Focus Features has released a new trailer for Joe Wright’s historical drama Darkest Hour. Scripted by The Theory of Everything’s Anthony McCarten, the film stars an unrecognizable Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill and begins on the eve of World War II, chronicling Churchill’s difficult push to get England to stand up to Nazi Germany and enter the war rather than negotiate a treaty.

A new international trailer for Thor: Ragnarok has been released online showcasing some new footage specifically geared to the Chinese market overseas.

Lionsgate Premiere has released the first trailer for Gotti starring John Travolta. Directed by Kevin Connelly, the film spans three decades and follows the rise and fall of crime boss John Gotti as he tried to build the Gambino Crime Family both during and between his stints in prison.

In a new interview with Billboard, Danny Elfman offered up some new details from his Justice League score, including the fact that he’s going back to some iconic DC character themes from previous films and implementing them in new ways – including using John Williams’ iconic Superman theme, but spun in a different way.

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Thursday September 28th, 2017) Mark Ellis, Perri Nemiroff, Dennis Tzeng, Mark Reilly, Natasha Martinez and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

1) New Terminator dated for summer 2019; will ignore other movies except Terminator and T2

2) Michelle Williams in talks for Venom opposite Tom Hardy

3) Opening This Week – Flatliners, Lucky

4) Denis Villenueve in early talks for Sony’s Cleopatra

5) Black-ish creator Kenya Barris to re-write, Jonathan Levine to direct Coming to America 2

Skydance and Paramount Pictures have officially dated the new Terminator movie, which now appears to be on the fast track after director Tim Miller and producer James Cameron announced another movie in the series, the first in a trilogy, that will see Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger returning to their iconic roles. The movie will now open on July 26, 2019 and, thanks to an interview with Cameron and Miller at THR, will ignore the previous entries in the series by being a direct sequel to Terminator and T2 Judgement Day. No plot details have been offered up at this time.

According to Variety, Four-time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams is in talks to play the female lead in Sony’s Venom opposite Tom Hardy. Ruben Fleischer directs the movie which will also feature Emmy winner Riz Ahmed as a popular Marvel character, rumored to be Carnage. Williams is expected to play a district attorney who serves as a potential love interest for Eddie Brock.

OPENING THIS WEEK

Deadline is reporting that after some positive reactions to Denis Villenueve’s upcoming Blade Runner 2049, the director is now in early talks to helm Sony’s epic retelling of Cleopatra. The script by David Scarpa, Eric Roth and Brian Helgeland is based on the bestselling Stacy Schiff biography, which has Angelina Jolie still rumored to be the front runner to lead the pic; though Deadline’s report says it is unclear if that is still the case.

According to THR, Jonathan Levine, the director of Warm Bodies and 50/50, and Black-ish creator Kenya Barris are teaming up for Coming to America 2. Barris is writing the new draft while Levine has signed on to direct. Eddie Murphy is involved in the development of the sequel, though he hasn’t officially signed on to reprise his 1988 role as Akeem.

1) Earlier this year, Spider-Man: Homecoming hit theatres to positive reviews that have led to the movie being the top grossing superhero movie of 2017. The film introduced Peter Parker’s Spider-Man into the MCU but there was another reference to another Spidey – that being through the introduction of Donald Glover’s character, Aaron Davis, the uncle to Miles Morales; Marvel Universe’s newest Spider-Man who took up Peter Parker’s role in the Ultimate Comics. Now, in a newly released deleted scene from the forthcoming Homecoming Blu-Ray, Donald glover is featured in the scene calling home and saying: “I’m sorry, Miles - I’m not going to make it.”

Deadline is reporting that Roosevelt, a dramatic movie about President Teddy Roosevelt, has been set up at Paramount with Leonardo DiCaprio starring and Martin Scorsese directing. The movie is said to feature Roosevelt’s event filled life, that will center on his military exploits and his political track where he moved from New York Governor to vice president to becoming the youngest president when President William Mckinley was assassinated in 1901.

3) First ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Reactions Tease an Eye-Popping Sequel That’s Worthy of the Original – Special Guest panelis Steve Frosty Weintraub.

According to Deadline, Phil Lord & Christopher Miller have finally found their next directing project and have signed on to develop and direct Artemis, the novel by The Martian author Andy Weir. The project is a big priority over at 20th Century Fox, who will distribute, and is described as an adrenaline-charged crime caper centering on Jazz, a twentysomething woman living in the small town of Artemis, the first and only city on the moon.

Legendary Pictures and Universal have released the first set of posters for Pacific Rim Uprising featuring John Boyega, Scott Eastwood and some of the new Jaegers that will be featured in the film.
