Taking to Facebook yesterday, writer/director James Gunn will return for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as both writer and director.

At this past weekend’s Star Wars Celebrations, several actors from the Star Wars movies took to the stage to celebrate 40 Years of Star Wars. They included notables like Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill as well as returning new characters like Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. Even actors from the prequel era who couldn’t be in attendance sent in a videotaped greeting which included Qui-Gon Jinn’s Liam Neeson and Mace Windu’s Samuel L Jackson. But one actor noticeably absent was none other than Obi-Wan Kenobi himself, Ewan McGregor.

Game of Thrones actor Michael McElhatton has confirmed to Red Carpet News that he has a role in director Zack Snyder’s upcoming Justice League. McElhatton is best known for his role as Roose Bolton on HBO’s epic fantasy series and joins fellow Game of Thrones’ actor Ciaran Hinds - who plays the villain Steppenwolf.

Variety is reporting that Matrix and Lord of the Rings star Hugo Weaving has reunited with his director Peter Jackson in Mortal Engines, the new fantasy adaptation Jackson is writing and producing. Weaving joins already cast Hera Hilmar, Robbie Sheehan, Ronan Rafterty, and Stephen Lang, with Christian Rivers directing.

After years of stops and starts with different filmmaker and actors, Warner Bros. is finally rolling on a remake of A Star Is Born. Filming has now officially begun with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga - AKA Stefanie Germanotta - her real name. To mark the occasion, the production has released its first image from the movie. Cooper makes his directorial debut while also acting in the movie as Jackson Maine, a country music star who discovers a talented unknown named Ally played by Germanotta.

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (April 17th, 2017) John Campea, Mark Ellis, Jeremy Jahns, Kristian Harloff, Ashley Mova and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

1) Carrie Fisher will not be in Star Wars Episode IX after all

2) Bill Condon in talks to direct Bride of Frankenstein

3) Box Office Report

4) The Man From UNCLE sequel in the works

5) Kathleen Kennedy teases Skywalker saga continuing after Episode 9

During a new interview with ABC during Star Wars Celebration this past weekend, Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy revealed that Carrie Fisher will make her final bow as General Leia Organa in the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The news comes just as Fisher’s brother Todd Fisher said they would use footage of Carrie from the last two movies in the series to fill in Episode 9.

Deadline is reporting that Beauty and the Beast director Bill Condon is in early talks to helm the remake of The Bride of Frankenstein for Universal Pictures’ monster universe. Condon has said in many interviews that the property is one of his favorites, with Condon even including a sort of homage to the James Whale film in the climax of his Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.

It’s Monday which means it’s time for the weekend box office. With an estimated $100.2 million domestic and a massive $432.3 million from 63 international markets, The Fate of The Furious took the No 1 spot at the weekend box office with $532.5 million worldwide, beating the all time global opening previously held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ $529 million. The Boss Baby took the No 2 spot with $15.5 million with Beauty and the Beast taking the No 3 spot with $13.6 million domestic. Beauty and the Beast also added $22 million internationally as its worldwide total climbs to $1.043 billion. Smurfs: The Lost Village finished in the No 4 spot with an estimated $6.5 million as it dropped 51% in its second weekend with a domestic total now standing at $24.7 million. And rounding out the top five is WB's Going in Style, bringing in an estimated $6.35 million with a domestic total now at $23.3 million.

In a new interview with Slash Film for the release of Free Fire, star Armie Hammer revealed that a Man From U.N.C.L.E. sequel is currently being written by the original film’s co-writer. Producer Lionel Wigram responded to Hammer’s query about a sequel, confirming one was being written; with Hammer saying he is asked over and over again about a follow up.

While the development of the next Star Wars films remains a mystery, one thing we do know is that Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi and Colin Trevorrow’s Episode 9 will continue the tale of the Skywalker saga. But what will happen after Episode 9 and will Lucasfilm continue the Skywalker saga in possible Episodes 10, 11, and 12?

A second trailer has been released for Ana Lily Amirpour’s sophomore effort The Bad Batch. The movie features Arlen played by Suki Waterhouse alongside Jason Momoa, Keanu Reeves, Jim Carrey and Giovanni Ribisi, and is described as a psychedelic dystopian love story with cannibals.

3) New redband trailer released for The Hitman’s Bodyguard starring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L Jackson

4) Animated Spider-Man movies finds its Mile Morales; Liev Schreiber to voice villain

The very first trailer for Star Wars The Last Jedi hit this morning, fresh off its debut showing at Star Wars Celebrations in Orlando. Having taken her first steps into a larger world in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rey continues her epic journey with Finn, Poe and Luke Skywalker in the next chapter of the saga.

Deadline is reporting that TriStar pictures has set Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez to direct a sequel to Labyrinth; the cult favorite film that co-starred a young Jennifer Connolly alongside David Bowie. Alvarez and Jay Basu will co-write the story, with Basu penning the script. The duo will take on that project after Alvarez directs the script he wrote with Basu for The Girl in the Spider’s Web, Sony’s continuation of the Lisbeth Salander saga they began with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Lionsgate has unveiled the first red-band trailer for the action comedy The Hitman’s Bodyguard starring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L Jackson. The film stars Reynolds as the world’s top protection agent, a man who is tasked with serving as the bodyguard for his mortal enemy, a notorious assassin played by Samuel L. Jackson.

THR is reporting that Dope breakout star Shameik Moore has been cast as the voice of Mile Morales in Sony’s upcoming animated movie Spider-Man. The project doesn’t spotlight Peter Parker as the web-head this time around but will instead feature Miles, the popular incarnation introduced in 2011 who is half black and half Latino. Also joining the production is Ray Donovan star Liev Schreiber who will voice the movie's villain; though the character's identity is being kept under wraps.

According to Deadline, Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is currently tracking for a huge $150 million dollar opening weekend, with the report further breaking down that the movie is at an 88% awareness among audiences – which should continue to grow even stronger as Marvel continues its marketing campaign. Deadline also states that since the movie is only three weeks out, the figure could be on the lower end, with some industry experts estimating it could even surpass Captain America: Civil War’s $179.1 million opening from May of last year.

According to a report from Jeff Sneider at The Tracking Board, a sequel to Eddie Murphy’s classic 1988 comedy Coming to America is confirmed and moving forward at Paramount, hiring original writers Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield to pen the script. Murphy recently teased a sequel on his Twitter feed before removing the tweet (and his account) when he claimed the account had been hacked.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Josh Brolin has been cast in the role of Cable opposite Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 2. The production has been looking to find the right actor for the role for many, many months now, with reports saying Stranger Things’ David Harbour, Michael Shannon and even Brad Pitt were up for the role. With Brolin on board, the actor has officially snagged his second Marvel Comics character – the first being of course Thanos, who will finally appear in the Marvel Studios’ Avengers Infinity War. Additionally, sources for THR say that Brolin has a four-picture deal for the part including Deadpool 2 which likely means he will also be locked to play the character in the upcoming X-Force movie. There is still no release date set for Deadpool 2.

Annapurna Pictures has unveiled the very first trailer for Oscar-winner and Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow’s highly anticipated new film entitled Detroit. Scripted by Hurt Locker’s Mark Boal, the crime drama is set against the backdrop of the Detroit riots of 1967, which were initiated by a police raid of an unlicensed bar in the city’s Near West Side. Confrontations quickly turned violent resulting in the deaths of 39 people and leaving hundreds wounded as the riots lasted for five days. The ensemble cast also includes John Boyega, Anthony Mackie, John Krasinski, and Will Poulter. It opens in theaters on August 4th.

THR reports that Dolph Lundgren is making a return to studio movies, joining the cast of James Wan’s Aquaman alongside Jason Momoa. Lundgren will play King Nereus of the aquatic kingdom Xebel; claiming Aquaman’s Queen Mera as his own while also wanting to kill him. The movie is set for release on December 21st, 2018.

According to THR, Edgar Wright’s next movie he’ll direct will be an adaptation of Andrew Smith’s outlandish sounding novel entitled Grasshopper Jungle; with New Regency is final negotiations to pick up the project to distribute. Grasshopper Jungle will team Wright with the creative teams behind the upcoming Venom and Jumanji movies - screenwriter Scott Rosenberg and producer Matt Tolmach. The book to movie adaptation will follow a teenage boy dealing with sexual confusion who accidentally unleashes an apocalyptic, genetically engineered plague on the world that brings about six-foot-tall praying mantises with insatiable appetites for food and sex. Yes. You heard that right. A release date has not been determined.

Warner Bros. and DC Films have debuted a new poster for Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash and Ray Fisher as Cyborg – who all appear front and center in the team-up image. Justice League is set to be released in theatres on November 17th, 2017.

3) New international trailer released for Baby Driver

Paramount Pictures has released a new trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight, the fifth film in the Transformers franchise. Directed by Michael Bay, the trailer expands on its mythology of the Transformers universe by introducing more footage from its medieval backstory with King Arthur and his Knights of the Roundtable seemingly working with ancient transformers. The trailer also introduces more of a rogue Optimus Prime who is going against his fellow Autobots in order to save his own world. Mark Wahlberg reprises his role from Transformers: Age of Extinction who will be joined by newcomer Isabela Moner, along with Anthony Hopkins, Stanley Tucci, John Goodman, John Turturro and Josh Duhamel. Transformers The Last Knight opens in theatres on June 23, 2017.

In a new interview with MTV, Dwayne Johnson was doing the press rounds for the upcoming Fate of the Furious when talk turned to his upcoming role as Black Adam in the DCEU. Last January a report surfaced that Warner Bros. was considering splitting Shazam into two movies—one focusing on Black Adam, and one focusing on Shazam. In the interview The Rock confirmed that was indeed the case.

Sony has released a new trailer for Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver. The film stars Ansel Elgort as Baby, a getaway driver who suffers from a hearing impairment that requires him to listen to music in order to drown out the humming noise. When he falls for a local waitress played by Lily James, he sees the chance to break free of his life of crime, but first must make a getaway from crime boss played by Kevin Spacey. The film opens June 28th and also stars Jon Bernthal, Eiza González, Jon Hamm, and Jamie Foxx.

Universal Pictures has unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming Charlize Theron action movie: Atomic Blonde. Directed by John Wick co-director (and future Deadpool 2 helmer) David Leitch, the movie finds Theron as a lethal MI6 assassin who is sent to Berlin to deliver a dossier, only to become caught up in a web of espionage and intrigue that’s as complex as it is deadly. The film also stars Sofia Boutella, James McAvoy, John Goodman, Eddie Marsan, and Toby Jones. Atomic Blonde opens in theaters on July 28th.

We’re less than a month away from the release of Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, which means Disney is getting aggressive with its marketing campaign. Proving that comes yet another TV spot for the movie directed by James Gunn that focuses on siblings Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Nebula (Karen Gillan), as Nebula takes on a larger role in this follow-up film. The film also stars Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Kurt Russell, Michael Rooker, Elizabeth Debicki, and Pom Klementieff. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens in theaters on May 5th.

Our very own Perri Nemiroff was able to sit down for an all-encompassing interview with Guillermo del Toro for the newly returned Collider Nightmares hosted by Clarke Wolfe, when during the chat, the Hellboy and Pacific Rim director revealed he had a general ‘Star Wars’ meeting with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and Industrial Light and Magic’s Chief Creative Officer John Knoll. Del Toro was very cautious with his words because of the way a Star Wars headline can be created over one comment, but he did finally relent with some details, stressing there isn’t any deals or active negotiations in place

We didn’t get to see Steppenwolf in action in the first trailer for justice League, nor is he featured in any of the promotional materials, but that hasn’t stopped Game of Thrones actor Ciaran Hinds from shedding a bit of light on what we might expect from the character once he pops up onscreen. In a new interview with Independent UK, Hinds briefly teased the villain’s goal in Justice League.

Deadline reports that The Walking Dead‘s Jeffrey Dean Morgan has signed on to join Dwayne Johnson in the New Line monster movie Rampage. He joins a cast that includes Moonlight‘s Naomie Harris, Malin Akerman and Joe Manganiello. Morgan will play Agent Russell, who works for a covert government division called OGA and rolls with a “serious swagger and attitude.”

Lionsgate has released a new trailer for the upcoming All Eyez on Me; the movie based on the life of rapper Tupac Shakur. The film tells the true and “untold” story of Shakur from his early days in New York City to his evolution into the world’s most recognized and influential voices before his untimely death at the age of 25.

Bad news for fans of Arnold Schwarzenegger who were hoping to see him in Expendables 4 and, even more so, return to the Predator franchise. Just as it was reported that Sylvester Stallone had exited Expendables 4 over creative differences, Arnold confirmed he would also pass unless Sly was on board. Speaking with EW, Arnold said “There is no Expendables without Sly,” and that he would never do the movie without him. As for The Predator, which has a new version currently filming, and helmed by The Nice Guys’ director Shane Black.

Paramount Pictures has released a new featurette for the upcoming Transformers: The Last Knight, featuring Michael Bay talking about the process of shooting native IMAX 3D and of course, blowing stuff up.

In an exclusive interview with Collider’s own Perri Nemiroff, that appeared in the recent airing of Collider Nightmares, director Guillermo del Toro revealed why he didn’t return to direct Pacific Rim: Uprising, the sequel to the 2013’s Pacific Rim.

Lionsgate has released an announcement video for My Little Pony: The Movie. Featuring the voices of Emily Blunt, Kristin Chenoweth, Liev Schreiber, Michael Peña, Sia, Taye Diggs, Uzo Aduba, and Zoe Saldana, with an original song performed by Sia.
