On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Wednesday, May 17th, 2017) John Campea, Jon Schnepp, Mark Ellis, Kristian Harloff, Ashley Mova and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

1) Robert Zemeckis, Matthew Vaughn and Sam Raimie frontrunners to helm The Flash

2) Zac Effron to play Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile

3) First trailer released for Battle of the Sexes starring Emma Stone and Steve Carrell

4) Power Rangers’ Ludi Lin joins Aquaman

5) Predator set photo reveals Predator on tank

6) Hackers holding Disney’s Pirates Of The Caribbean for ransom

7) Mail Bag

8) Live Twitter Questions

Yesterday brought news that Robert Zemeckis, Matthew Vaughn and Sam Raimi are on the shortlist to direct The Flash for Warner Bros and DC Films. The Wrap claimed Robert Zemeckis is the frontrunner for the gig, followed soon after by Variety who added Kingsman helmer Matthew Vaughnn into the mix. THR soon followed adding Raimi to the other two, saying all three are being seriously considered. Both THR and The Wrap, however, are saying Zemeckis is the leading contender at this time; as originally reported by Screen Junkies.

According to THR, Zac Effron has signed on to star as infamous serial killer Ted Bundy in a film entitled Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. The movie will be directed by Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Joe Berlinger; which will tell the story of Bundy, told through the perspective of Elizabeth Kloepfer, Bundy's longtime girlfriend, who went years denying the accusations against Bundy but ultimately turned him in to the police.

Fox Searchlight has released the first trailer for Battle of the Sexes, the new movie from the directors of Little Miss Sunshine: Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. Based on a true story, the movie stars Emma Stone as Billie Jean King and Steve Carell as Bobby Riggs, and focuses on their 1973 tennis match when King was No 1 and Riggs was a retired champ and serial hustler – which became one of the most-watched televised sporting events of all time.

Deadline is reporting that Power Rangers’ actor Ludi Lin has been cast in the James Wan directed Aquaman. Lin will play Murk, a trusted ally of Jason Momoa’s character and the leader of the Men-of-War - the front-line army of Atlantis. The role marks the first major casting for Lin since Power Rangers, which bowed in theaters back in March.

In a new Instagram post, photographer Jarrod Au captured our first look at not one, but two Predators on-set in the latest Shane Black retelling of The Predator. One of the Predators is seen inside a tank facing frontwards with the other riding atop with cast members Trevante Rhodes, Keegan-Michael Key and Thomas Jane along for the ride. The project is aiming for an R rating and reportedly remains in the continuity of the first two movies.

Deadline reports that hackers have allegedly stolen and have in their possession a copy of Disney’s upcoming Johnny Depp film Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The hackers are seeking a ransom payment in Bitcoin from the studio, and will release the movie online if Disney doesn’t pay. CEO Bob Iger did not reveal which movie the ransom hackers claimed to have at the time but Deadline learned that it was, indeed, Jerry Bruckheimer’s fifth movie in the Pirates franchise. Disney is currently working with the FBI and will not pay the ransom.

20th Century Fox has released the final War for the Planet of the Apes trailer online. Director Matt Reeves returns for the follow-up, which picks up a few years after the events of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, where an all-out war between the humans and the apes is underway. Caesar, played by Andy Serkis, sets out to exact revenge against The Colonel, played by Woody Harrelson, who has amassed a massive human army at a compound deep in the snow.

Writer/director Joss Whedon’s Batgirl could be the next DC female superhero movie to hit theaters following director Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman; this according to Deborah Snyder, co-founder of Cruel and Unusual Films and the producer of the DCEU movies. In a series of tweets from people in attendance at the Wonder Woman Chinese Premiere red carpet event, Deborah Snyder said Whedon’s Batgirl will reach theaters before a potential Wonder Woman sequel.

According to Deadline, Blake Lively has signed on to star in Bruised, a mixed martial arts action-drama directed by The Notebook and My Sister’s Keeper helmer Nick Cassavetes. Lively will play Jackie, a single mother working two jobs and a disgraced MMA fighter who has been up against the ropes her entire life. When the authorities threaten to take her young son away from her, she must get back in the cage for one last chance to fight for redemption and give her son the life she always wanted.

The big push for Wonder Woman is just beginning, but now it seems Warner Bros is already developing a follow up to their first female-led superhero film. In a report via Slash Film, Arthur Wong was in attendance at the Shanghai press event for Wonder Woman when Zack Snyder revealed on the red carpet for the event that WB and DC Films are already planning a sequel.

THR is reporting that The Crown star Claire Foy is Sony’s top choice to play hacker Lisbeth Salander in its adaptation of The Girl in the Spider's Web; a relaunch of the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo franchise that has Don’t Breath helmer Fede Alvarez attached to direct. The studio has been on the hunt for a new actress to take on the role, with sources for THR saying the finalists came down to Foy and Felicity Jones.

Universal Pictures has unveiled a new behind-the-scenes featurette for The Mummy, and it gives us a better look at Russell Crowe’s Dr. Jekyll character while also revealing his other, more sinister side with Mr. Hyde.

THR is reporting that Split and The Witch’s Anya Taylor-Joy and Games of Thrones’ Maisie Williams have signed on to star in Josh Boone’s X-Men spin-off New Mutants. The movie is headed towards an early July start with a script by Boone and his writing partner, Knate Gwaltney. The movie will focus on the adventures of a group of mutant teens that include Danielle Moonstar, Wolfsbane, Sunspot, Cannonball and Magik’ along with an alien named Warlock. Taylor-Joy will play Magik, a girl who has learned sorcery and uses teleportation discs to travel while Williams will play Wolfsbane, a girl struggling to reconcile her religious beliefs as her powers of turning into a wolf develop. The movie is dated for an April 13, 2018 release.

As we gear up for the release of Wonder Woman, fans of Diana Prince’s big screen debut are now turning to early box office tracking hoping that the first female driven superhero movie is a box office hit. Both THR and Deadline are reporting a $65 million debut, with some industry experts saying it could likely climb to $75 million closer to release. The Wrap is also saying a majority of “independent trackers” have it in the $65 million range, noting one outlying service projecting a whopping $105 million debut. We won’t have long to wait to find out how it does in theatres when Wonder Woman debuts on June 2nd.

20th Century Fox has revealed a new Alien: Covenant clip featuring Demian Bichir’s character’s first encounter with a facehugger. Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created with this new chapter in the Alien franchise that stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir and James Franco. The marketing is now kicking into high gear as the movie readies its theatrical debut a week from today on May 19th.

Bloom and the Fyzz Facility Pictures announced Thursday that the long delayed sequel to The Strangers 2 has finally found its cast, adding Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks to star alongside Bailee Madison and Lewis Pullman. The announcement comes nine years after the original The Strangers hit theatres in 2008, picking up where Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman’s original left off. The story will see Hendricks and her family terrorized by three masked figures at an abandoned trailer park during a cross-country road trip gone wrong.

Paramount has released one final red band trailer for its big screen reboot of Baywatch. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Zac Efron lead the cast of the new movie based on the original show that ran between 1989 and 2001 that starred David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson. The trailer showcases some of the new action and fight scenes that will be center of the movie along with the crude humor that makes it a solid R Rated flick.

Deadline is reporting 12 Years A Slave helmer Steve McQueen will direct a full length feature documentary on the life of iconic hip hop star Tupac Shakur. McQueen, who won the Oscar for the Best Picture winner 12 Years A Slave will direct and Jayson Jackson will produce with Nigel Sinclair, the man behind a number of music documentaries including the most recent The Beatles: Eight Days A Week–The Touring Years. No word yet on a start of production or release.

It looks as though Ridley Scott has no plans of slowing down with his Alien movies. The sequel to Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, hasn’t even hit theatres yet and now comes word from Scott is working on the screenplay and plan to head into production next year. Speaking with IGN, Scott teased work on the script is ongoing and has been so for a while now, revealing as well that the plan to start filming the Covenant sequel will begin within 14 months.

According to a report from Indiewire, filming is slated to begin this August for Martin Scorsese’s ambitious new Netflix project – The Irishman. It was last reported that the property was headed for legal troubles over who controlled the distribution rights to the story but now it seems the producers have worked out a deal to move forward, with Netflix planning a day-and-date release in 2019 along with an awards-qualifying run. The movie will star Robert DeNiro, who will also be de-aged to play a 30 year old Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran, alongside Al Pacino as Jimmy Hoffa.

As audiences gear up to check out Kingsman: The Golden Circle later this year, writer/director Matthew Vaughn is already thinking about a third film in the franchise. Vaughn showcased some footage from The Golden Circle to a group of reporters in London recently as part of a 20th Century Fox event, with Collider.com in attendance. While speaking about the process of writing Kingsman 2 with his partner Jane Goldman, Vaughn revealed they have come up with an idea for Kingsman 3.

Sony has released a new red-band trailer for their upcoming comedy Rough Night. The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Zoë Kravitz, Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, and Ilana Glazer as five friends on a bachelorette party who accidentally kill a male stripper and have to cover it up. The movie is written by Broad City writers Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs, with Aniello also directing. It opens in theatres on June 16th.

A24 has unveiled the first trailer for its upcoming horror-thriller Woodshock. The film marks the directorial debut of Black Swan costume designers Kate Mulleavy and Laura Mulleavy, who also wrote the film that stars Kirsten Dunst. In the trailer we see Dunst playing a young woman grieving the loss of her mother and wandering her town aimlessly, setting up a dream-like, trippy story that the trailer doesn’t really give away. Woodshock opens in theaters on September 15th.

According to the Tracking Board, Fox and New Regency have picked up the movie rights to The Martian novelist Andy Weir’s next project, the near-future thriller entitled Artemis; setting Simon Kinberg and Aditya Sood to produce. The story follows a woman named Jazz, a twentysomething living in her small town of Artemis, which happens to be the only city on Moon.
