1) Discussion – What has been the best year for movies?

2) ‘Fast and Furious 9’ Pushed Back a Year to Easter Weekend 2020

3) Opening This Week - The Mountain Between Us, My Little Pony

We’ll start a discussion about the BEST YEAR for movies, based on a poll that blew up on Reddit. Currently, with thousands of votes tabulated, the year of 1994 is in the lead for such movies as Pulp Fiction, Forest Gump, The Lion King and Shawshank Redemption, followed by 1999 in second with Fight Club, The Matrix, American Beauty and Phantom Menace, followed by the year of 2014 in third with such movies featured as Boyhood, Whiplash, Guardians of the Galaxy, Edge of Tomorrow and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. So Ken, what movie year are you picking as the best movie year of all time?

THR reports that the ninth movie in the multi-billion dollar Fast and Furious franchise has stalled out; with Universal deciding to push Fast and Furious 9 back one year. Originally set for release on April 19, 2019, FF9 will now drop on April 10, 2020 – more than three years after Fate of the Furious’ $1.23 billion worldwide total that incited to wanting more.

According to a recent update from Variety Film Reporter Justin Kroll, it looks as though Sony’s Venom movie is getting a re-write. Kroll took to twitter yesterday to reveal that Kelly Marcel, the screenwriter who adapted 50 Shades of Grey for the big screen, has come onboard to pen the latest draft of the Venom movie.

A new set of Justice League posters and the promise of another trailer dropping Sunday has been revealed by Warner Bros. The posters include stand-alone single shots of each member with the tag ALL IN – with the usual suspects featured including Wonder Woman, Batman, The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg (and still no Superman).

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Tuesday October 3rd, 2017) Ken Napzok, Mark Reilly, Jeremy Jahns and Ashley Mova discuss the following:

1) Optimus Prime to be in new Bumblebee spin-off

2) Edge of Tomorrow 2 script finished; Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt’s schedules causing production start issues

3) Opening This Week: Blade Runner 2049

4) Judy Greer joins Jamie Lee Curtis in new Halloween movie as daughter

5) Live action Sonic the Hedgehog movie in the works with Tim Miller and Paramount

6) Mail Bag

7) Live Twitter Questions

When word broke that a spin-off movie centering on Bumblebee was in development, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura promised something different for the 80’s set story, stating that the movie would take a page out of Iron Giant and feature less Transformers in the movie, with a story that is more “emotionally complex” than Michael Bay’s previous films. Now, it seems the less Transformers statement doesn’t exactly mean Bumblebee is the only Transformer. Speaking with the CineMovie YouTube Channel, Optimus Prime voice Peter Cullen confirmed that we’ll be hearing his voice again in the new spin-off that will see Kubo and the Two Strings director Travis Knight taking on directing duties.

In a recent interview with Collider’s own Steve Weintraub, American Made director Doug Liman offered up some new details on the status on the much-anticipated Edge of Tomorrow 2 movie that will see Liman, Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt all returning again. As for when we can expect the movie, Liman states it might actually be a while due to scheduling problems with his two leads.

In a report from Deadline, Judy Greer is in negotiations to star in David Gordon Green and Danny McBride’s Halloween re-launch as Karen Strode, the daughter of Laurie Strode, played by the returning Jamie Lee Curtis. Green is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with McBride; with Halloween creator John Carpenter serving as executive producer as well as providing the score.

According to THR, Neal H. Moritz and Tim Miller are teaming up with Paramount Pictures to mount a live action movie centering on Sonic The Hedgehog. Deadpool director Tim Miller is executive producing the project, while his longtime Blur Studio collaborator Jeff Fowler is making his feature directorial debut on the film.

Focus Features has released a new trailer for Joe Wright’s historical drama Darkest Hour. Scripted by The Theory of Everything’s Anthony McCarten, the film stars an unrecognizable Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill and begins on the eve of World War II, chronicling Churchill’s difficult push to get England to stand up to Nazi Germany and enter the war rather than negotiate a treaty.

A new international trailer for Thor: Ragnarok has been released online showcasing some new footage specifically geared to the Chinese market overseas.

Lionsgate Premiere has released the first trailer for Gotti starring John Travolta. Directed by Kevin Connelly, the film spans three decades and follows the rise and fall of crime boss John Gotti as he tried to build the Gambino Crime Family both during and between his stints in prison.

In a new interview with Billboard, Danny Elfman offered up some new details from his Justice League score, including the fact that he’s going back to some iconic DC character themes from previous films and implementing them in new ways – including using John Williams’ iconic Superman theme, but spun in a different way.
