First Images of Lara Croft From Tomb Raider Released - Collider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (February 7th, 2017) Mark Ellis, Mark Reilly, Perri Nemiroff, Asley Mova and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

-First photos of Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider

-World War Z 2 pulled from Paramount’s schedule

-Opening this week: 50 Shades Darker and John Wick Chapter 2

-Thanos is “Main Character” in Infinity War says Kevin Feige

-Shyamalan has 11 page outline for Split sequel

-Friday the 13th reboot cancelled

-Avatar 2

-Lego Superman

Production is finally underway on the long in development Tomb Raider reboot and now, some new set photos have been revealed giving us our very first look at Alicia Vikander’s Lara Croft in action. Vikander steps into the role of Croft, the only daughter of an aristocratic family who ventures out into dangerous locations in search of ancient artifacts with supernatural powers. Norwegian director Roar Uthaug, who directed The Wave, helms the Warner Bros. reboot, which also has Walton Goggins set as villain Father Mathias Vogel, Daniel Wu as ship captain Lu Ren, and Dominic West as Croft’s father Lord Richard Croft. The film is slated for release on March 16, 2018.

Paramount yesterday quietly pulled the sequel to World War Z from its release schedule. The movie will no longer open on June 9th, which is not a big surprise seeing as the movie hadn’t even begun production yet. Currently no date is scheduled for the sequel, but sources for Variety say Paramount is looking for some extra time to develop the script with the studio hoping to release the film in 2018 or 2019. Paramount also dropped Friday the 13th from its schedule (more on that later) with the studio then announcing it will be give its old release slot of Friday, October 13th to Darren Aronofsky’s Mother!, a thriller starring Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Thanks to an exclusive interview with Kevin Feige from the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, our very own Perri Nemiroff was able to get some clarifying statements about Thanos’ role in the upcoming, all hands on deck, Avengers sequel: Infinity War. In the detailed set visit, Perri learned a bit more about the story in Vol 2, the fallout from Peter Quill’s run in with the Power Stone, the relationship between Rocket and Baby Groot and why Thanos was not intended to be in the Guardians sequel. But perhaps the biggest news is the statement made by Kevin Feige about the size of Thanos’ role in Infinity War.

Now that Split is a bonafide hit at the box office taking the number one spot at the box office three weekends in a row, it’s no surprise there is already talk of a sequel. We’ll spare you the particulars of the concept for those who haven’t seen Split (but you should see it), now director and writer M Night Shymalan confirmed the development of a sequel to Split as his next movie in a tweet.

Just as Paramount pulled the Friday the 13th reboot off the schedule, an exclusive from THR has revealed that the movie has been cancelled indefinitely. With less than six weeks go to before principal photography on the reboot began, the studio let Platinum Dunes, the production company behind the movie, and director Breck Eisner to halt pre-production immediately. The exact reason for the move is unclear, though THR sources say that execs quickly began second guessing Friday the 13th after their other horror movie, Rings, opened well below expectations at this past weekend’s box office.
