In a new report from CNBC, talks between Fox and Disney are back on and have moved far enough along that it looks as though a deal is in sight and could be announced as early as next week. As previously reported, the assets for which 21st Century Fox are looking to sell off include the film studio properties like X-Men, Deadpool and Fantastic Four, along with their tv properties and non-broadcast TV parts including FX and National Geographic – reportedly worth $60 billion dollars.

During the press event for Star Wars The Last Jedi, Mashable was able to speak with director Rian Johnson about his plans for his new trilogy of films set outside the Skywalker Saga. The outlet specifically asked about a certain property fans are hoping to see onscreen – that of an adaptation of the popular video game Knights of the Old Republic.

Ahead of the first trailer that will be dropping Thursday night, EW has revealed new plot details for the Jurassic World sequel: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The follow up sees the return of Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing, in a story that will be set several years after the events of Jurassic World.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Edgar Wright confirmed that Sony is looking to do a Baby Driver sequel; with talks already in the works to make something happen. While Wright has a number of projects in the works, he doesn’t yet know which project of his he’ll tackle first.

Just ten days before John Travolta’s John Gotti biopic was set to open, Lionsgate has abruptly cut ties with the movie and sold the finished film back to producers. According to the Tracking Board, the producers for Gotti are expected to seek a new distribution deal for the movie, with the planned release date of December 15th now looking to be impossible to hit.

Just as news broke that Fox had halted production on the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, THR is now reporting that director Bryan Singer has been fired from the production. The trade details a long list of reasons that include clashes between him and his Freddie Mercury actor Rami Malek, absences from the set that would force cinematographer Thomas Newton Sigel to step in and direct; and actor Tom Hollander, who plays Queen manager Jim Beach, is said to have briefly quit the film because of the director’s behavior, but was persuaded to return.

With Star Wars The Last Jedi ready to debut in theatres next Friday, director Rian Johnson is now making the press rounds on the promotional tour. Not surprising, The Last Jedi talk soon turned to his new trilogy of films separate from the Saga, which is said to be a whole new story with characters we’ve yet to meet. Collider’s own Steve Weintraub spoke to Johnson about the new trilogy and asked if he’d like to direct all three movies.

OPENING THIS WEEK

Speaking at the recent Heroes & Villains convention in San Jose, CA - Shazam himself, Zachary Levi, talked a bit about the upcoming adaptation, revealing that he thinks the movie could surprise audiences in the same way Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy did.

In a report from Deadline, James Franco is in talks to direct and star in a film about children’s book author Shel Silverstein. Writers Chris Shafer and Paul Vicknair will pen the adaptation based on Lisa Rogak’s book “A Boy Named Shel.” Silverstein, a poet, singer, songwriter, and screenwriter, has seen his work translated into more than 30 languages, selling over 20 million copies in total.

Walt Disney Studios announced yesterday that the company has officially passed the $5 billion mark at the annual global box office, marking the third year in a row to do so and the first and only time a studio has reached the threshold three times.

As part of an in-depth profile on screenwriter/director Aaron Sorkin, THR revealed that his Lucille Ball biopic, tentatively titled Lucy and Desi, will take place against the backdrop of a single production week on the television series I Love Lucy.

THR reports that Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment’s Hellboy reboot has officially been dated for January 11, 2019, missing the 25th anniversary of the Mike Mignola created comic book by about a year.

According to THR, Fox is developing an adaptation of the book Crenshaw, with Logan director James Mangold signing on to direct. The children's book by Newbery-winning author Katherine Applegate tells the story of Jackson, a young boy whose family has fallen on hard times, at which point his imaginary friend — a giant cat named Crenshaw — comes back in to Jackson's life to offer some help.

A new trailer has been released for Paddington 2. The sequel follows the adorable Paddington working odd jobs to make enough money to buy an antique pop-up book for his Aunt Lucy.

After allegations of abuse by Johnny Depp against Amber Heard that led to a very famous and public divorce, many have been calling for the character he plays in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, that of the dark wizard Grindelwald, to be recast. Now, speaking with EW about the sequel Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Yates has come to Depp’s defense, explaining why the role won’t be recast.

20th Century Fox has released the first Love, Simon trailer. Based on Becky Albertalli’s novel, the film follows seventeen-year-old Simon Spier, played by Nick Robinson, who is currently grappling with how to tell his family and friends that he’s gay. On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Tuesday November 28th, 2017) Mark Ellis, Jon Schnepp, Perri Nemiroff, Ashley Mova discuss the following:

2) James Cameron Says if ‘Avatar’ 2 & 3 Flop There Won’t Be ‘Avatar’ 4 & 5

3) Opening This Week – The Disaster Artist

In a sprawling profile in Vanity Fair about the 10-year anniversary of Marvel Studios, the magazine revealed that after the conclusion of Avengers 4, “at least some of the original characters who sit at the center of the billion-dollar Avengers team will be hanging up their capes and shields.” Head honcho Kevin Feige also teased what’s to come after Avengers 4, saying they have about 20 completely different Marvel movies in development, with Avengers 4 acting as the “Finale” to the MCU as we know it.

While production has already begun on James Cameron’s Avatar 2 and Avatar 3, the director recently revealed to Vanity Fair that if parts 2 and 3 don’t do well at the box office, then Fox will not move forward on parts 4 and 5.

OPENING THIS WEEK

In 2003, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World earned 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for Peter Weird, and scored two wins for Best Cinematography and Sound Editing. But against a budget of $150 million, the film only made $212 million at the box office, making its sequel prospects unlikely. Now, 15 years later, Russell Crowe has taken to his Twitter account saying a Master and Commander sequel may actually be happening.

While it’s very hard to score a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s not impossible. In the history of the aggregator site, only one movie has scored a perfect 100 and that was Toy Story 2, with 163 reviews certified fresh. But now, we have a new champion and it comes in the form of Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird. The film now has 164 reviews, all of them “Fresh”, giving the film a 100% Fresh rating, as well as crowning it the best reviewed movie of all time.
