-Shia LaBeouf cast as John McEnroe in bio-pic

-Terry Gilliam’s delayed Don Quixote back on with Adam Driver

-Rob Liefeld made sure Cable was saved for Deadpool 2

With its classic movie monster’s universe already in motion, Universal is now ready to develop new movies based on the creator of one of its most popular franchises. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson together with Zodiac and Amazing Spider-Man 2 writer James Vanderbilt have closed a deal with Universal to produce a collective universe of films based on the bestselling novels of Robert Ludlum, who is best known for creating the Jason Bourne series that the studio has already turned into a massive movie franchise. The first feature being developed in the new Ludlum adventure “The Janson Directive” with The Rock starring.

Transformers and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull star Shia LaBeouf will portray tennis legend John McEnroe in the upcoming biopic, Borg/McEnroe. The movie will tell the story of the intense rivalry between McEnroe and his Swedish opponent, Bjorn Borg, who faced off 14 times in the 1970s and ’80s, splitting the wins with 7 each. The deal was announced at the Cannes Film Festival, where LaBeouf is supporting his American Honey, directed by Andrea Arnold.

BUY OR SELL

Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey will portray the Gunslinger and the Man in Black respectively in director Nikolaj Arcel’s The Dark Tower, which recently began principle photography. Fans have been long waiting for this adaptation which will be based primarily on the first novel, The Gunslinger, in which the title hero and the mysterious the Man in Black, play a cat-and-mouse game as they head to the mystical tower at the center of Mid-World, the fantastical world in which they live. During an interview on the EW podcast Stephen King spoke about the adaptation of the book promising the film will begin as the book does saying,

Variety reports that Brasil director Terry Gilliam has set a shooting date in October for his long in development, long delayed Don Quixote movie. The new film will star Adam Driver as a young filmmaker who returns to an isolated village where he once shot a disastrous adaptation of Don Quixote, only to find the aftermath of the production still plaguing him. Michael Palin will also star as an older member of the village community who believes himself to be Don Quixote, with Olga Kurylenko in a mysterious role, playing the wife of the boss to Driver’s character. .

Fans who stuck around for the end credits scene of Deadpool were treated to a clever parody of an 80’s John Hughes’ movie, Instead of it being just a gag without a payoff, this credits scene promised the big screen introduction of a Marvel Comics character for Deadpool 2, namely Cable. Creator of Deadpool himself Rob Liefeld recently spoke to CinemaBlend revealing that the time traveler with the bionic arm was discussed as appearing in Deadpool’s origin story. But the Merc with a Mouth’s creator advised against it.

The first trailer for Personal Shopper has landed online just following the film’s world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. Kristen Stewart leads the thriller in a reunion with her Clouds of Sils Maria director Olivier Assayas. In Personal Shopper, Stewart plays an American celebrity fashion assistant and personal shopper who attempts to communicate with the ghost of her recently deceased twin brother.

Collider Heroes - Road To X-Men Apocalypse

Welcome to the road to X-Men: Apocalypse, a Collider Heroes Special hosted by Jon Schnepp; with our special panel Amy Dallen and Robert Meyer Burnett.

X-Men: Apocalypse opens on May 27th so we thought we’d go through the feature films that have brought us to this point. Let’s get into the way-back machine and exit in the year 2000. July 14th brought us the very first film simply titled X-men.

X2: X-Men United came out May 2, 2003, and we had a bigger world to play in, after the success of the first film. Bryan Singer returned with a sure hand in directing this second film, expanding the storylines of Wolverine and his brutal origin by the hands of Stryker.

May 26, 2006 saw the release of X-Men The Last Stand, this one without Bryan Singer, who left to go direct Superman Returns. This film is directed by Brett Rattner, with a script by Simon Kinberg and Zak Penn. This third installment had a cure as the central story, with a division and battle once more between Professor x and Magneto, as they fight to stop this cure from wiping them out.

May 1st, 2009 saw X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the first solo film for Hugh Jackman as this character, featuring the century spanning life of Logan and his brother Sabretooth aka Victor Creed played by Liev Schriber. We see Logan working with Team X, with Wade Wilson, in his early career with Stryker, and then he leaves, and has his own life until Victor shows up to ruin it all. We then got lots of strange inconsistent scenes with Gambit, Blob, and a Deadpool with his mouth sewn shut. WTF?

May 25th, 2011 was the release date of X-Men: First Class. This reboot/prequel to the first three X-Men films really helped reestablish the X-Men brand, by throwing them back into the sixties, and recasting the main duo of Prof X and Magneto with James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, with Mystique played by Jennifer Lawrence.

The Wolverine came out on July 26th, 2013, and followed Logan to Japan as he tried to escape from his tormented nightmares involving the ghost of Jean Grey. Wolverine accepts the offer from a man he saved during WW2, and now can give Logan what he desires, death by the destruction of his healing gene. Things don’t go as planed and ends up with Wolverine not fighting a group of Ninjas, and eventually battling the Silver Samurai.

X-Men: Days of Future Past opened May 23rd, 2014 was the return to greatness, with Bryan Singer making an epic that combined his original cast with the new First Class cast. The main cast travels back and forth from the horrible future to the 1970s in an effort to save all of mutantkind. This movie had it all, both sets of X-Men, time travel and the ability to fix giant mistakes that happened in the previous movies, as well as getting the Setinels properly in the X-universe.
