On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (September 29th, 2016) John Campea, Mark Ellis, Jon Schnepp, Jeremy Jahns and Natasha Martinez discuss the following:

-Justin Lin will direct film adaptation of Hot Wheels

-Final trailer for Rogue One to be released in October

-Opening this week

-Black Panther adds Winston Duke as M’Baku

-Spider-Man villain Nightwatch rumored to be in Homecoming

-Mail Bag

According to THR, Star Trek Beyond and Fast & Furious director Justin Lin has closed a deal to develop, direct and produce a feature based on the popular Mattel toys, Hot Wheels. Lin will team with Legendary Pictures now to search for a new writer to take on the script, with THR saying the project is still in the early stages of development. A release date has not been set.

In a new report from Star Wars News Net, Disney reportedly plans to unveil the final Rogue One trailer in October, two months before the film hits theaters. The site details that during a presentation at the Kino Expo International, a marketing director of Disney’s Russian subdivision revealed that the Rogue One final trailer would be attached to Doctor Strange, which opens October 28th in Russia. Most outlets now claim the trailer will hit online soon after.

Variety reports that Person of Interest actor Winston Duke has landed the key role of the villain M’Baku, aka Man-Ape, in Marvel’s upcoming Black Panther movie starring Chadwick Boseman. The film is directed by Creed helmer Ryan Coogler and also stars Michael B. Jordan and Lupita Nyong’o. A release date is set for Feb. 16, 2018.

Filming of Spider-Man: Homecoming has moved from Atlanta, Georgia to Peter Parker’s hometown of Queens, New York and now, a new rumor claims the film might feature yet another previously unreported villain — Nightwatch. According to Bleeding Cool, Sony employees have begun buying up any and all comic books that feature Nightwatch which, in the past, and as the cite notes, has usually indicated that a character is planned for an upcoming movie. Marvel has not confirmed the character so this is just a rumor as of now. Spider-Man Homecoming is set to hit theatres on July 7th, 2017.

According to a report from THR, Blue Sky Animation, the company behind the Ice Age franchise and the most recent The Peanuts adaptation, will produce a musical adaptation of Garth Nix's upcoming book Frogkisser, a new take on the Princess and the Frog fairy tale. The film is reported to be a hybrid of live-action and animation, which will follow Princess Anya, who has the "unfortunate ability to break curses with a magic-assisted kiss." No release date has been set.

According to THR, Open Road Films and the filmmakers behind Max Steel have lost their bid for a kid-friendly PG rating, with the movie going out with a PG-13 rating when it opens in theaters Oct. 14. The Classification and Ratings Administration upheld the PG-13 rating after a hearing Wednesday in Los Angeles for "some sci-fi action violence."

Disney has officially announced that director Jon Favreau and the studio are putting together a new reimagining of The Lion King and are fast tracking it to production. The project follows the groundbreaking smash hit The Jungle Book, directed by Favreau, which debuted in April and has earned $965.8 million worldwide. Like its upcoming Beauty and the Beast, live action reimagining, The Lion King will include songs from the animated film. No release date has been set.

The completed film will feature more than an hour of specially formatted IMAX sequences, teased in the new spot, that will provide audiences with a totally immersive and mind bending experience. Along with the trailer, a new set of character posters also debuted readying audiences for the November 4th debut of the Sorcerer Supreme.

Production on the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War doesn’t officially begin until November, but we’re slowly learning a bit about what to expect from the two-part epic. During a press day for Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children Coming Soon asked Nick Fury himself, Samuel L. Jackson, about whether or not S.H.I.E.L.D. will return to the MCU.

According to an exclusive from Variety, Mindy Kaling and Emma Thompson are set to star in an untitled movie Kaling wrote revolving around a veteran late-night talk show host; with The Social Network’s Scott Rudin producing. The story will follow a venerated late-night talk show host, played by Thompson, who’s in danger of losing her long-running show right when she hires her first female writer, played by Kaling.

20th Century Fox has announced they have signed a new multi-picture agreement with IMAX to release Maze Runner: The Death Cure, The Predator, Alita: Battle Angel, and an untitled Marvel film in IMAX format. The release notes that these films will be “digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX format,” which most recently recently partnered for the release of Deadpool. At this point the movies will be converted to IMAX with no plans mentioned for shooting on any native IMAX photography.

Paramount Pictures has released a new Fences trailer for the directorial effort from Denzel Washington. The drama is a feature film adaptation of the Tony Award-winning stage play by August Wilson which takes place in the 1950s and revolves around an African-American former baseball star who now works as a trash collector. The film stars Washington and Viola Davis and opens in theatres on December 25th.

Rings Delayed Again, Scream Queens Season 2 Premiere Review - Collider Nightmares
On this week's episode of Collider Nightmares (September 27, 2016) Perri Nemiroff, Jon Schnepp, Mark Reilly and Mark Ellis will discuss the following:

-Friday the 13th & Rings Delayed

-Snapshot 1988

-The Autopsy of Jane Doe Trailer

-John Carpenter Has Some Harsh Words for Rob Zombie and His ‘Halloween’ Remake

-The Exorcist Premiere Review

-Scream Queens Season 2, Episode 1 Review

-Jump Scare: Halloween Horror Nights & Haunted Houses

-Twitter Questions

FRESH MEAT:

It seemed like it’d be smooth sailing for Rings since we finally got a trailer in August, but it looks like the project has hit yet another snag. Paramount just announced that they’ve moved the horror sequel again, moving it from an October 28th release back to February 3rd, 2017, marking the third time that Rings has shifted on the calendar. In addition to the Rings delay, we’ve also got ERC Box Office reporting that the new Friday the 13th movie is being pushed back as well. However, that one isn’t as much of a surprise.  Now the new Friday the 13th is set to hit theaters on Friday, October 13th, 2017.

We’ve got a new project in the works that might have a little something to do with the Stranger Things craze. THR is reporting that Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard are in talks to adapt Joe Hills’ novella, Snapshot 1988, for Universal. According to the Hollywood Reporter description, Snapshot 1988 centers on “a 13-year old boy who ends up taking care of his elderly former housekeeper whom he thinks is succumbing to dementia. What he doesn’t know is that her memories are not being lost but stolen by an evil man named The Phoenician who uses a camera that steals memories.

IFC Midnight just unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming horror film The Autopsy of Jane Doe. It comes from Troll Hunter director André Øvredal and stars Brian Cox and Emile Hirsch as a father/son duo who run their family-owned morgue in Virginia. One night, an unknown female corpse is brought in after being found in the basement of a home where a multiple homicide took place. As the two begin their autopsy, strange things take place, and they soon begin to question how dead this woman really is.

As many remakes do, Rob Zombie’s Halloween “expands the mythology” and tries to explain the mystery of Michael Myers. The movie was met with a pretty strong reaction when it hit theaters and now John Carpenter himself is weighing in with some not-so-kind words for the film and for Rob Zombie himself. And as for the film itself, Carpenter admits that his opinion is influenced by his feelings towards Zombie.

WHAT’S IN THE BOX?!

We have two TV reviews for you this week, and we’re gonna start with the Series Premiere of The Exorcist. The pilot episode was directed by Rupert Wyatt and introduced us to two priests - Father Tomas and Father Marcus – who will tackle one family’s case of demonic possession. Caught in the middle of the two priests is the Rance family, who seem like a normal American family, until the mother comes to believe that there’s an evil demonic presence in their house.

Next up we’ve got our Season 2 premiere review of Scream Queens, also on FOX. This time around the Chanels and other surviving characters from Season 1 make the move from a college campus to a hospital with a haunted past where some fascinating and bizarre medical cases are under observation.

JUMP SCARES

Let’s talk haunted houses! Have any of you guys ever been to Halloween Horror Nights? Do you have a go-to haunted house you like to hit around Halloween?

Doctor Strange Confirmed In Avengers: Infinity War - Collider Movie Talk
On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (September 27th, 2016) John Campea, Kristian Harloff, Jon Schnepp, Jeremy Jahns and Ashley Mova discuss the following:

-Doctor Strange confirmed to be in Avengers Infinity War

-Jyn Erso’s mother revealed to be in Rogue One

-Opening this week

-Martin Scorsese’s Silence get’s Oscar friendly release

-Harbinger movie and shared universe in development at Sony

-Live action/animated Peter Rabbit movie in the works with James Corden, Daisy Ridley and Rose Byrne

-John Carpenter blasts Rob Zombie’s Halloween remake

-Mail Bag

At this point, the question isn’t who is in Avengers: Infinity War, the question is - who isn’t? In an interview with Empire Magazine on the set of Doctor Strange, Benedict Cumberbatch confirmed his Doctor Strange will be showing up in Infinity War, saying that they are currently trying to align his schedule with Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany.

As Gareth Edwards‘ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story approaches its December 16th release date, a new report from Belfast Live (via Screenrant) looks to have revealed the other half of Jyn Erso’s parentage. Actor Valene Kane was speaking with the outlet about her dream casting in the blockbuster fantasy and in doing so, revealed her part as none other than Lyra Erso, Jyn’s mother; though how she fits in to the story remains to be seen.

OPENING THIS WEEK

In a new report from The Wrap, Martin Scorsese’s long delayed Silence has finally secured a released date on the Oscar friendly day of December 23rd, later this year. It will then expand into more theaters later in January. Silence stars Adam Driver and Andrew Garfield as two two Jesuit priests who go looking for their mentor, played by Liam Neeson, in 17th Century Japan; a time when outsiders, and especially Christians, were treated with disdain and mistrust.

According to The Wrap, Sony is moving forward on its five-film plan for a joint film franchise based on the Valiant comic books Harbinger and Bloodshot; with the movies reportedly leading to culminate in a Harbinger Wars crossover event film. Harbinger follows a teenage runaway Peter Stanchek who has massive telekinetic powers. The second title, Bloodshot, is about a mortally wounded soldier resurrected with cutting-edge nanotechnology and charged with rounding up “harbingers” like Stanchek. No release dates have been set.

According to Variety, Daisy Ridley and Elizabeth Debicki have joined the cast of Sony’s live-action/animated hybrid Peter Rabbit, that already has Rose Byrne and James Corden attached to star. The film will be directed by Will Gluck from a screenplay by Rob Lieber, and will be made at Animal Logic, the Sydney-based animation and visual effects production studio behind the The Lego Movie. Production is due to commence in January 2017, and is set for worldwide release in April of 2018.

Original Halloween director John Carpenter took part in a Q & A with some film students back in April, with the video only now hitting the internet. In the chat, Carpenter addressed the comments made by Rob Zombie from a 2010 TV documentary called Halloween: The Inside Story and had some harsh things to say.

Cary Fukunaga, who set the bar so high after season 1 of True Detective that the entire TV world is begging for TV that perfect again, just broke hearts again by stepping away from writing and directing TNT’s The Alienist. We’ve talked about the writer director’s possible future projects, like the Napoleon miniseries at HBO and Maniac with Emma Stone and Jonah Hill for Netflix. It appears however that Fukunaga will direct the feature film The Black Count, based on The Count of Monte Cristo author Alexandre Dumas’ real life as the son of a black slave who rose the ranks of the French Army.

According to Deadline, Josh Schwartz, who created The OC and Gossip girl will be bringing the book Toy Wars: The Epic Struggle Between G.I. Joe, Barbie, and the Companies that Make Them to Amazon. Schwartz will team up with actor Josh Gad who will star in the series and co-write with Ryan Dixon. The book was written by journalist G. Wayne Miller, who spent years shadowing Hasbro CEO Alan Hassenfeld, who reluctantly took over the company after his brother passed away from AIDS.

Actor Tom Hardy’s production company Hardy Son & Baker, set up by Tom Hardy and Dean Baker are getting their first two shows up and running at NBC Universal where they have a first look overall deal. The company will produce the sci-fi drama, Trees, about alien trees appearing in our world and, Pendulum, a thriller revolving around a serial killer in the digital world.

SUPERHERO RUNDOWN

The much awaited first trailer of Supergirl on The CW, WITH Superman, finally dropped to the enthused TV watching audience. It appears the two superheroes from Krypton are working together to save the world!

With Luke Cage only 5 short days away from it’s premiere on September 30th, Netflix released the show’s final trailer. The streaming service offered us a more in depth look at Cornell Stokes played by Mahershala Ali and our first taste of Alfre Woodard as Mariah Stokes, the matriarch of the crime family. We also see more destroyed hoodies as well as the usual jacket AND a Method Man cameo.

In the latest The Flash trailer from The CW, we get a bigger glimpse of the flashpoint paradox and Barry’s interaction with Kid Flash, we also get a longer explanation of what happens in this timeline, which still confuses Josh.

The final story in Superhero rundown today is purely speculative, but it appears that Jon Bernthal could be in Marvel’s Agents of Shield. A tweet was sent out by New York Comic Con that pushed Bernthal’s appearance at the con to Saturday and Sunday due to his Netflix schedule. It could mean he has a cameo in Iron Fist, BUT it could be smoke and mirrors, because SHIELD executive producer, Jeph Loeb brought Punisher creator, Gerry Conway, along with a few other VIPs to an Agents of SHIELD screening last week.

Transformers Vs Nazis - Collider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (September 26th, 2016) John Campea, Mark Ellis, Kristian Harloff, Jeremy Jahns and Ashley Mova discuss the following:

-Captain America: Civil War storyline not over according to Russo Brothers

-Transformers: The Last Knight to include Nazis

-Box Office Report

-Sam Neill confirms he’s joined Thor: Ragnarok

-New plot details revealed for Jumanji

-Mobile game Fruit Ninja to get movie adaptation

-Joaquin Phoenix, Jared Leto and Ryan Gosling almost played Doctor Strange

-Mail Bag

Though some fans believe Captain America: Civil War ended the feud between Team Iron Man and Team Cap, that might not be the case. According to the Russo Brothers, Civil War was only the beginning. In an online Q&A, Joe Russo answered a fan’s question that asked which side they believed won, with Joe responding with he thinks the war just started.

In a report from The Sun, Michael Bay and the production of Transformers: The Last Knight have taken over Winston Churchill’s former home, Blenheim Palace, to reimagine it as Adolf Hitler’s headquarters. This stirred quite the controversy from veteran groups and so Michael Bay released a statement to BBC and in doing so revealed another character in the movie.

It’s Monday which means it’s time for the weekend box office report brought to you by our friends at AMC Theatres. The Magnificent Seven was indeed magnificent at the weekend box office taking in $35 million in its first weekend of release for an easy No 1. The other wide release, Storks, grabbed the No 2 spot with $21.8 million. Coming in at No 3 was Sully with $13.8 million. At No 4 was Bridget Jones’s Baby with $4.5 million and rounding out the top five was Oliver Stone’s Snowden, bringing in $4.1 million.

BUY OR SELL

In an interview with Shortlist, Sam Neill has revealed he will reunite with both his Hunt for the Wilderpeople director Taika Waititi and his Jurassic Park co-star Jeff Goldblum in Thor: Ragnarok.

With production on Jumanji now underway, Sony has announced a number of new additions to the cast of the film, which also reveals the plot for the sequel. Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner and Ser’Darius Blain have all joined the film, and are playing the “real world” versions of Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Jack Black and Kevin Hart’s characters. Mashable’s Jeff Sneider is also reporting that the stars are actually avatars inside the Jumanji game itself.

THR reports that New Line Cinema is dipping into mobile game territory with plans to adapt the mobile app Fruit Ninja into a movie adaptation. J.P. Lavin and Chad Damiani are writing the script for the movie which will revolve around a team of misfits who are recruited to become Fruit Ninjas in order to save the world. A release date has not been set.

Empire magazine reports that Benedict Cumberbatch’s commitment in playing Hamlet in London’s Barbican in the fall of 2015 conflicted with Marvel’s plans for a Summer 2016 release date of Doctor Strange and therefore, the actor could not be involved. The studio then looked to Joaquin Phoenix, Jared Leto and Ryan Gosling for the role; who all met with Derrickson when Kevin Feige ultimately said: “It’s got to be Benedict.”
