On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Monday November 13th, 2017) Mark Ellis, Kristian Harloff, Jon Schnepp, Ashley Mova discuss the following:

1) Rumor: Gal Gadot Refuses to Return for ‘Wonder Woman 2’ Unless WB Cuts Brett Ratner

2) ‘All the Money in the World’ Reshoots Will Cost Millions

3) Box Office Report

4) First trailer released for Hostiles starring Christian Bale

5) ‘Metal Gear Solid’ Movie Lands ‘Kong: Skull Island’ Co-Writer Derek Connolly

7) Live Twitter Questions

1) If a new report is to be believed from Page Six, Gal Gadot is refusing to return for Wonder Woman 2 unless Brett Ratner and his RatPac-Dune Entertainment production company are removed from the follow-up. Warner Bros. announced a December 2019 release date for Wonder Woman 2 this fall, with director Patty Jenkins finally closing her deal to return as well. At this time, the validity of the report is unclear as Gadot was already contracted to return for a Wonder Woman sequel, though she could certainly fight to get out of the contract if WB refuses to remove Ratner.

According to a report from Variety, after director Ridley Scott, Imperative Entertainment, and Sony Pictures decided to replace Kevin Spacey with Christopher Plummer in the upcoming All the Money in the World, experts are telling the trade that the reported cost will be at least $2.5 million.

Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures has released the first trailer for Hostiles. The new film from Black Mass director Scott Cooper takes place in 1882 and follows an Army captain (Christian Bale) who is forced to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief (Wes Studi) and his family back home to their tribal lands across hostile territory.

Variety reports that the Jurassic World and Kong: Skull Island screenwriter Derek Connolly has come on board to write Sony’s big-screen adaptation of Metal Gear Solid. He reunites with his Kong Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who’s attached to helm the movie, though a release date has not yet been determined.

Yesterday, Lucasfilm announced that Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has come on board to create a whole new Star Wars trilogy of films, for which he will write and direct the first installment. The new movies will be separate from the continuing Skywalker saga where Johnson will introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars has never explored before.

2) Back in July, it was reported that a short list of directors had been compiled for the 25th movie in the James Bond franchise. Among the leading contenders were Blade Runner 2049’s Denis Villeneuve, 71 director Yann Demange, and Hell or High Water director David Mackenzie. Speaking to The Playlist, Denis Villeneuve went on record to say that he is interested in Bond 25 but his adaptation of Dune is his only priority at the moment.

Collider.com exclusively revealed the first official poster for Deadpool 2, which was soon followed by Ryan Reynolds debuting another poster and magazine on his Twitter account. The first poster is a play on a Norman Rockwell painting as it brings all the major characters together at the Thanksgiving dinner table, while the second is a riff on a Good Housekeeping magazine cover.

A new set of character posters have been revealed for Marvel and Ryan Coogler’s upcoming Black Panther. The MCU entry will follow T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king.

Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have released the first trailer for the upcoming action-comedy Game Night. Directed by Vacation helmers and Spider-Man: Homecoming co-writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the film stars Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams as a couple whose weekly game night goes off the rails when Bateman’s brother (played by Kyle Chandler) arranges a murder mystery party that quickly gets out of hand.

According to The Wrap, it looks as though Suicide Squad 2 could be the movie that will serve as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s introduction to the DC Universe. The trade reports that the current plan for the sequel is for the members of Suicide Squad to be tasked with tracking down a weapon of mass destruction – a weapon that happens to be Black Adam himself - the villain best known in DC Comics as the main nemesis of Shazam. Suicide Squad 2 is reported to be going into production in October 2018 however, a release date has not been announced.

THR reports that investors for Alcon entertainment’s Blade Runner 2049 are facing close to $80 million in losses after the $155 budgeted film failed to ignite the box office. It’s distribution arm at Sony however, is ultimately expected to recoup its $110 million investment because of the agreement brokered by Sony Motion Picture Group chairman Tom Rothman. On the eve of the film’s Oct. 6 debut, Alcon founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson told The Hollywood Reporter that the movie would need to earn $400 million globally to “be a win” and so far the movie has only pulled in $240.8 million worldwide after more than four weeks in theatres.

As production continues on M. Night Shyamalan’s highly-anticipated Glass, the upcoming film that is a sequel to both Unbreakable and Split, the first set photos have landed online featuring Samuel L. Jackson’s character Elijah Price, aka Mr. Glass. The movie will reteam Jackson with his Unbreakable co-star Bruce Willis, alongside returning members from Split in James McAvoy and Anya Taylor-Joy. Glass is set for release on January 18, 2019.

Variety reports that after a small bidding war, Fox has bought the spec script Crater by John J. Griffin with Shawn Levy in talks to direct and produce through his with 21 Laps production banner. Described as a coming-of-age story in the vein of Stand By Me, Crater is set on a moon colony and, after the death of his father.

1) Disney Ends Ban on Los Angeles Times Amid Backlash

2) Jason Momoa reveals Justice League will have post credits scene

Amid the growing backlash directed at the Walt Disney Company over their decision to bar The Los Angeles Times from their upcoming press screenings, the New York Times revealed Tuesday that Disney finally blinked and reversed its decision on the matter. This after a growing list of publications joined in the cause to support The Times - including members of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, the New York Film Critics Circle, the Boston Society of Film Critics and the National Society of Film Critics.

In a new interview with Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa revealed that Justice League will have a post credit sequence, marking the second film in the DCEU after Suicide Squad to tack on an extra tease at the end.  Speaking to BBC Radio 2 during a press event for Justice League and asked about a post credit scene, Momoa said: “They do [have to watch right through the end]. You gotta sit through the whole thing, go through the credits.”

Ben Affleck has played The Caped Crusader twice now in Batman v Superman and in the upcoming Justice League - three times if you count his appearance in Suicide Squad. After November 17th fans hope he will stay on for many more appearances including in the Matt Reeves directed stand-alone. But in a new interview with Extra, Affleck again threw some doubt about his future as the Batman when he was asked if he would aim to be a "five timer" Batman. His response was simple: “I don't know about that. We'll see what the future holds.”

After its recent world premiere in Mexico, Pixar’s Coco is gearing up for its international rollout for all audiences and to celebrate, Disney has released the final trailer for the movie. The film is about aspiring musician Miguel (voiced by Anthony Gonzalez) who teams up with a charming trickster Héctor (voiced by Gael García Bernal) to embark on an extraordinary journey through the Land of the Dead.

Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for the upcoming animated film Sherlock Gnomes. The film is a sequel to 2011’s Gnomeo & Juliet and finds the title characters, voiced by James McAvoy and Emily Blunt, recruiting Sherlock Gnomes, voiced by Johnny Depp, to help investigate a mysterious disappearance.

1) Disney having preliminary talks to buy 20th Century Fox tv and movie properties

2) Justice League runtime mandated by WB CEO

3) Opening This Week

4) Jessica Chastain interested in playing adult Bev in IT Chapter Two

5) 'Shazam!' casts Asher Angel as Billy Baston

Coming from a report at CNBC, it looks as though Disney is looking to expand its already impressive slate of film and television IPs by holding preliminary talks with 20th Century Fox to buy their film and tv properties; meaning X-Men, Deadpool and Fantastic Four could conceivably fall under the Marvel umbrella of films should the deal make. The report notes that this is very early on in the process, with CNBC noting that the two studios are not talking at the moment.

In a new report from The Wall Street Journal, the 1 hour and 59 minute runtime of Justice League was no accident and actually a mandate set forth by WB CEO Kevin Tsujihara after Batman v Superman’s critical reaction (and runtime itself at 151-minutes).  The report notes that a lot of the post-production work was spent melding the tones of Whedon and Snyder’s work into one seamless movie; and while early cuts failed to achieve the right combination, audience scores over the later cuts reportedly mirror how Wonder Woman scored.

OPENING THIS WEEK

In a new interview with Jessica Chastain about her role in the upcoming Molly’s Game, Screenrant asked the actress if she would be interested in playing the adult version of the fan favorite character of Beverly Marsh in 2019’s follow up to the highest grossing horror movie of all time IT.

THR reports that Disney star Asher Angel has signed on to play Billy Baston in Shazam. The DC superhero story centers on a boy named Billy Batson who can transform into an adult superhero by uttering the magic word Shazam! Angel plays Jonah Beck, the love interest for Mack on Disney’s Andi Mack; and will be joining already cast Zachary Levi, Mark Strong and Grace Fulton in the David F Sandberg directed film.

After it was reported that Quentin Tarantino was leaving The Weinstein company and showing his script to major studios to bid on distribution for his Charles Manson centered script, Deadline is now reporting that the “Manson” movie is like calling Inglourious Basterds an Adolf Hitler movie. Instead, the movie is a drama best compared to Pulp Fiction and set in late 1960s or early 1970s Los Angeles, involving the Manson murders but with a twist, yet to be revealed.

The ongoing feud between Tyrese Gibson and the Rock continues but this time, Gibson has threatened to drop out of Fast 9 should Dwayne Johnson sign on. According to a report from The Wrap, Mark Strong is in talks to play DC Comics villain Doctor Sivana in New Line’s Shazam. Known as Shazam’s archenemy and most frequent foe, in the most recent run of DC Comics’ the New 52 that Shazam is loosely based on, Sivana is depicted as a respected scientist desperate to save his family from an unknown plight.

In a new report from The Wall Street journal, it looks as though Disney's conditions for theaters screening Star Wars: The Last Jedi include some unprecedented demands that are causing some theatres to question the arrangement. The report details that Disney is now requiring 65 percent of the revenue from ticket sales, up from 64 percent for The Force Awakens and Rogue One.

A24 has released a new trailer for The Disaster Artist. Directed by James Franco and written by (500) Days of Summer’s Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, the film follows the making of Tommy Wiseau’s The Room, the infamous cult film that’s frequently called the worst movie ever made.
