Fresh Meat:

As Collider Nightmares told you a few weeks back, The Crazies and Sahara director Brock Eisner currently sits in the director’s chair for the all new installment of Friday the 13th allegedly coming to theaters next year from Paramount Pictures. However, as Eisner was announced as the studio’s pick, another name was reportedly in the running as well: The Hills Have Eyes and Piranha director Alexandre Aje. Recently while promoting The Nine Lives of Louis Drax, Aja spoke with Bloody Disgusting’s Kalyn Corrigan about the project.

After directing the indie favorite Resolution followed by the critically acclaimed monster love story Spring, directors Aaron Moorehead and Justin Benson have announced their next project: The Endless which the duo will star in as well as direct, though plot details are being kept under wraps.

Back in May of this year there was exciting genre news out of Cannes stating that Dame Helen Mirren had signed on to star in Winchester, a haunted house story based on the real life of multimillionaire heiress Sarah Winchester. Based on the infamous Winchester house in San Jose, California, Sarah Winchester endured the abrupt deaths of her husband and her child and, per Deadline, “became convinced she had been cursed by the lethal legacy of the gun that won the west.” A skeptical psychiatrist, Eric Price, was sent to the home to evaluate Winchester’s sanity only to find that she may not have been so crazy after all.

Over the last few weeks, some exciting video game titles have shown us some brand new trailers. First is The Bunker, a completely live-action video game for PS4, starring The Hobbit’s Adam Brown and Penny Dreadful’s Sarah Greene with a story written and developed by gaming talent behind The Witcher. Agony from Madmind Studio. Due in 2017, the game, influenced by Silent Hill and Siren, sees players pay as “a historical figure who does not remember anything but pain and a unclear image of a mysterious Goddess.

What’s In The Box?!

October 2 can’t come soon enough as fans eagerly await the arrival of HBO’s new drama from JJ Abrams, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, Westworld. WESTWORLD is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin, exploring a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.

Alright nerds, this time it’s official: Stranger Things is coming back for a slightly longer second season and it would appear that most of our favorite characters from Hawkins will be coming too. When the announcement of the renewal hit it did so alongside a trailer that was filled with potential clues for the new episodes which will take place in the 1980s and will continue the story of Mike, Will, Lucas and Dustin. Details are being teased by both the Duffer Brothers and producers and Entertainment Weekly has the Duffers confirming we will be returning to The Upside Down and meeting new characters along the way.

Labor Day has typically marked the end of summer vacation and that means it’s also the end of the summer blockbuster season which began back in May. Summer 2016 was filled with unwanted sequels and box office flops but it wasn’t all doom and gloom: there were some solid summer flicks this year that will last long after the leaves have started to fall. With $3.54 billion in ticket sales it’s time we look at the hits, the failures and the surprises people were talking about.

After the long holiday weekend it’s time for the box office report brought to you by our friends at AMC Theatres. Don’t Breathe dominated the four-day Labor Day weekend taking in $19.6 million for the No 1 spot bringing its domestic total to $55 million. Suicide Squad took in $12.8 million for the No 2 spot, crossing $300 million domestic in the process. Pete’s Dragon came in at No 3 with $8.6 million with Kubo and the Two Strings right on its heels at $8.5 million for the No 4 spot. And at No 5 is Sausage Party, taking in $6.5 million over 4 days, for a total $89.6 million domestic.

Some new set photos have been snapped from the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming seemingly revealing the villain Shocker. At this point, little is known about who took the photos though the images have popped up on multiple Twitter accounts showing an unidentified actor in costume. No confirmation from Marvel or Sony in regards to who might be under the costume.

BUY OR SELL

According to a report from Radar Online, Sony Pictures is offering James Bond star Daniel Craig $150 million to reprise his role as 007 for two more franchise films. Radar’s sources say the studio is desperate to secure the actor’s services while they phase in a younger long-term successor.

According to ComingSoon.net, Sony Pictures will need more time to get their Uncharted movie ready to go. The site reports that the film was just removed from the studio’s release calendar, which was previously scheduled to hit theaters on June 30, 2017. Joe Carnahan is the current screenwriter tasked with bringing the story to the screen. No other details have been offered at this time.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 writer/director James Gunn gave Vin Diesel a first look at the anticipated sequel this past weekend with the actor jumping on Facebook live to share his reaction. Gunn revealed that the script is a special version that only Vin Diesel has.

According to Variety Australian state and federal organizations will provide finance for Winchester, a supernatural thriller to be directed by film making brothers Peter and Michael Spierig. Production will start in Melbourne, Australia in early 2017 with Helen Mirren in the role of Sarah Winchester, a millionaire heiress to the Winchester Arms fortune who designed and built the renowned Winchester Mystery House. A release date has yet to be set.
