Marvel Studios has finally released the first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War. Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, the filmmakers behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War directed both Infinity War and Avengers 4, the latter of which is still in the midst of production. Infinity War is the first part in a two-part culmination and “finale” to the MCU as we know it and will land in theatres on May 4th, 2018.

The National Board of Review has announced honorees for its 2017 awards. Steven Spielberg‘s The Post took top honors with Best Film, with the full Top 10 also debuting and representing a diverse group. They include Baby Driver, Call Me by Your Name, The Disaster Artist, Downsizing, Dunkirk, The Florida Project, Get Out, Lady Bird, Logan and Phantom Thread.

After allegations of abuse by Johnny Depp against Amber Heard that led to a very famous and public divorce, many have been calling for the character he plays in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, that of the dark wizard Grindelwald, to be recast. Now, speaking with EW about the sequel Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Yates has come to Depp’s defense, explaining why the role won’t be recast.

20th Century Fox has released the first Love, Simon trailer. Based on Becky Albertalli’s novel, the film follows seventeen-year-old Simon Spier, played by Nick Robinson, who is currently grappling with how to tell his family and friends that he’s gay. He’s also working to identify an anonymous classmate he’s fallen for online.

Variety reports that a new movie featuring Daphne and Velma, the teen-girl sleuths from “Scooby-Doo,” are getting their own origin story in a live-action feature-length film from Jennifer and Ashley Tisdale’s production banner Blondie Girl Productions.

In a sprawling profile in Vanity Fair about the 10-year anniversary of Marvel Studios, the magazine revealed that after the conclusion of Avengers 4, “at least some of the original characters who sit at the center of the billion-dollar Avengers team will be hanging up their capes and shields.” Head honcho Kevin Feige also teased what’s to come after Avengers 4, saying they have about 20 completely different Marvel movies in development, with Avengers 4 acting as the “Finale” to the MCU as we know it.

While production has already begun on James Cameron’s Avatar 2 and Avatar 3, the director recently revealed to Vanity Fair that if parts 2 and 3 don’t do well at the box office, then Fox will not move forward on parts 4 and 5.

OPENING THIS WEEK

In 2003, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World earned 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for Peter Weird, and scored two wins for Best Cinematography and Sound Editing. But against a budget of $150 million, the film only made $212 million at the box office, making its sequel prospects unlikely. Now, 15 years later, Russell Crowe has taken to his Twitter account saying a Master and Commander sequel may actually be happening.

While it’s very hard to score a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s not impossible. In the history of the aggregator site, only one movie has scored a perfect 100 and that was Toy Story 2, with 163 reviews certified fresh. But now, we have a new champion and it comes in the form of Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird. The film now has 164 reviews, all of them “Fresh”, giving the film a 100% Fresh rating, as well as crowning it the best reviewed movie of all time.

1) Variety is reporting that Jude Law has entered negotiations to join Brie Larson, Samuel L Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn in Marvel’s Captain Marvel. Law will be playing Doctor Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell, who becomes a mentor to Larson’s Danvers as she tries to figure out her new powers. Half Nelson directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are directing the film that will be set in the ’90s before the Avengers Assembled, with the Skrulls and Mendelsohn playing the villains in the movie. Captain Marvel is set to hit theatres on March 8, 2019.

According to a report from THR, analysts predict that Star Wars The Last Jedi will open above $200 million dollars domestic, putting the eighth episode in the Skywalker saga the fourth movie ever to achieve such a feat after The Force Awakens, The Avengers, and Jurassic World. Although THR doesn’t specify if they think The Last Jedi can beat out The Force Awakens, many predictions place the movie opening below The Force Awakens’ $248 million domestic haul from two years back.

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Wednesday November 22nd, 2017) Dennis Tzeng, Jon Schnepp, Perri Nemiroff, Ashley Mova discuss the following:

1) Justice League projected to lose between $50-100 million for WB

2) Batman Will Appear in the ‘Flashpoint’ Movie, Geoff Johns Confirms

3) John Lasseter Taking Leave of Absence From Pixar Amid "Missteps"

4) ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ Sequel in the Works at Fox

In a report from Forbes, as Justice League enters its second weekend in release in theatres, the outlet is reporting that due to its less than stellar opening weekend, the fifth movie in the DCEU stands to lose anywhere from $50 to $100 million dollars. The number comes based on “educated projections” that include the film’s $300 million production budget as well as over $150 million in marketing costs.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, along with the co-head of the DC Films Jon Berg, spoke briefly about the studio’s plans for Flashpoint starring Ezra Miller and whether it will include Batman or not. Without revealing too many details, Johns did confirm an appearance by The Dark Knight, at least a version of the character.

In a shocking report from THR, Disney Animation head John Lasseter is taking a leave of absence from Pixar after acknowledging in a memo "painful" conversations and unspecified "missteps.” The memo by Lasseter came ahead of THR’s own story about the alleged incidents that includes a story Rashida Jones, co-writer of Toy Story 4, leaving the project early on after Lasseter reportedly made unwanted advances.

THR reports that a sequel to Murder on the Orient Express entitled Death on the Nile, has entered development over at Fox; with Orient Express’ Michael Green returning to pen the script. The movie will again be based on the Agatha Christie novel of the same name in which Hercule Poirot, played by Kenneth Branagh in Orient Express, is on a vacation in Egypt and becomes involved in “a love triangle gone murderously bad.”

Deadline is reporting that X-Men Apocalypse’s Alexandra Shipp is in final negotiations to join Samuel L. Jackson, Richard Roundtree and Jesse T. Usher in the new Shaft reboot from director Tim Story. The new movie sees Jesse T. Usher’s Shaft Jr. character working for the FBI and estranged from his father.

The long developed, long delayed X-Men spin-off Gambit starring Channing Tatum looks to be back on track now as Variety is reporting that Lizzy Caplan is in talks to join the cast as a lead in the film; though her role is being kept under wraps at this time. The movie had its fair share of problems over the years, with two separate directors leaving the project over creative differences before the script went back to the drawing board for a re-write. Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski is attached to direct, with a release date set for February 14th, 2019

In a new article from Vanity Fair, plot details have been revealed for Quentin Tarantino’s much anticipated movie that recently landed at Sony. The untitled film, going by the working title #9, takes place in the summer of 1969 in Los Angeles and follows “a male TV actor who’s had one hit series and is looking for a way to get into the film business. His sidekick—who’s also his stunt double—is looking for the same thing.” Vanity Fair notes that the murder of Sharon Tate at the hands of the Manson family serves as a backdrop to the main story. Filming is set to begin in June 2018 for a 2019 release yet to be determined.
