On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (October 31st, 2016) John Campea, Mark Ellis, Jon Schnepp, Ashley Mova and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

-James Gunn directed Stan Lee’s next four cameos

-Tom Hardy to play Al Capone in Fonzo directed by Josh Trank

-Doug Liman says Edge of Tomorrow 2 is a sequel that’s a prequel

-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles producers say don’t expect a Turtles 3

-Mail Bag

In an interview with EW, Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson revealed that James Gunn shot four cameos for Stan Lee for four upcoming Marvel feature releases. Collider reported a few months back that Lee had flown down to Atlanta to film the set, and now we know who was behind the lens.

According to a report from Deadline, Tom Hardy is attached to play American gangster Al Capone in Fonzo, a new project written and to be directed by Josh Trank. The film is currently in pre-production and will center on the later years of Capone.

It’s Monday which means it’s time for the weekend box office report brought to you by AMC Theatres. Boo! A Madea Halloween took the No 1 spot at the weekend box office for a second week in a row, pulling in $16.7 million and bringing its domestic total to $52 million. Sony's Inferno, the third film in the Robert Langdon series, fell $10 million shy of expectations pulling in $15 million for a No 2 finish. Jack Reacher: Never Go Back took the No 3 spot in its second weekend, delivering $9.6 million with a domestic total of $39.7. The Accountant took the No 4 spot with $8.5 million bringing its domestic total to $61.3 million. And rounding out the top 5 was Ouija: Origin of Evil, pulling in $7.1 million for a domestic total of $24.6 million.

According to THR, Nu Image/Millennium Films is plotting a reboot to Rambo, the classic 1980s action franchise that starred Sylvester Stallone. Brooks McLaren will write the script with Ariel Vromen directing. Titled Rambo: New Blood, the reboot will not see Stallone return as he did in Millennium’s 2008 outing, instead, a younger actor will be recast in the role.

Collider’s own Steve Weintrub recently spoke with director Doug Liman in anticipation of his scripted supernatural VR series Invisible, when the conversation turned to an update on Edge of Tomorrow 2. Both Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt are signed to return.

In an interview about their latest horror sequel Ouija: Origin of Evil, Collider’s Steve ‘Frosty’ Weintraub asked producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller about their thoughts on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Out of the Shadows, and whether or not the box office was enough to warrant a third film in the franchise.

According to a report from Deadline, Harry Potter producer David Heyman’s biblical epic Methuselah is moving forward at Warner Bros with Tom Cruise and director Joachim Rønning, who is fresh off directing Disney’s 2017 summer blockbuster, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Doctor Strange Premiere, Deadpool 2 Director Departs - Collider Heroes
Welcome to the 80th Episode of Collider’s Heroes, hosted by Jon Schnepp, with guests Robert Meyer Burnett, Amy Dallen, and John Campea. On this episode of Collider’s Heroes (Wednesday October 26th, 2016) we discuss:

-Doctor Strange premiere

-Tim Miller exits Deadpool 2

-James Wan talks Aquaman

-New teaser released for Legion

-The CW's superhero series discussion

-Minor Mutations

-Flashback - Doctor Mordrid (1992)

-Spotlight - Saga

-Twitter questions

Heroes on the Big Screen

So the newest Marvel studios film has landed, with its world premiere at the TCL Chinese, in IMAX 3D. John Campea and Jon Schnepp were lucky enough to be invited to attend this star studded event with our better halves, and survived this transdimensional super sweaty experience to tell you about it! Let’s talk about who was there, and then get into some non spoilery stuff about the film itself.

Tim Miller leaves Deadpool 2 + the new Logan trailer

With news of Tim Miller leaving due to creative differences with star Ryan Reynolds, revealed to be in the casting of the character Cable, what does this hold for everyone’s favorite assassin?! These guys did the first film together, from the leaked promo, down to the finished product, and I have no interest in seeing Deadpool become Van Wilder 2! People are quick to forget that Miller’s company did a ton of work for next to nothing to make this film look incredible! I hope they can work this out! We also got a masterful trailer for the third Wolverine film called “Logan”, which purports to be the last time Hugh Jackman will wear the claws.

Aquaman on a Quest Like Indiana Jones?

James Wan has talked about his direction in the story for Aquaman, after Justice League. Wan stated "I kind of don't want to give too much away but know this: The spirit that I'm going for is like a classic sort of swashbuckling action adventure, sort of high seas adventure story," revealed Wan. "It's ultimately a quest story in the spirit of Raiders of the Lost Ark meets Romancing the Stone.

Heroes On The Small Screen

FX new series LEGION promos reveal a very powerful mutant played by David Haller. With this series being showrun by Fargo’s talented  and writers, this is a new series I personally cannot wait for. It is now supposed to have a loose connection to Prof X, as Legions father. We also have an Xmen series involving a mutant family on the run, and a brand new relaunch in 2017 for the MArvel Xmen Comics line. What does everyone think about this new Legion series?

WB CW has four DC shows, and we are going to be highlighting them all once a week! Let’s start with Supergirl for Schnepp; Flash for Amy;  Arrow for Campea, and Legends of Tomorrow for Robert. We got the Justice Society of America in 1942 so let’s talk about their first official appearance!

With Agents of Shield chugging along, mixed with a supernatural Ghost riding and Terrigen mist inhaling, we’ve got enough new blood to make this series very watchable

Minor Mutations:

Flashback

Spotlight

A moment of Reflection for Steve Dillon, creator of Preacher.

Uncharted Movie Lands New Director - Collider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (October 26th, 2016) John Campea, Kristian Harloff, Jon Schnepp, Ashley Mova and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

-Shawn Levy to direct Uncharted movie at Sony

-More details released over Tim Miller’s exit on Deadpool 2

-AMC Rewind

-Shane Black talks scary and funny The Predator

-James Wan talks Aquaman and Mera’s relationship

-New details released for Friday the 13th reboot

-First trailer released for Man Down starring Shia LaBeouf

-Shaun of the Sheep 2 movie in development

According to an exclusive report from Deadline, Sony Pictures has set Shawn Levy to direct Uncharted, the long-awaited feature film based on the PlayStation video game. Joe Carnahan wrote the most recent draft of the script before he moved on to focus on Sony’s Bad Boys For Life. A release date has not been set.

According to The Wrap, it was a soaring budget plus two conflicting visions at the heart of Tim Miller’s exit from Deadpool 2. In the initial talks, Ryan Reynolds and his screenwriters envisioned a “scrappy” and raunchy, inexpensive movie in the vein of the first while director Miller wanted a stylish take that would compete with big-budget superhero movies, reportedly costing three times as much as the original $58 million film.

Casting on The Predator is currently underway in anticipation of an early 2017 production start-date. Collider’s Adam Chitwood was able to sit down and speak with director Shane Black during promotion of the book On Story, when the subject of his Predator movie and its tone came up.

Last week director James Wan teased Aquaman as an action adventure movie with some Indiana Jones thrown in. Now, he’s talking more about the film’s two lead characters, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Amber Heard’s Mera.

During an extensive interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub, Platinum Dunes producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form gave some more details on why it’s been taking so long for us to see the next Friday the 13th movie. In addition, Fuller and Form also revealed the new movie will be a period piece and a “hard R,” shot primarily in Georgia.

The first trailer for Man Down has been released starring Shia LaBeouf. The movie reunites LaBeouf with his A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints helmer Dito Montiel, who directs from a script by Adam G. Simon. The story finds LaBeouf as a U.S. Marine returning home from his tour in Afghanistan to a post-apocalyptic America.

Deadline reports that Aardman and Studiocanal are reteaming for another woolly adventure with Shaun The Sheep Movie 2.

Top Choices To Direct Deadpool 2 - Colllider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (October 25th, 2016) John Campea, Mark Ellis, Jon Schnepp, Ashley Mova and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

-Who should direct Deadpool 2?

-Sausage Party to submit for Oscar consideration

-Opening this week

-Daisy Ridley says her parentage will be revealed in Episode VIII

-Peter Jackson to adapt YA novel Mortal Engines

-Margot Robbie joins Peter Rabbit

-The Rock sings in new Moana clip

-Mail Bag

When news first hit that Deadpool director Tim Miller would be exiting the sequel over creative differences, the internet was abuzz with names on who should direct the movie, taking into account the fact that they will have to also gel with producer and star Ryan Reynolds. And though an enterprising fan created a Change.org petition asking Quentin Tarantino to step into the deserted slot, it got us thinking – who should direct Deadpool 2? We asked the panel to come up with their two choices to take over Deadpool 2.

According to a report from THR, Sony is lining up screenings, mailers, ads and more as part of a new campaign to land Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's R-rated spoof of animated movies, Sausage Party, Academy Awards recognition. The film will be submitted for Oscars consideration in the Animated Feature category.

Ever since the debut of The Force Awakens, fans have been wondering who Rey’s parents are and when their identity will be revealed. While Daisy Ridley isn’t saying much, she did say when we’ll be able to find out. Speaking with Vulture, Ridley addressed the theories out there saying to wait a year.

According to THR, Universal Pictures is teaming with Peter Jackson on an adaptation of Philip Reeve’s science-fiction fantasy book series, Mortal Engines. Jackson’s wife and partner Fran Walsh wrote the script with their collaborator Philippa Boyens. Jackson will not direct but will instead hand helming duties over to longtime protégé Christian Rivers, who will make his feature directorial debut.

According to a report from THR, Margot Robbie is in final negotiations to join the cast of Peter Rabbit, Sony’s live-action/CG hybrid adaptation of the children’s tale written by Beatrix Potter. Robbie joins already cast James Corden, Rose Byrne and Domhnall Gleeson, which will be directed by Will Gluck.

Disney has released a new clip from Moana, featuring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Maui character singing an original song written by Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda called “You’re Welcome,” who also composed all the original songs for the Pacific Island-set musical.

Obviously many experts think the deal may not go through, but if it does, AT&T would now be in the market for original programming.

FX, the network behind American Crime Story and fresh off the success of The People VS. OJ Simpson have announced season 3 will focus on the Versace murders. Season 2 of the series will follow the tragedies and corruption following Hurricane Katrina, is currently filming and season 3 will shoot concurrently. Deadpool 2 Loses Director - Collider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (October 24th, 2016) John Campea, Mark Ellis, Kristian Harloff, Ashley Mova and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

-Deadpool 2 loses director Tim Miller

-Donald Glover cast as Lando in Young Han Solo

-Box office report

-Michael Dougherty to helm Godzilla 2

-Chris Pine joins Ava DuVernay’s Wrinkle in Time

-Jennifer Lawrence to play Zelda Fitzgerald in biopic directed by Ron Howard

-Kevin Feige reluctant to bring Netflix heroes to MCU

-Mail Bag

Deadline reports that after a series of creative differences between Deadpool director Tim Miller and star Ryan Reynolds, Miller has exited Deadpool 2. Studio insiders for the outlet say the exit was over mutual creative differences and ended amicably. However, according to The Wrap, a casting issue came to a head over the possible booking of Kyle Chandler as Cable, with Miller wanting the Bloodline actor and Ryan Reynolds opting for someone else.

Lucasfilm has officially announced Donald Glover has been cast as young Lando Calrissian in the still-untitled Anthology Star Wars Film about Han Solo. Helmed by directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, Glover is the first actor to officially join Alden Ehrenreich’s Solo character.

It’s Monday which means it’s time for the weekend box office report brought to you by AMC Theatres. Lionsgate's Boo! A Madea Halloween took the No 1 spot at the box office, taking in $27.1 million. That was good enough to beat Tom Cruise’s return to the Jack Reacher franchise. The second chapter, Never Go Back, debuted in the No 2 spot with $23 million. Universal's Ouija: Origin of Evil narrowly edged out Warner's The Accountant, taking in $14 million and 60 thousand for the No 3 spot while The Accountant made 14 million and 25 thousand for the No 4 spot. The Girl on the Train held on for the No 5 spot, adding $7.2 million to its domestic total of $58.9 million.

BUY OR SELL

It appears that Godzilla 2 not only has new writers, but may also have a director as well. On Friday came news that Legendary and Warner Bros. tapped Krampus screenwriters Michael Dougherty and Zach Shields to pen the script and now, according to ScreenCrush, Dougherty is in talks to direct the film as well.

According to a report from THR, Chris Pine has joined the cast of director Ava DuVernay‘s A Wrinkle in Time. The outlet says Pine will be playing the part of Mr. Murry, father to Storm Reid’s Meg and husband to Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Dr. Kate Murry. The lineup for the novel adaptation also includes Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon.

Variety reports that Jennifer Lawrence will star in a biopic about famous Jazz Age socialite Zelda Fitzgerald with Ron Howard directing the movie entitled Zelda. The pic follows Fitzgerald, who after marrying famed author F. Scott Fitzgerald, tries to find her own voice in the jazz music scene as her husband rises through the ranks of great American novelists.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been designed as one big playground, but it hasn’t really worked out that way when it comes to their movie and television universes. During the recent press junket for Doctor Strange, Collider’s own Steve Weintraub asked Marvel head Kevin Feige when we might see some crossover.
