s TV sitcom Three’s Company with He’s Just Not That Into You screenwriters Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein writing up the adaptation. The updated western based on Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai is about a group of desperate townspeople who employ the protection from seven outlaws, stars Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, and Vincent D’Onofrio. The movie is directed by Antoine Fuqua and comes to theatres September 23rd.

With filming now underway, Justice League is continuing to add to their already impressive list of supporting actors with a new addition to the cast announced via THR. Willem Dafoe is the latest actor to join, and the second from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies; the first being J.K. Simmons who will be playing Commissioner Gordon. THR’s report says his part is being kept under lock and key, only to say that he is playing a “good guy” in the movie.

Though Avengers Age of Ultron was a box office smash, it didn’t quite hit the mark with fans especially, as the original Avengers did. A fact that director Joss Whedon is very aware of. At a Q&A with Mark Ruffalo at the Tribeca Film Festival, Whedon addressed the perception of Age of Ultron and his feelings on it from a report via Vulture.

A24, the studio behind Room, The Witch and upcoming Green Room is behind the adaptation which is described as a fun, immersive look at the network’s rise through testimonials and celebratory accounts of a one-of-a-kind cultural moment.

The latest entry in the Fast & Furious franchise, Furious 8, is currently filming with new director, Straight Outta Compton’s, F Gary Gray behind the camera. To get the fans excited, Vin Diesel released the newest poster on his Facebook page that utilizes a fitting tag line: New Roads Ahead. The movie will bring back the original cast with Charlize Theron joining them as the new villain.

The Weinstein Company has released a new trailer for their upcoming sports drama Hands of Stone, which stars Robert De Niro and Edgar Ramirez as the trainer/fighter duo of Ray Arcel and Roberto Duran and R&B star Usher as boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard. Duran’s bouts with Leonard drew worldwide attention after he beat Leonard in the first fight but gave up in the eighth round of the second fight, telling the ref ‘No Mas.’
