20th Century Fox has released the first trailer and poster for Assassin’s Creed last night.  Directed by Justin Kurzel who directed Macbeth, the film stars Michael Fassbender as death row inmate Callum Lynch, who is whisked away to Abstergo and, through revolutionary technology, is enabled to experience the memories of his ancestor Aguilar in 15th Century Spain.

Based on Batman’s “Knightmare” sequence in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it looked like the villain being teased for Justice League: Part One would be none other than Darkseid. However, according to a new report from Birth.Movies.Death. that might not be the case. Instead of Darkseid, BMD is claiming that we’ve already seen the villain… Sort of.

According to a report from ScreenDaily, Joaquin Phoenix is set to star in Lynne Ramsay’s You Were Never Really Here, a character-driven thriller revolving around a tormented war veteran with a troubled past. In You Were Never Really Here, Phoenix will play a damaged war veteran, now a rescuer of women trafficked into the sex trade.

New rumors have surfaced regarding the possibility of a Booster Gold movie in development over at Warner Bros. and DC Films. Last September, Collider reported that DC TV super-producer Greg Berlanti was rumored to be an executive producer and possibly even a director on the movie. Now, thanks to a new interview from “Fat Man on Batman with Kevin Smith and Marc Bernardin,” with a follow up report from Birth Movies Death, screenwriter Zack Stentz appears to be writing a Booster Gold movie.

According to an exclusive report from The Wrap’s Jeff Sneider, Jack Black is in talks to star alongside Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart in Sony’s Jumanji reboot. Jake Kasdan is directing the big-budget adaptation of Chris Van Allsburg’s 1981 book, which is being produced by Matt Tolmach at Sony.

In a report coming out of Cannes, the comedic trio of Will Ferrell, Catherine Keener, and Michael Cera are set to star in the dark comic vacation movie, Captain Dad. Written and directed by Sebastián Silva, the movie tells the tory of Rich Peelman played by Ferrell, who gives his wife Linda the gift of a lifetime for her birthday: a trip through the Caribbean on a sailboat with all six of their kids and their partners.

The first trailer for writer/director Kevin Smith’s buddy comedy Yoga Hosers has finally landed online. The film stars Harley Quinn Smith and Lily-Rose Depp as a pair of teenage convenience store clerks both named Colleen who become embroiled in a mysterious invasion by Nazi sausage monsters named “Bratzis,” who are all played by Kevin Smith himself in heavy makeup. So Captain America: Civil War made 181 million here in the states, making it the 5th highest grossing movie of all time; raking in $673 worldwide. It stays a Sony character and Sony pays for it and Sony makes the profits from the film and it is marketed and distributed by the entire Sony team.” Kevin then talked about why they got Tom Holland, because they wanted a high school Peter Parker, as in beginning high school, and Holland did an incredible audition across from Robert Downey Jr.

-Next X-Men movie to be set in the 90’s

-Zorro reboot casts Gael García Bernal

-Wonder Woman wraps principle production

-Lee Daniels exits Richard Pryor biopic

-New trailer released for Ice Age: Collision Course

Bryan Singer’s initial adaptations of the X-Men franchise were contemporary stories set in the early 2000s. Director Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class returned the mutants to their comic book roots in the 1960s followed by famously crossing timelines in the 70s-set X-Men: Days of Future Past. Now, fans look ahead to the possible end of the world (and the 1980s) in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse. So where do the mutants go from here?

According to a report from Deadline, Gael García Bernal has been cast as the legendary Zorro, teaming with director Jonás Cuarón on a rebooted movie entitled Z. The movie, also written by Cuarón, is eyeing a fall start at the Pinewood Dominican Republic studios. This version of Zorro is said to be a re-imagining of the character as a swashbuckler traversing a near futuristic/post-apocalyptic landscape.

Gal Gadot has taken to her Facebook page to reveal that she has officially wrapped production on the upcoming solo Wonder Woman movie. Gadot will now report to the Justice League set to reprise her role as the Amazon Warrior, with production on the movie already a month in.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Lee Daniels, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker behind Precious and The Butler, has exited the Richard Pryor biopic he was attached to direct. The Weinstein Co., which is behind the film, is said to have declined to wait for Daniels' schedule to clear up. Daniels is an executive producer on Fox's smash television drama Empire with another project at the network, requiring a significant time commitment.

The latest installment in 20th Century Fox/Blue Sky Studios’ Ice Age franchise is about to crash land in theaters starting July 22nd in the states with Ice Age: Collision Course, the fifth film to focus on the animated prehistoric animals. Their next adventure now looks to blast through all the known eras of mankind’s technology and beyond, if the new trailer is any indication.

Another graphic novel is getting a film adaptation, but there’s not a single superhero to be seen. Unless you count Andre the Giant as a superhero. According to a report from Variety André the Giant, real name Andre Roussimoff, is getting a biopic based on the graphic novel André the Giant: Closer the Heaven.

Collider TV Talk - Supergirl Moving From CBS To CW? Iron Fist Set Photos
On this episode of Collider TV Talk Josh Macuga, David Griffin, Sinéad de Vries and Sasha Perl-Raver discuss the following:

-Supergirl rumored to be moving to CW

-New Iron Fist set pics revealed

-Seth Macfarlane's new live action sci-fi television series

-New Ryan Murphy anthology series Feud announced

-The Path renewed by Hulu

-Superhero rundown

-Highlights and lowlights

-Streaming spotlight

The rumor mill about the girl from Krypton and her future on Network TV is at an all time high. Super Girl just wrapped its freshman season on CBS and although 13 million viewers tuned in for the heavily marketed premiere, about half that many tuned into the finale. Last week, The Wrap reported that CBS’ head honcho Les Moonves is in talks with Warner Brothers TV about the future of the show and its 3 million dollar per episode license fee… AND that’s when the move to The CW rumor caught fire, which seems to be all speculation, with multiple outlets picking up the story. So it would appear CW could be home for a Season 2 of Supergirl entering the DC Universe along with The Flash and Arrow.

Seth Macfarlane, best known as the creator of Family Guy and the voice behind the Ted franchise, got a 13 episode straight to series order at 20th Century Fox TV for an hour long sci-fi dramedy. This will be MacFarlane’s first starring role in a live action series for TV, where he’s best known for his voice work and animated prowess. The yet to be named project will be set 300 years in the future with a rag tag crew of space explorers on a ship best described as ‘pre-owned.’ When asked about the series, MacFarlane said, “I’ve wanted to do something like this show ever since I was a kid, and the timing finally feels right.”

Ryan Murphy, the TV producer behind American Horror Story, The People Vs. OJ Simpson and Scream Queens, announced this week that he will be bringing another anthology series to life with Feud. The series will star Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon as Joan Crawford and Bette Davis, respectively, and will investigate the story behind their toxic rift during the filming of the 1962 movie, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?. Murphy will executive produce alongside Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner as well as direct multiple episodes, of which got a full 8 episode order at FX.

In renewal news, Hulu has picked up their original show The Path for a second season and The Mindy Project which they picked up when it was cancelled at FOX, for a 5th season. Both series are available only on the streaming site and unlike Netflix or Amazon, releases the shows on a more traditional weekly basis.

Captain America: Civil War is now the fifth biggest domestic opening of all time, taking in 181.7 million dollars in its debut for an easy No 1 spot at the box office. Huge Jackman is ready to hang up the claws for good as the X-Men franchise continues barreling forward, but not before one last go-around as the character in Wolverine 3. Jackman spent plenty of time and care ensuring that this last Wolverine movie was up to standards, bringing helmer James Mangold back again to direct. Our own Steve Weintraub chatted with producer Simon Kinberg confirming that the project has begun filming while also confirming that the movie will in fact be rated R.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros is making subtle additions to their Justice League braintrust adding Batman himself as an Executive Producer. Ben Affleck will work with director Zack Snyder and screenwriter Chris Terrio behind the scenes with special mention given by Deadline saying Affleck will specifically “support” Snyder during the production in order to make the film the best it can be.

During a conversation with Deadline about this weekend’s domestic release of Captain America: Civil War, Kevin Feige spoke of Marvel Studios committing to a solo movie featuring Black Widow, AKA Natasha Romanoff. During an interview with Collider’s own Steven Weintraub for the upcoming Alice in Wonderland sequel, Alice Through the Looking Glass, James Bobin confirmed he is set to direct MIB 23, the anticipated crossover film between 23 Jump Street and Men in Black announced back in March. Bobin says he is set to begin shooting later this year. Though he did not confirm a cast just yet, initial reports said that Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill will reprise their Jump Street roles with Men in Black getting a soft reboot.

A legendary wise-guy reunion is finally moving closer to fruition with Deadline reporting that Martin Scorsese’s long-gestating The Irishman - which may bring together Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci - is coming together very quickly and could be made available to international buyers at the current Canne Film Festival. The Irishman is based on the Charles Brandt book I Heard You Paint Houses which is the deathbed story from mob hitman Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran about the disappearance and death of Jimmy Hoffa.

Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for director Ron Howard‘s Dan Brown adaptation Inferno. The film marks the third in the Robert Langdon franchise following 2006’s The Da Vinci Code and 2009’s Angels & Demons and finds Tom Hanks returning as the franchise’s hero, who wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia and must team up with Dr. Sienna Brooks, played by Felicity Jones, to try and recover his memories and stop a madman from unleashing a plague inspired by Dante’s Inferno.

-Alden Ehrenreich confirmed as Young Han Solo

-Russo Brothers confirm Captain Marvel for Infinity War

Last night, the long awaited news was finally confirmed by The Wrap and Hail, Caesar! star Alden Ehrenreich has been officially cast as Young Han Solo in the Star Wars Story directed by Phil Miller and Chris Lord. Ehrenreich was universally praised following his breakout role in the Coen brothers feature and has been rumored to be at the top of the list now for weeks. Lord and Miller’s Han Solo movie is set to begin production in January 2017 and won’t hit theaters until 2018.

The Russo Brothers might have just confirmed Captain Marvel for Avengers: Infinity War Part 1. During a Captain America: Civil War event screening and Q and A at the Smithsonian Institute, the Russo's were speaking about the upcoming Infinity War when they mentioned Captain Marvel by name. A fan quickly asked for clarification, saying - "did you just confirm Captain Marvel?” The Russos replied, half jokingly, half serious: "Um....Captain Barvel. Totally different character." The flub has since lit up the Twitter-verse, with fans using the hashtag #MarvelAtSIdocumenting the conversation.

In a report from Deadline, 20th Century Fox has tapped into an entirely new superhero universe, acquiring the rights to the Boom comic book series, Irredeemable, adapting it as a directing vehicle for Adam McKay. Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters writer Tommy Wirkola is writing the screenplay. The Mark Waid-created comic book debuted in 2009, and tells the story of Plutonian, the world’s greatest superhero who began heartlessly slaughtering the population of Earth.

The Slender Man is now headed from the internet to the big screen. The meme that launched a thousand more memes about a faceless man with unnaturally long arms is now up for a big screen adaptation with Screen Gems producing the film version of the internet-grown intellectual property. The Slender Man concept began with Eric Knudsen creating photos of children and a Photoshopped figure involved in causing the disappearance of children and other horrifying acts.

Warner Bros. has released the final trailer for the Shane Black directed The Nice Guys. The trailer includes plenty of new footage to help get people even more excited; with many film buffs now calling this one of their most anticipated films since the project was announced. Set in 1970s Los Angeles, the story finds Ryan Gosling’s down-on-his-luck private eye teaming up with Russell Crowe’s hired enforcer to solve the case of a missing girl and the seemingly unrelated death of a porn star.

Lionsgate has released a new Now You See Me 2 trailer along with the very first clip. The movie this time around shows the Four Horsemen committing a heist rather than their usual M.O. of using magic tricks to steal from the rich and give to the poor. The clip also reveals Morgan Freeman’s incarcerated bad guy providing a brief recap of the first movie, setting up his showdown with the Horsemen that will most likely happen in the upcoming sequel.

Collider Jedi Council - Mark Hamill Confirms Original Opening of The Force Awakens
Today is May 5, 2016 and it’s another Collider Jedi Council hosted by Kristian Harloff, with John Campea, Tiffany Smith and John Rocha.

Chris Miller Teases Young Han Solo Movie

The council starts by looking at the recent tweet Chris Miller gave the fans in preparation of his next movie (and Phil Lord’s), Young Han Solo. The image is a simple one, Han Solo’s iconic blaster laying on a table. The council discuss whether this is anything, with some commenting on how it actually got them very excited

Mark Hamill Confirms Original Opening of The Force Awakens

Before The Force Awakens opened, a rumored was going around that had many, including the council, convinced it was nothing but a hoax and oh, so very bad. That of a supposed opening that featured a severed hand holding a lightsaber floating in space. No way. Turns out, it was true. Mark Hamill spoke about the original opening, confirming it was there but ultimately cut. Thankfully. The whole panel agreed – it was a stupid idea that didn’t “feel” like a Star Wars opening.

Riz Ahmed Talks Rogue One

The actor talked with Entertainment Weekly about the level of detail involved in the making of Rogue One and shared his first memories of the Star Wars universe. He said that he didn’t follow the storyline but remembers the images (from the original) and they were seared onto his brain. On set, he felt it was a bunch of trippy set pieces for him.

Anakin Reference Cut from The Force Awakens

J.J. Abrams revealed in an interview that he wanted the flags found in Maz Kanata’s castle to be an Easter Egg haven for fans of the series. In the flags we saw a number of things that were call backs to the original movies. A big one being Boba Fett’s flag. Turns out there was a flag seen in the trailers that was from Anakin’s pod in Phantom Menace. But later it was cut out of the original release because, as J.J. said, he didn’t want to include podracing references.

The Force Awakens Cantina Song Now Available

Many fans asked for it and yesterday, they got it. Lin Manuel Miranda and J.J. Abrams released the original Jabba Flow, the song that was performed in Maz Kanata’s Castle, in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Miranda and Abrams didn’t only write and produce the song, but they also performed the track; which is available now on iTunes.

What’s the Deal with Canon?

Here now is the segment called What’s the Deal with Canon – a discussion on everything in the world of canon that isn’t one of the movies, be it Episodes or Star Wars’ Story.

In this segment, a very special Bloodline (non-spoiler) review followed by the special interview Kristian had with the author of Bloodline, Claudia Gray! After the interview, the panel discuss the interview, and the book. Giving their thoughts on the first novel set close to the events of The Force Awakens. After, they look at a report of a new Star Wars video game in the works. Because, we need more video games set in the Star Wars Universe.

The first image of the new Power Rangers reboot costumes has been released by Entertainment Weekly, giving fans their first glimpse at the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers look after their heroic transformations. Per EW, the costumes are described as “translucent extraterrestrial armor that crystallizes around their bodies.”

Deadline is reporting that Russell Crowe is joining the growing legion of A list stars taking part in Universal Pictures’ shared universe of monster movies. The Gladiator star is in early talks to play a role Deadline calls “Jekyll-like” opposite Tom Cruise in The Mummy. The trade says it is unclear whether this could lead to a future spinoff or not. Alex Kurtzman is directing the Jon Spaihts written script with Chris Morgan overseeing the whole monster’s universe with Kurtzman at Universal.

20th Century Fox is preparing to dig deeper into their X-Men Universe with writer/director Josh Boone’s upcoming superhero film, X-Men: The New Mutants. The core team was created by Chris Claremont and artist Bob McLeod in the 80s, with mutant names unfamiliar to the general movie-going audience; but very familiar to the die hard fans. Taking to his Instagram account yesterday, Boone revealed the line-up of New Mutants we can expect to see that include Magik, Wolfsbane, Mirage, Cannonball, Sunspot, and Warlock.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Andrew Garfield is attached to star in Under the Silver Lake, a crime thriller written and to be directed by David Robert Mitchell, the filmmaker behind the highly acclaimed horror movie It Follows. Details are being kept under wraps, with the only information available about the project described as a modern-day noir crime thriller set in Los Angeles.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Saturday Night Live’s Taran Killam will make his directorial debut on the action comedy Why We’re Killing Gunther, with Arnold Schwarzenegger tapped to headline. Schwarzenegger will star alongside Cobie Smulders and Taran Killam in a plot revolving around “a group of eccentric international assassins who become fed up with Gunther, the world’s greatest hitman (who also happens to be an arrogant show-off), and decide to kill him.

In a report from Deadline, Daisy Ridley and Naomi Watts are in final negotiations to star in Ophelia, a re-imagining of the Shakespeare classic, Hamlet, as told through the eyes of the play’s famously doomed heroine. The project is based on the award-winning novel by Lisa Klein that has Claire McCarthy directing from a script by Mad Men writer Semi Chellas. The story will be set in the 14th century but spoken in a contemporary voice which will put Ophelia center stage.

With Civil War arriving, finally, in U.S. theaters this week, the hype is real and critics and audiences everywhere are gushing about the superhero epic, with one noticeable stand out mentioned in every review: Spider-Man. Collider’s own Haleigh Foutch sat down with Marvel Head Honcho Kevin Feige to talk all things Civil War and Spider-Man. Feige already confirmed that Marvel would be in charge of the creative side of things with Spidey, with Sony handling distribution. But one thing fans were wondering was whether or not the stand alone Spider-Man would take place before or after Civil War. Speaking about it, Feige clarified that the stand alone would in fact take place after the events in Civil War, and would not rehash an origin story.

According to The Wrap Universal Pictures will release the third film in their Monster Shared Universe on Feb. 15, 2019. The project, which remains untitled, will follow the June 2017 release of Tom Cruise‘s The Mummy and another mystery monster movie due in April 2018 rumored to be Johnny Depp‘s The Invisible Man. The Wrap speculates that the 2019 release could be either Bride of Frankenstein that once had Angelina Jolie circling, or a Wolfman movie.

Broad Green Pictures announced yesterday that it has landed the rights to John Leake’s true crime novel Entering Hades and attached Michael Fassbender to produce and star as Jack Unterweger the Austrian serial killer who was also a celebrated journalist and best-selling author who spent his days investigating murders and his nights committing them. Unterweger was released from prison in 1990 and used as an example of rehabilitation, working as a journalist reporting on various crimes in Los Angeles. Little did the public know that as soon as Unterweger was released, he began killing again.

BUY OR SELL

It’s been almost twenty years since Roland Emmerich’s alien apocalypse movie Independence Day hit theatres and soon, the director will be putting the earth through even more destruction with Independence Day: Resurrection. A lot in the ID4 world has changed since the last invasion and to show just how much, 20th Century Fox has released a viral video that brings us up to speed with planet’s technological and humanitarian advancement since the devastating “War of 1996″.

The long in development Monsterpocalypse movie is finally gaining some traction in a big way. THR reports that a bidding war was underway between Warner Bros., DreamWorks, and Sony to acquire the Monsterpocalypse package, which now has Evil Dead remake director Fede Alvarez set to direct and co-write with his writing partner Rodo Sayagues. The movie follows a similar premise as Pacific Rim, in which humans in robot suits fight monsters, and was once developed by Tim Burton and his Big Fish screenwriter John August. When the original Pacific Rim got off the ground, the project stalled and Burton and August left the package. Now, Warner Brothers has won the rights to produce, hoping to get Monsterpocalypse off the ground. A release date has yet to be determined.
