According to a report from THR, IT director Andy Muschietti is set to develop and direct an adaptation of Robotech for Sony Pictures. Based on the sci-fi epic, Robotech takes place in a time when Earth has developed giant robots from the technology of an alien spacecraft that crash landed on a South Pacific island. The project has no writer but the studio expects to work with Muschietti on finding someone quickly as the project is a high priority for Sony and is moving quickly to put the pieces together.

Warner Bros. and Alcon Entertainment have unveiled a new trailer for Blade Runner 2049, the highly anticipated sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1980s sci-fi classic. Directed by Arrival and Sicario filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, Blade Runner 2049‘s story is set 30 years after the events of the first film and stars Ryan Gosling as LAPD Officer K, who discovers a secret that leads him on a mission to track and find Rick Deckard, played by Harrison Ford. Villeneuve reteams with frequent cinematographer Roger Deakins while Ridley Scott produces. The movie hits theaters on October 6th.

Leatherface will be released exclusively on DirecTV on September 21st, with a limited theatrical run and full VOD debut on October 20th.

Lin-Manuel Miranda looks to continue his time as a Disney all-star where, this past Sunday at D23, it was confirmed Miranda is co-scoring The Little Mermaid live action adaptation alongside original composer Alan Menken. Menken and the Hamilton creator will work together on creating new music for the movie, which does not yet have a director or a cast. No release date has been set at this time.

The first trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi is expected to drop this Friday at the annual Celebration event in Orlando, Florida. Unlike the first teaser from The Force Awakens which was only 90 seconds in length, Star Wars News Net is hearing from their sources that The Last Jedi trailer will “definitely have the "full trailer" feel and not just as a brief teaser.” This week is a big one for Star Wars fans, with Celebrations kicking off this Thursday, a new Force For Change campaign launched this morning with Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley. Starting today April 11th through May 11th, 2017, fans can enter at Omaze.com/StarWars for a chance to win a ticket to The Last Jedi premiere, a trip to Skywalker Ranch, or a walk on part in the Young Han Solo Movie.

According to Variety, Ron Howard and his Imagine Entertainment company have won in a bidding war the rights to direct and produce an adaptation of J.D. Vance’s bestselling novel Hillbilly Elegy.

According to Deadline, RatPat Entertainment and Brett Ratner have secured the life rights for a biopic on Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. The film is currently without a writer or director, but Brett Ratner will now begin the process of developing the movie as a producer from the ground up.

THR is reporting that the book entitled Hostage to the Devil written by Father Malachi Martin has been picked up by Penchant Entertainment for a movie adaptation. The author, Father Martin, is sometimes cited as the inspiration for William Blatty's The Exorcist and is a former Jesuit priest who wrote 17 books over his lifetime, with the original published in 1976.

With Universal Pictures rebooting their Monster Cinematic Universe in the first standalone The Mummy, the next question fans have is what Monster Movie we can expect to see as the next installment.

Now that Matt Reeves has officially signed on to direct The Batman, Variety’s Justin Kroll is saying that due to his contractual obligations on War for the Planet of the Apes, filming won’t begin this year but will now likely happen in 2018. Reeve’s schedule would make sense however, now Slash Film is also reporting that there’s more to the story – the script for the Batman is being rewritten from the ground up. The outlet has multiple sources saying that the studio is looking to scrap the Ben Affleck, Geoff Johns, Chris Terrio script and begin with a page one rewrite. That is sure to put the final release date in flux as the movie still hasn’t secured an opening weekend.

THR is reporting that Warner Bros. is in negotiations to hire a new writer for Suicide Squad and have settled on Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and The Legend of Tarzan screenwriter Adam Cozad for the task. David Ayer will not be returning for the movie and will instead lead Gotham City Sirens, a movie that reteams him with Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie. There is currently no release date set for the movie but a shortlist of directors has been revealed that include Mel Gibson, 50/50’s Jonathan Levine, Life’s Daniel Espinosa and Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer.

Our time with Chris Evans’ Captain America may be coming to an end. As part of a wide-ranging cover story and interview in Esquire magazine, Evans discusses his future with Marvel and seemingly reveals that after his contract is fulfilled after the second Avengers: Infinity War, he’ll be hanging up the shield.

Pixar has released the very first trailer for Coco, a new concept that follows aspiring musician Miguel as he teams up with the charming trickster Hector on an extraordinary journey through the Land of the Dead.

Variety is reporting that real life Hollywood couple John Krasinski and Emily Blunt will co-star in their first feature film together. Krasinksi is set to rewrite and direct the Paramount/Platinum Dunes supernatural thriller A Quiet Place, marking his third directorial effort and first major studio release. Most of the plot details are under wraps, with Variety only saying that the movie is set on a farm where a supernatural being has been terrifying a family for some time.

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (February 23rd, 2017) John Campea, Jon Schnepp, Kristian Harloff, Jeremy Jahns, Natasha Martinez, and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

1) Deadpool 2 consultant added from Daredevil tv creator

2) Alien Covenant prologue released

3) Opening this week

4) Joe Carnahan is writing X-Force

5) Angelina Jolie offered Maleficent 2, lines up two new projects

6) New trailer for The Discovery starring Robert Redford

7) X-Men Continuity

8) Viola Davis

Over the past few months, original Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have been hard at work on the sequel and now thanks to a new exclusive from Collider.com, we have word of a new writer also pitching in a hand: Drew Goddard. According to the report, Ryan Reynolds is working with Goddard, with Reese and Wernick still extremely involved in the script, with Goddard added as a consultant. The move seems to show that everyone involved is hoping to get the script just right however, a release date has still not officially been announced.

20th Century Fox has released an extended prologue for Alien: Covenant that teases Ridley Scott’s Prometheus follow-up. The prologue is not actually part of the film but is a short film directed by Scott’s son Luke Scott called Prologue: Last Supper. It shows the crew of the Covenant having a “last supper” before entering cryosleep. The film stars Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, and James Franco. It opens on May 19th.

According to an exclusive report from Collider.com, Joe Carnahan is writing the new X-Force movie for 20th Century Fox. Fox is on a hot streak with their R-rated superhero movies so Carnahan’s tone seems to be a natural fit for the grittier spin on the X-Men task force. As of now, Carnahan is only writing the script for X-Force and is not currently attached to direct; with a release date yet to be determined.

After taking a bit of a break following the release of Unbroken, Angelina Jolie is lining up a series of new projects. Per THR, Jolie has acting offers that include a return for Maleficent 2 and a pair of large-scale projects at Universal: Catherine the Great and Potemkin: The Imperial Love Affair, and a World War II spy drama called The Spy Who Loved. As for directorial efforts, THR adds that Jolie is prepping an adaptation of Alessandro Baricco’s novel Without Blood.

A new trailer for The Discovery starring Robert Redford, Jason Segal and Rooney Mara has been released. The movie, which had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival last month, is the latest film from director Charlie McDowell and stars Robert Redford as a scientist who discovers a “new plane of existence” beyond our world, essentially throwing the entire population of Earth into crisis. Jason Segel plays Redford’s son and Rooney Mara plays the woman he meets after returning to his hometown. It hits Netflix on March 31, 2017.

-General Leia was to have even larger role in Episode 9; petition started to induct Princess Leia as official Disney Princess

-Thor: Ragnarok synopsis revealed

-Black Panther adds People vs OJ Simpson’s Sterling K Brown

While fans are still mourning the tragic death of Carrie Fisher, the folks at Lucasfilm are faced with the monumental task of deciding how to proceed without Fisher’s General Leia. THR reports that her character was poised to have an even bigger role in Episode 9. Director Colin Trevorrow is due to arrive in Los Angeles next week to meet with Lucasfilm to decide how to proceed. On a lighter topic, a Utah based man created a petition to make Star Wars' Leia an official Disney princess. The petition asks the Walt Disney Corporation to hold a full ceremony inducting Leia as the newest Disney princess.

Marvel and Disney released the official synopsis for their upcoming Thor: Ragnarok. What We Do in the Shadows filmmaker Taika Waititi directs the sequel which finds Chris Hemsworth’s Thor sharing the screen with Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk. How do the two characters come to be together? The new official synopsis (kind of) has the answer.

Disney and Marvel announced yesterday that The People v. O.J. Simpson’s Sterling K. Brown has been cast in Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther. The Golden Globe-nominated actor will take on the role of N’Jobu, a figure from Black Panther’s past. The movie stars Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther alongside Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger, Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia and Angela Bassett as as T’Challa’s mother, Romonda. Black Panther is scheduled to arrive in theaters on February 16, 2018.

At the press event for M. Night Shyamalan‘s Split, ComingSoon.net spoke with The Witch actress Anya Taylor-Joy where she revealed that she has seen the New Mutants animatic director Josh Boone created for the project. Taylor-Joy has long been rumored to be a part of the X-Men spin-off film, but stopped short of confirming her actual involvement. However, when pressed if she would look forward to reuniting with her Split co-star James McAvoy, Taylor-Joy did let slip that he is already a part of the movie.

In advance of the 30th anniversary of Child’s Play next year, the horror film franchise centering on the iconic Chucky doll is about to bring the Good Guy back to life. Cult of Chucky, the seventh feature, will begin principal photography on January 9th in Winnipeg, Canada. To celebrate, EW released a short teaser trailer that works as a little catch up to all the past six movies. The film will pick up where 2013’s Curse of Chucky left off; with Nica Pierce confined in an asylum for the criminally insane. The movie will be released later this year, just in time for Halloween.

Entertainment Weekly revealed a new set of images and plot details for Pixar’s Cars 3. New director Brian Fee revealed the movie will find Owen Wilson’s Lightning McQueen discovering he’s not the young hotshot anymore as he goes wheel to wheel with new villain, and high-tech racer Jackson Storm; voiced by The Social Network’s Armie Hammer.

Collider Movie Talk - Jason Bourne Teaser Trailer, Thanos Screen Time In Infinity War

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (April 21st, 2016) Kristian Harloff, Whitney Moore, and John Rocha, discuss the following:

-New Jason Bourne trailer released

-Avengers Infinity War screenwriters tease huge role for Thanos

-Golden Globes change rules for comedy/musical

-Blade Runner 2 moves release date

-Three’s Company movie in development

-New The Infiltrator trailer starring Bryan Cranston

-Opening this week

-Mail Bag

The first full trailer for Jason Bourne kicked its way online this morning, finally showing us Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne, back in action. The movie sees the return of Damon and his director Paul Greengrass, who both took a movie off after the Bourne Ultimatum while Universal tried the Bourne Legacy. Julia Stiles also reprises her role in the series alongside newcomers Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel and Tommy Lee Jones. Jason Bourne arrives in theaters July 29, 2016.

As Captain America: Civil War readies its debut in just about 2 weeks, Marvel fans are already looking ahead to the massive culmination of Phase Three that will see a two part Avengers movie in Infinity War, finally introducing the biggest baddie of them all Thanos. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have promised the scale will be much larger than previous films, and that’s because of the grand entrance of Thanos. But how much will we see of the villain, played by Josh Brolin? The screenwriters of the movie, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have promised Thanos will be getting plenty of screen time.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association yesterday announced a couple of rule changes for their next awards, with one in particular appearing to be the direct result of the backlash aimed at this year’s winner for Best Comedy or Musical in The Martian. In an article posted by EW, the new HFPA guidelines says that all dramas with comedic overtones should be entered as dramas.”

Back a couple months it was reported that Blade Runner 2 was getting the questionable release date of January 12, 2018 to debut the long awaited sequel that would see the return of Harrison Ford’s Rick Deckard along with a new costar in Ryan Gosling. With January deemed the dumping ground for movies, it seemed like Blade Runner 2 would be buried before it even got a chance to find its audience. But it looks like Alcon Entertainment has remedied that problem announcing yesterday that it will move the release date to a more, audience friendly, October 6, 2017.

THR is reporting that New Line is currently in negotiations to pick up the rights to the 70s/80s TV sitcom Three’s Company with He’s Just Not That Into You screenwriters Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein writing up the adaptation. Sources for THR reveals they plan to set the movie in the 70s with veteran producer Robert Cort shepherding the project.

A new trailer has been released for The Infiltrator starring Bryan Cranston, who jumps to the other side of the drug game as Federal agent Robert Mazur in the true story about his efforts to infiltrate one of the biggest drug trafficking rings of all time. The real Mazur spent five years undercover as a money launderer, learning the hierarchy of the drug underworld while gaining intel that would result in the indictments of 85 drug lords and their corrupt banks.
