Deadline is reporting that 20th Century Fox has officially formalized their plans on their X-Men Universe next movie Dark Phoenix; with longtime X-Men producer and writer Simon Kinberg signing on to make his directorial debut on the movie, with Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, and Kodi Smit-McPhee all returning to reprise their respective roles. Deadline also confirms that Jessica Chastain is in official talks to join the movie as its main villain Lilandra, the empress of an alien empire called the Shi’ar, who leads the quest to imprison and execute Dark Phoenix, leading her into conflict with the X-Men. The studio also set a release date of Friday, November 2nd, 2018.

In a new and extensive Facebook Live Q & A with Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige, the studio head talked about how the Marvel vs. DC Comics feud doesn’t extend to the people working behind the scenes. With the recent success of Wonder Woman proving big at the box office, Feige as well had only good things to say about DC and its fearless leader Geoff Johns.

Empire Magazine recently ran a feature on the future of the Transformers movies and thanks to Transformers World who followed up on that story, we now know that the new Bumblebee spin-off movie will take place in the 1980s. Director Travis Knight’s prequel will also not be as “busy or as large” as Michael Bay’s Transformers movies but rather, will focus on a lighter tone, with fewer robots and a return to the “boy and his car” storyline introduced in the first movie. Hailee Steinfeld will reportedly play “a tomboy who also holds a job as a mechanic after school” where she comes in contact with Bumblebee. The movie is gearing up for production now with a release date set for June 8th, 2018.

According to THR, a Crooked Man spin-off will be the next movie in The Conjuring universe. Based on a story by original helmer James Wan, the movie is now the third entity to get its own movie after Annabelle and The Nun. Mike Van Waes has been hired to pen the script which will utilize the English nursery rhyme as a jumping off point. No release date, director or actors have been announced at this time.

-Tom Holland says ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ starts a trilogy

-Woody Allen’s Wonder Wheel scores December/Awards Season release

-First trailer released for Brigsby Bear starring Kyle Mooney and Mark Hamill

-Michelle Monaghan returning for Mission Impossible 6 as Ethan Hunt’s wife

At this past year’s Cinema Con, Spider-Man Homecoming producer Amy Pascal revealed the character was only contracted to appear in Homecoming, two Avengers movies and one sequel after Homecoming. This was later confirmed by MCU head honcho Kevin Feige soon after. However, if Tom Holland is to be believed, it looks as though Spider-Man will go for at least one more movie after the Homecoming sequel to complete a trilogy. In an interview with AlloCine, Tom Holland apparently let slip that there may be more movies after the Homecoming sequel.

Variety is reporting that Woody Allen’s next film has found a very Oscar friendly release date. The trade has learned that his drama entitled Wonder Wheel will debut in limited release on December 1st this year, just in time for an awards’ qualifying run, before opening wide later in January. The film is set in Coney Island during the 1950s, with a logline that reads: “larger-than-life characters, lovers, infidelity, and gangsters.” It stars Jim Belushi, Juno Temple, Justin Timberlake, and Kate Winslet.

After debuting at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, the first trailer for the indie comedy Brigsby Bear has finally landed online. The movie stars Kyle Mooney and Mark Hamill, with Mooney starring as a young man who grew up watching an educational children’s television program called Brigsby Bear Adventures. His life is then thrown into upheaval when he learns his parents actually kidnapped him as a baby and raised him in an underground bunker secluded from the rest of the world.

Mission Impossible 6 writer/director Christopher McQuarrie took to Instagram yesterday to reveal that Michelle Monaghan, whose character married Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible III and who made another appearance in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, is returning for Paramount and Skydance’s next chapter in the franchise.

Variety is reporting that Jeremy Renner, Isla Fisher Ed Helms, and Hannibal Buress have all signed on for the New Line comedy entitled Tag; joining the already signed Jake Johnson, Jon Hamm, Annabelle Wallis, and Rashida Jones. The movie is based on Russell Adams’ 2013 story in The Wall Street Journal titled “Tag, He’s ‘It’ for Another Year,” about a group of friends who have been playing a cutthroat version of the children’s game for the last 30 years.

In a new interview about his role in Cars 3, Armie Hammer revealed that he has not actually been contacted by Warner Bros for Green Lantern or Shazam, even though there’s a huge social media campaign behind the buzz. Speaking to Screen Rant, Hammer mentioned that the rumors began after DC honcho Geoff Johns followed him on twitter, after which Hammer contacted his agent asking if it was true.

Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros is in negotiations with writers Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant to write, and Central Intelligence helmer Rawson Thurber to direct a new entry in the Cannonball Run franchise. The trade notes that the movie isn’t so much a remake as it is a film based on the Cannonball “sea to shining sea memorial trophy race” that was featured in the original movies. No cast has been announced at this time and a release date has yet to be determined.

Just before the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in April, James Gunn confirmed that he would write and direct Vol 3. Now he reveals in an interview with IGN that he will also work with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to help oversee the future of the entire Cosmic Universe in the MCU.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment recently announced that they would be launching a “clean version” initiative allowing viewers to screen edited versions of two dozen Sony films. The studio will make broadcast TV and airline versions of the 24 titles available for consumers who purchase films in its original form off either iTunes, Vudu, and FandangoNOW. Seth Rogen, who produced and starred in Sony’s The Interview and Sausage Party, took to Twitter following the announcement, tweeting not-so-subtly: Holy shit please don't do this to our movies. Thanks.

Last night at the 18th annual Golden Trailer Awards, current box office champion Wonder Woman won the top prize in front of over 1,000 attendees for Open Road Entertainment and AV Squad. The “Best in Show” was awarded for their work on “What She Is” along with the top honor for best fantasy/adventure trailer. The Golden Trailer Awards go to 115 different categories but only 17 were handed out live on Tuesday at the Saban Theatre, with a selection of the winning trailers at the Golden Trailer Awards’ website.

The DCEU is currently on top of the mountain thanks to Wonder Woman, but according to a new report from Forbes, Warner Bros. is waiting to see how Justice League performs before moving forward with their extensive slate. Forbes writer Mark Hughes wrote about the DCEU slate in a post-Wonder Woman world, and it looks as though their plans will all hinge on Justice League’s performance with audiences and the box office before they plan the next slate of releases after Aquaman, which is the only DC Film in production.

Variety is reporting that a slew of actors have joined Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep in Steven Spielberg’s movie about the Pentagon Papers now entitled The Papers. The extended cast list includes Alison Brie, Carrie Coon, David Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Pat Healy, Tracy Letts, Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Paulson, Jesse Plemons, Matthew Rhys, Michael Stuhlbarg, Bradley Whitford and Zach Woods. The movie about the Washington Post’s role in exposing the Pentagon Papers back in 1971 just kicked off production and is on the fast track to be ready for a limited December 22nd release just in time for Oscar Season. The movie will then go wide in theatres on January 12th, 2018.

The Mummy opens this Friday marking the beginning of Universal’s Dark Universe franchise based around classic movie monsters. Producer and Mummy director Alex Kurtzman has been the guiding force behind the franchise alongside Fast and Furious screenwriter Chris Morgan and in a recent interview with Fandom about The Mummy, Kurtzman revealed that he’d like to recruit some more A-list talent for the movies, name dropping Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Charlize Theron and Angelina Jolie as on his wish list.

Variety is reporting that The Shallows helmer Jaume Collet-Serra has signed on to direct Waco for Annapurna Pictures and Mark Boal’s Page 1 production banner. The pic will be set during the 1993 standoff between the FBI and Texas state law enforcement and the Branch Davidians that lasted 51 days and saw 76 people killed in the process. Mark Boal, who penned Zero Dark Thirty, wrote the script with Kubo and the Two Strings scribe Marc Haimes. The movie will look to begin production soon with a release date yet to be determined.

It’s been a while since we’ve had an update on the status of Suicide Squad 2. While a recent report from Forbes states that DC will be looking at the performance of Justice League before making any concrete plans in regards to their line-up, Joel Kinnaman AKA Squad leader Rick Flag, recently told THR that he believes Suicide Squad 2 could begin filming as soon as next year.
