-Suicide Squad adds one more DC Comics character (Spoilers)

-Chris Evans to join Lionsgate adaptation of Jekyll

-The Rocketeer sequel in the works at Disney

-Meryl Streep joins Emily Blunt in Mary Poppins sequel

-Michael Keaton says Beetlejuice 2 unlikely

-Mail Bag

Massive spoiler alerts on the way for Suicide Squad, so for everyone not wanting to know anymore details about the August 5th release, mute your computers or skip ahead. We’ll be throwing up the Spoiler Alert graphic now.

While Universal is conjuring up their Monster Shared Universe, Lionsgate is also getting into the game with a feature film adaptation of the BBC One series Jekyll. Now, they’ve set their sights on Captain America himself, Chris Evans; who is eyeing the lead role as the brilliant doctor with a murderous split personality. Deadline reports the movie will be based on the Steven Moffatt-penned TV mini-series of the same name.

BUY OR SELL

Back in 2012, just a couple of months before Disney purchased Lucasfilm for all the money in the world, the studio set its sights on a different kind of franchise reboot: The Rocketeer. Plans are back in motion with THR reporting that a Rocketeer sequel is in the works with Disney hiring Max Winkler and Matt Spicer to pen the script called The Rocketeers. The film is envisioned as a “sequel-reboot” with a “modern-day twist,” setting a new hero as the Rocketeer, led by a black female character.

The sequel for Mary Poppins - Mary Poppins Returns – is loading up with some major star power. In addition to Emily Blunt playing the central caretaker with co-star and Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, Variety now reports that direcftor Rob Marshall and Blunt will reteam with their Into the Woods star Meryl Streep. According to the report, Streep is said to play the role of Poppins’ cousin, Topsy, who wasn’t in the original 1964 adaptation.

One of the most rumored and longest discussed sequels in recent memories has to be for Beetlejuice 2. As time has gone on, and the major players from the movie get more and more busy, the chances of the movie actually happening seems unlikely. And now, thanks to some comments made by original Beetlejuice star Michael Keaton, it’s sounding even more improbable.

Universal Pictures and Legendary have released the first trailer for The Great Wall. Directed by Hero and House of Flying Daggers director Zhang Yimou, the film stars Matt Damon and tells the story behind why the Great Wall of China was built in the first place.

Han Solo or Obi Wan Trilogy Movies A Better Idea? - Collider Jedi Council
Today is July 28th, 2016 and it’s another Collider Jedi Council hosted by Kristian Harloff, with Tiffany Smith, Mark Ellis and Mark Reilly.

Jedi Council is packed with a ton of news today and the most important of all the news is the report of a possible 'Young Han Solo' trilogy. The fact that Disney might be looking at doing three movies instead of one leads the Council into a lively debate on the possibility with many wanting more original (read different) stories like an Old Republic or even an Obi-Wan movie.

Then it's a look at all the rest of the news making waves, including seeing Han Solo or Hayden Christensen in 'Rogue One,' Mads Mikkelsen talking the reshoots and much more.

Included are the segments 'What's the Deal with Canon' and 'A Short Time Ago, In a Tweet Far, Far Away…' where we talk all things outside of the movies and answer the fans questions on all things Star Wars!

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (July 28, 2016) Kristian Harloff, Jon Schnepp, Dan Casey, Natasha Martinez discuss the following:

-Kevin Feige says Spider-Man sequels could follow Harry Potter format

-Baby Groot’s memory explained for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2

-Lights Out 2 a go at New Line Cinema

-First trailer released for M Night Shyamalan’ Split

-Second trailer released for The Accountant starring Ben Affleck

-First trailer released for Hacksaw Ridge directed by Mel Gibson

-Opening this week (Brought to you by AMC Theatres)

-Mail Bag

Earlier this year we were introduced to the new Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War. The decision to reboot the web-slinger once again, came about as a result of an unprecedented collaboration with Marvel Studios that has Marvel taking the creative lead on the new Spider-Man movies distributed by Sony.

One of the bigger revelations at Comic-Con 2016 was during the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 presentation at the Marvel panel. Fans there were officially introduced to a smaller version of Groot, now affectionately known as “Baby Groot.” This led to a lot of questions from the fans, particularly, does this mean Groot still has his memories?

Deadline is reporting that New Line Cinema has quickly ordered a sequel to Lights Out, the 5 million dollar budgeted horror movie produced by James Wan that pulled in over 21 million dollars its opening weekend.

BUY OR SELL

Universal has released the first trailer for Split, the latest film from writer/director M. Night Shyamalan, which puts Shyamalan squarely back into his psychological thriller mode.

The new trailer for Gavin O’Connor’s The Accountant, starring Ben Affleck and Anna Kendrick has been released, giving us a better look at both the young and adult versions of the title character, Christian Wolff.

Lionsgate has unveiled the very first trailer for director Mel Gibson‘s World War II drama Hacksaw Ridge, which marks Gibson’s first directorial effort since 2006’s Apocalypto.

Joker Is Jason Todd Fan Theory Debunked By Suicide Squad Director - Collider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (July 27, 2016) Kristian Harloff, Jon Schnepp, Mark Ellis and Ashley Mova discuss the following:

-David Ayer shoots down Joker fan theory for Suicide Squad

-First plot details revealed for Black Panther

-Jessica Chastain to join Jake Gyllenhaal in The Division video game adaptation

-Joss Whedon would return to Marvel for a solo Black Widow movie

-Bad Santa 2 teaser revealed

-New trailer released for Office Christmas Party starring Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston and TJ Miller

-AMC Rewind

-Mail Bag

A favorite fan theory regarding the Joker and his true identity has never gone away with a lot of DC fans. During the development and production period of Suicide Squad, speculation ran rampant about what the movie would and wouldn’t include, and how it might connect to the overall DC Extended Universe. As the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice inched closer, one theory that wouldn’t die hinged on the true identity of Jared Leto’s Joker.

Ryan Coogler didn’t reveal all that much about his latest movie, Black Panther, while he was on stage for Marvel’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con. However, newly cast Lupita Nyong’o did reveal the first plot details while making the rounds on the press line after the panel.

Ubisoft continues putting together a feature film adaptation of their popular The Division series of video games, which began by enlisting Jake Gyllenhaal to star and produce. Now, add one more Oscar nominee to the line-up. According to a report from THR, Jessica Chastain is in talks to co-star opposite Gyllenhaal in the adaptation, which is based on Ubisoft’s fastest-selling game in history.

BUY OR SELL

In the weeks leading up to the release of 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, interviews with Joss Whedon revealed that he was very happy to be getting out of the superhero movie game. During various set visit reports, Whedon was revealed to be exhausted and seemingly beat down by the process of making a $200 million spectacle. Soon after Ultron hit theatres, Whedon was saying that he’d never direct a superhero movie again. But there is one character Whedon says could possibly pull him back into the Marvel fold: Black Widow.

The first Bad Santa 2 teaser has made its way online and looks to not have strayed too far from the original R-rated comedy that captured audiences 13 years ago. Billy Bob Thornton returns as the beloved mall Santa who is the furthest thing from Father Christmas there is.

It must be Christmas in July because another Christmas themed trailer dropped yesterday, this time for Office Christmas Party. Though there looks to be plenty of storylines being followed throughout the comedy from The Switch director’s Will Speck and Josh Gordon, the main focus is on the massive, chaotic holiday party that prompts several seemingly bored workers to lose their ever-loving minds.

The Woods Revealed To Be Blair Witch, Walking Dead & More Comic-Con News - Collider Nightmares
On this week's episode of Collider Nightmares (July 26, 2016) Clarke Wolfe, Perri Nemiroff, Jon Schnepp, Mark Reilly will discuss the following:

-Adam Wingard’s The Woods Revealed to be Blair Witch sequel

-Ti West’s In A Valley of Violence Trailer

-Michael Fassbender calls Alien: Covenant “super scary”

-Stranger Things Producer Hints at Several Season Plan For Netflix Series

-Bates Motel Casts Rihanna in Iconic role

-Fear the Walking Dead Season 2b Trailer

-Discussion: Stephen King’s IT: Can a studio horror film deliver on the iconic novel?

-Twitter questions

Fresh Meat

After months of positive buzz coming from the teaser trailer for director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett’s latest, The Woods, this weekend at San Diego Comic Con it was revealed that the Lionsgate release was actually a sequel to the 1999 – fact checked – independent hit The Blair Witch Project.

Not really a horror film but hailing from writer/ director Ti West, the filmmaker who brought you House of the Devil and The Innkeepers’s latest is In A Valley of Violence, a violent-Western-dark comedy starring Ethan Hawke and John Travolta. Produced by Blumhouse, the film will hit theaters this October and fans have recently been treated to the first trailer.

After Aliens celebrated its 30th anniversary this weekend at Comic Con, fans are growing even more excited for Ridley Scott’s latest, the sequel to Prometheus titled Alien: Covenant. Star Michael Fassbender, who has returned to work with Scott on the sequel, recently previewed the films tone, telling Collider’s own Frosty what fans can expect for the movie, saying, “ It’s much scarier than Prometheus but it’s got the same sort of scope of Prometheus.

What’s In The Box?!:

Stranger Things has become Netflix’s latest phenomenon. While a second season of the fan favorite following the kids of Hawkins, Indiana has not been officially announced as greenlit, The Duffers and their producers have been discussing a follow up to the series like it’s a done deal. Shawn Levy, who directed episodes alongside The Duffers, recently told /Film, “The answer is yes and yes. We definitely are hopeful to go several more seasons.

This week at Comic Con it was announced that Rihanna would be playing the iconic role of Marion Crane, originated by Janet Leigh, in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho on the fifth and final season of Bates Motel.

Trailers were in no short supply this past weekend at Comic Con, and both The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking dead both posted quick looks at their upcoming seasons. While The Walking Dead didn’t show much by way of new footage – not surprising considering the cliffhanger season six ended on earlier this year – Fear The Walking dead painted a pretty clear picture of what was to come on the back half of season two.

Jump Scares:

Earlier this month we saw a first look at Bill Skarsgård as the infamous nightmare creature, Pennywise the clown. In addition to weighing in on the make up, I’d like to put it to the panel: after a series like Strange Things came to Netflix, where by all accounts the creators were given creative freedom to tell their story exactly how they like in addition to True Detective’s Cary Fukunaga’s very public split with New  Line over creative differences, is it at all possible for this movie to live up to audience expectations?

Han Solo Trilogy Planned? Why Guardians 2 Footage Wasn't Released - Collider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (July 26, 2016) Mark Ellis, Kristian Harloff, Jon Schnepp, and Ashley Mova discuss the following:

-Rumored Young Han Solo trilogy in the works

-Charlie Hunnam won’t return for Pacific Rim 2

-Michael Fassbender says Alien: Covenant is scarier than Prometheus

-James Gunn talks reasons why Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 Comic Con footage won’t be released yet

-New Ben Hur trailer released

-First teaser released for Trainspotting 2

-Opening this week (Brought to you by AMC Theatres)

-Mail Bag

We know that Lucasfilm is developing a new trilogy of core films in the Star Wars saga, but long-term plans for the standalone anthology films have always remained a mystery; especially for the Young Han Solo movie. Alden Ehrenreich, of course, was recently revealed to portray young Han Solo in the second Star Wars Story from Phil Lord and Chris Miller and now, according to The New York Daily News, the studio wants to capitalize on the hype surrounding the character and is developing plans for three Han Solo films in total.

When news broke that John Boyega would lead Pacific Rim 2, many fans wondered why no other cast members had been confirmed, especially those from the first movie. While we’ll have to wait and see if anyone from the 2013 release is coming back for more, we now know at least one actor who won’t be reprising his role, Charlie Hunnam. While talking to Yahoo! Movies at Comic-Con, Hunnam confirmed that he will not be returning as Raleigh Beckett.

BUY OR SELL

After Prometheus, we know that Alien: Covenant will feature a brand new cast with Michael Fassbender serving as a bridge between the two movies, reprising his role as David, the sole survivor of Prometheus whom a new exploration crew stumble upon when they arrive on the seemingly deserted planet.

Comic-Con 2016 has come and gone and fans are still talking about the Marvel panel. Marvel Studios regularly brings out their A-game for the weekend and this year was no different but they didn't show footage online. James Gunn explains why.

Paramount Pictures and MGM have unveiled a new Ben-Hur trailer for Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov’s adaptation of the Lew Wallace novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ. The book was famously adapted in 1959 by director William Wyler with Charlton Heston in the starring role, but this new adaptation brings back more of the Biblical aspects of Wallace’s novel.

The first teaser trailer for Trainspotting 2 has finally landed online. The long in development sequel became a reality when director Danny Boyle was able to reunite the original cast for a story based on author Irvine Welsh’s follow-up novel entitled Porno.

It’s Monday which means it’s time for the weekend box office report brought to you by our friends at AMC theatres. Star Trek Beyond took the No 1 spot opening weekend, beaming up an estimated $59.6 million but falling short of Star Trek Into Darkness’ $70.1 million and Star Trek’s $75.2 million.

Warner Bros. released the first trailer for Justice League soon after the teaser from director Zack Snyder dropped at the Hall H panel at Comic Con.

On Saturday, Warner Bros unveiled the very first trailer for Wonder Woman during its Comic-Con 2016 panel. Directed by Patty Jenkins, the film stars Gal Gadot and tells the origin story of the character we met in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Marvel released their newest trailer for Doctor Strange as part of their show-stopping Comic-Con 2016 panel. The full trailer focused on the mentor relationship between Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange and Tilda Swinton‘s The Ancient One.

As Marvel put their finishing touches on the big Hall H presentation on Saturday, during the group photo with moderator Chris Hardwick Kevin Feige announced that Oscar winner Brie Larson would be Captain Marvel.

Just after Marvel wrapped its Comic-Con presentation where it shared the first footage from their Sony co-production of Spider-Man Homecoming, the official Twitter account confirmed that Vulture will be the villain in the movie.

One of the biggest surprises from the Marvel Studios’ Comic-Con panel at Hall H was the confirmation and reveal of who Kurt Russell is playing in the James Gunn directed sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

After the huge DC panel was finished in Hall H on Saturday, Warner Bros then revealed a new trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, along with first trailer releases for Kong Skull Island and Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.
