As Taika Waititi gears up for the release of his latest Thor Ragnarok, talk is already turning to his rumored next project Akira. During a chat with IGN, the director did confirm that he’s had some meetings about helming the movie, only claiming however that there have been some “chats.” He also said he would like his adaptation to center around the books and not the 1988 movie, confirming later that the plan would be to adapt all six volumes of the manga.

Due to some rights issues not yet resolved between Universal and Marvel Studios, Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk character currently does not have a stand-alone movie in the works. However, if MCU head honcho Kevin Feige has his way, he’ll be able to explore a type of stand-alone story for the big guy inside some upcoming Marvel releases. Speaking with Cinemablend about his character in the upcoming Thor Ragnarok, Mark Ruffalo teased the storyline.

According to THR, Disney is pulling their Jack and the Beanstalk fairy tale entitled Gigantic from their schedule and cancelling the movie indefinitely. Inside Out co-writer Meg LeFauve and Tangled’s Nathan Greno were directing the project, with Frozen songwriters Robert Lopez and Kirsten Anderson-Lopez writing songs for the previously set release of November 25th, 2020

Now that the new Halloween redo is entering production, the new Halloween movie is said to ignore every movie in the franchise save the original and Part II. Not so fast, says the creator himself. John Carpenter opened up and addressed that question, revealing there are actually only acknowledging the first movie in the series.

THR reports that Project Almanac director Dean Israelite has signed on to helm Unexplained Phenomenon, a supernatural family adventure from Spielberg’s Amblin Pictures. The move reunites the director with writers of Project Almanac Jason Pagan and Andrew Deutschman, in a story described as ET meets Poltergeist.

THR is reporting that 20th Century Fox has optioned the Taylor Adams' novel No Exit, setting Logan screenwriter Scott Frank to adapt into a film. The novel centers on college student Darby Thorne, who, while on the way home to visit her mother, gets stranded in a blizzard at a highway rest stop for a night with four strangers.

Warner Bros. released a new Justice League trailer online yesterday morning, offering up another look at the highly-anticipated DC Comics adaptation. The culmination of DC’s comics universe finds Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and Ben Affleck’s Batman joining forces to create a team of “metahumans” in order to combat the otherworldly threat of Steppenwolf, a herald of Apokolips, as they search for a number of mother-boxes that could bring the end of days to Earth. Justice League opens in theaters on November 17th.

Thor Ragnarok Early Reactions - Steve “Frosty” Weintraub will join panel for a quick mention on Thor Ragnarok, the early reactions and our quick thoughts on the film.

It’s Monday and time for the weekend Box Office Report. With an estimated $31.5 million, Blade Runner 2049 took the No 1 spot, but opened well below expectations. Reported to be budgeted at $150 million, the Warner Bros. release, in association with Alcon Entertainment and Sony, was expected to deliver anywhere from $45-55 million but fell way short of that goal. In the No 2 spot was Fox's The Mountain Between Us, finishing with an estimated $10.1 million. Third belongs to Warner Bros. and New Line's IT, finishing with an estimated $9.65 million and pushing its domestic total to $304.9 million.  My Little Pony took the No 4 spot with an estimated $8.8 million and Kingsman The Golden Circle rounds out the top five with an estimated $8.1 million in its third week in release.

Lucasfilm confirmed Sunday that the new trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi will debut on ESPN’s Monday Night Football tonight at halftime during the game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears. The game starts at 5:15 pm pst/8:15 pm est and following the trailer, tickets will go on sale everywhere movie tickets are sold.

Annapurna Pictures has released the final trailer for Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, the festival favorite about the origin of one of DC’s most beloved superheroes.

Just as it was announced that Fast and Furious 9 has been delayed a year and pushed back to April 10, 2020, THR is now reporting that the Fast and Furious spin-off centering on The Rock’s Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw has been dated for July 26, 2019, with franchise screenwriter Chris Morgan handling scripting duties.

In a report from Deadline, Universal’s Dark Universe appears to be in flux as the studio has pulled Bill Condon’s Bride of Frankenstein from its February 14th, 2019 release date. The movie was deep into pre-production when Universal told the crew to go home as they wait for screenwriter David Koepp to refine the script. Additionally, over at The Wrap, a report came out saying Gal Gadot is Condon’s first choice if Angelina Jolie does in fact pass.

Deadline is reporting that Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski is making a deal to direct Gambit over at Fox. The X-Men spinoff has been a high priority at the studio since Channing Tatum stepped up to star.

Ahead of the new trailer that is supposed to debut later today, Entertainment Weekly has released the first images from Pacific Rim Uprising. The sequel, initially developed for Guillermo del Toro to return and direct, is now helmed by Daredevil Season 1 showrunner Steven S. DeKnight.

Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Roman J. Israel, Esq.; the new film from Nightcrawler director Dan Gilory that stars Denzel Washington. Washington plays the title character, a struggling lawyer whose lifelong crusade for social justice comes crashing down when his partner suffers a heart attack and he’s forced to go work for George (Colin Farrell), a high-priced attorney at a powerful firm.
