On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Monday July 31st, 2017) Mark Ellis, Kristian Harloff, Jon Schnepp, Perri Nemiroff, Ashley Mova and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

-Josh Brolin announces he will return as Thanos in Avengers 4

-Director of Photography Bradford Young will finish Young Han Solo despite director shake-up

-Box Office Report

-Joe Manganiello teases whether or not Deathstroke will still be in The Batman

-New trailer for LBJ starring Woody Harrelson

-Mail Bag

-Live Twitter Questions

It looks as though Josh Brolin is back for Avengers 4. Taking to his Instagram account yesterday, Brolin confirmed he was to begin filming on the currently untitled Avengers 4 and reprising his role as big-baddie Thanos. Though at one point Avengers 4 was said to be the second part of the Infinity War story later, the Russo’s said we’d be getting a whole, different movie with Avengers 4. But with Brolin’s post it’s now clear that Thanos will continue to play a significant role in the MCU, at least for Avengers 4.

After Chris Miller and Phil Lord parted ways with Lucasfilm and from their directing duties on the Young Han Solo movie, a question arose as to whether or not Bradford Young, the director of photography, would stay on the production along-side Ron Howard. On Saturday, we got confirmation when Howard took to Twitter posting a picture of him setting up a shot alongside Young.

It’s Monday which means it’s time for the weekend box office report.

After a number of shake-ups in the DCEU, including Ben Affleck stepping down from directing The Batman and adding Matt Reeves – talk has turned to Joe Manganiello and whether or not he’ll still play Deathstroke in the stand-alone movie. With Reeves announcing he’ll be starting from scratch on the new script, and that he envisions a trilogy of films for the character, what does that mean for Manganiello’s Deathstroke? The actor recently spoke with THR, revealing that he may or may not have information on The Batman.

Dean Devlin’s Electric Entertainment has released the first trailer for Rob Reiner’s LBJ movie, starring Woody Harrelson as the 36th President of the United State of America. The movie sets Harrelson as Lyndon Baines Johnson, who finds himself sidelined in the role of vice president after losing the 1960 Democratic presidential nomination to Senator John F. Kennedy. Everything changes however, when on Nov. 22, 1963, Kennedy is assassinated and Johnson is suddenly thrust into the presidency. The ensemble cast includes Jennifer Jason Leigh, Richard Jenkins, Bill Pullman, Jeffrey Donovan and Michael Stahl-David.

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Friday, July 28th, 2017) Perri Nemiroff, John Rocha, David Griffin, Clarke Wolfe, Sinead DeVries and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

-Warner Bros. plans groundbreaking Oscar campaign for Patty Jenkins and Wonder Woman for Best Picture

-Despite rumors David Ayer is still involved in Gotham City Sirens

-Fede Alvarez developing techno thriller from 'The Guest' screenwriter Simon Barrett

-International trailer released for Flatliners

-First trailer released for Suburbicon

With $781 million in global box office receipts and counting, Wonder Woman has broken the record as the highest-grossing movie ever directed by a woman. Now, according to Variety, Warner Bros. is hoping to break a lot more records. The trade reports that WB has internally discussed launching a groundbreaking awards-season campaign for Wonder Woman in the hopes of making it the first comic-book film ever nominated for best picture. The studio also plans to push Patty Jenkins in for best director; a feat no other director has achieved which is a best director nod for a comic book movie.

The latest rumors in the DCEU have spread like wildfire and even David Ayer is not immune. Just as a report surfaced that the Suicide Squad director was not involved in the recently announced Gotham City Sirens, via Slash Film, Ayer’s representatives confirm that he is still attached to the movie, with a script still being written. The director also personally took to Twitter to post a clear reaffirmation of his involvement by posting a picture of Harley Quinn, a’ la the Shining, with a comic sketch of the character crashing through a door.

THR reports that Bad Hombre, the genre production banner from Good Universe and Don’t Breathe’s Fede Alvarez, has announced its first project; an untitled techno thriller written by The Guest’s Simon Barrett. Details about the movie remain under wraps, but what we do know is that Hobo With a Shotgun director Jason Eisener will helm the movie, with Alvarez producing. Barrett is known for writing the horror hits You're Next and A Horrible Way to Die and most recently worked with Adam Wingard on the sequel Blair Witch.

Sony Pictures has debuted a new international trailer for Flatliners; the new movie based on Joel Schumacher’s 1990 cult hit that starred Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, and Julia Roberts. The movie stars Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton and Kiersey Clemens as medical students hoping to gain insight into the mystery of what happens after death.

Paramount Pictures released the very first trailer for Suburbicon. Directed by George Clooney and written by the Coen Brothers, the movie features an all-star cast that includes Matt Damon, Julianne Moore, Noah Jupe, and Oscar Isaac. The movie takes place in the late 1950s, as Damon’s character begins unraveling the secrets that lurk beneath his town’s seemingly peaceful and perfect exterior. The movie opens in theatres on October 27th.

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Thursday, July 27th, 2017) Mark Ellis, Clarke Wolfe, Jeremy Jahns, Mark Reilly, Natasha Martinez and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

-Director shortlist for Bond 25 revealed

-James Cameron says he’s planning trilogy of rebooted Terminator movies

-Opening This Week – The Emoji Movie

-Young Han Solo enlists How To Train Your Dragon composer John Powell to compose

-Jared Leto eyed for Sony’s Bloodshot adaptation

According to a report from Deadline, three names have emerged as the frontrunners to direct Bond 25. Producers for Eon and MGM have reportedly zoned in on Arrival’s Denis Villenueve, 71’s Yann Demange and Hell or High Water’s David Mackenzie to tackle the next 007, with the New York Times saying Daniel Craig is likely to sign on for one more go-around. However, soon after Deadline’s story dropped, Variety chimed in with their report saying it’s 71’s Yann Demange who is the choice to helm the picture. Eon and MGM just recently tweeted out an announcement saying the next movie in the series will land in theatres on November 8th, 2019.

Fans, arguably, believe that there are only two good Terminator movies - and they are the only two that come from director James Cameron. With the Titanic director heading into production on Avatar 2 and 3 respectively, talk now has turned to the new Terminator movie that was announced back in January; that has Cameron returning to produce and Deadpool director Tim Miller signed on to helm. Speaking about the project to News.com, Cameron revealed that he’s not only envisioning one franchise reboot, but a whole new trilogy.

Starwars.com announced yesterday that Shrek and How To Train Your Dragon composer John Powell has been tapped to score the untitled Young Han Solo movie. Also known for his composing on the Matt Damon Bourne series, as well as Kung Fu Panda, the London native earned an Academy Award nomination for his score on How to Train Your Dragon. The press release from Lucasfilm states that the Han Solo movie will be scored in the style of the original Star Wars movies but will still retain Powell’s “distinctive voice.” The untitled young Han Solo movie directed by Ron Howard, is set to hit theatres on May 25, 2018.

Deadline is reporting that Jared Leto is in talks for the title character in Sony Pictures’ Bloodshot; the adaptation of the comic from Valiant Entertainment. The story centers on a mob killer named Angelo Mortalli who enters the witness protection program. When he is betrayed by a handler, he becomes part of a secret experiment to create the ultimate killing machine by having his memories erased and injected with microscopic computers called nanites.

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Wednesday, July 26th, 2017) Mark Ellis, Kristian Harloff, Jeremy Jahns, Jon Schnepp, Ashley Mova and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

-Wonder Woman 2 announced for December 2019; Patty Jenkins in negotiations to return

-Zack Snyder and David Ayer’s DC future up in the air

-Lionsgate plotting John Wick Universe with new movie 'Ballerina'

-Channing Tatum top choice for Van Helsing in Dark Universe

-Olympus Has Fallen sequel ‘Angel Has Fallen’ in the works with director Ric Roman Waugh

-Rick Famuyiwa in talks to direct ‘Son of Shaolin’

-Mail Bag

Last night it became official: Gal Gadot will return for a Wonder Woman sequel, and Warner Bros. has greenlit the movie and dated it for December 13, 2019. Patty Jenkins is in negotiations to return as director, but hasn’t officially been announced as coming back – though she is expected to do so.

Coming from a report at Mashable, sources for the site say Zack Snyder will be taking a significantly smaller role within the DCEU moving forward after Justice League. Snyder was a primary engineer of the universe at Warner Bros, creating the look and style with Man of Steel that was to continue with his Justice League before stepping down.  While Zack and his wife and producer Deborah will be getting directing and producing credits on Justice League, multiple sources for Mashable say the two are figuring out their next move, which may include Warner Bros films not within the DCEU.

THR is reporting that Basil Iwanyk, the producer behind the hit John Wick action series, along with Lionsgate, have won a bidding war for a female-centric action script titled Ballerina that will serve as a possible John Wick spin-off. The deal marks the first sale for scribe Shay Hatten, a 23-year old writer who is currently working as a writer's assistant for Robert Downey Jr.’s production company, Team Downey. Ballerina is described as being in the vein of La Femme Nikita with a more pulpy, hyper-stylized angle a la Quentin Tarantino and Matthew Vaughn.

According to a report from THR, Universal Pictures is now eyeing Channing Tatum to take the lead of famed monster hunter Van Helsing. While Van Helsing was originally an older gentleman and not a “vampire hunter” in Bram Stoker’s original novel, he’s been rebooted in the past to be younger and more of an expert in the hunting of monsters. While there are few details on the plot of the movie, co-writer Eric Heisserer told Collider back in February that his idea is for an everyday hero rather than a superhero stopping monsters.

Variety is reporting that Shot Caller director Ric Roman Waugh will direct the next installment in the Olympus Has Fallen series entitled Angel Has Fallen. The movie will see Gerard Butler’s secret service agent Mike Banning return along with Morgan Freeman, who is also on board to reprise his role. The movie will tell the story of agent Banning becoming a target himself when terrorists take over mid-flight on Air Force One.

THR reports that Dope director Rick Famuyiwa is in negotiations to direct Son of Shaolin, a teen martial arts feature set up at Columbia Pictures, with Dwayne Johnson producing. Based on a graphic novel, the modern-day kung fu epic combines Shaolin mythology with a story about a group of teens who live in a up and coming neighborhood. After an aspiring street artist discovers he is the last of his bloodline, he must find a way to survive a seemingly unstoppable killer.

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Tuesday, July 25th, 2017) Mark Ellis, Perri Nemiroff, Ken Napzok, Jon Schnepp, Ashley Mova and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

-Justice League reshoots add months/$25 million to production

-Bond 25 to be released in 2019

-Opening This Week – Atomic Blond

-Avengers Infinity War to be longest Marvel movie to date

-Anne Hathaway in talks to for Barbie movie

According to an extensive report from Variety, it looks as if WB and DC are spending big money to ensure that Justice League is a creative success and not a critical failure. Variety’s report claims WB is spending upwards of $25 million in reshoots they’re calling extensive, and adding an extra two months to the production. Because of this, it’s creating scheduling nightmares for its in demand cast – most notably for Henry Cavill, who is shooting Mission Impossible 6 and is forbidden from shaving his mustache he grew for the part. The reshoots for JL now are forced to digitally remove it from the movie. Insiders also report to Variety that Joss Whedon, who has now spent months overseeing the project, will not receive a co-directing credit.

The official Twitter account for 007 announced yesterday that James Bond will return in 2019. The twenty-fifth movie in the franchise will officially land on November 8th of that year, however, no director has been announced at this time. And though the tweet didn’t mention if Daniel Craig would be returning, late last night the New York Times dropped a report saying Daniel Craig’s return is a “done deal;” this according to two people briefed on the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to avoid conflicts with Eon and MGM, the companies and studio behind the franchise.

In a surprise to no one, Avengers: Infinity War is going to be one long movie. The third Avengers movie has been described as the culmination of the entire MCU with pretty much every MCU character showing up in the movie and its untitled Avengers 4 sequel. With most of the filming on Infinity War now wrapped, co-director Joe Russo revealed to Collider’s own Steve Weintraub during a backstage chat after the Hall H presentation that the final Avengers: Infinity War run time will very likely be at least two and a half hours.

According to a report from THR, Oscar winner Anne Hathaway is in talks to play Barbie in the long-in-the-works feature project. At the same time, rising Australian director Alethea Jones is in talks to direct the movie after being handpicked by Hathaway, who THR says was an integral part in choosing a filmmaker.
