Chris Evans Joins Jekyll - Collider Nightmares

On this week's episode of Collider Nightmares (Wednesday, December 21, 2016) Clarke Wolfe, Jon Schnepp, Perri Nemiroff and Steve Zaragoza will discuss the following:

- Zombieland director teams with Chris Evans for Jekyll

- Insidious: Chapter 4 plot synopsis from Lin Shaye

- International A Cure for Wellness trailer

- McG’s The Babysitter goes to Netflix

- Stephen Dorff joins 80s set Jackals

- Monster of the Week

- Jump Scares

A few months back, Nightmares shared with you the news that Captain America himself, Chris Evans, would take on the role of a modern-day Henry Jekyll in a character named Tom Jackman. The Lionsgate project is based on the BBC One series from 2007. Now, Deadline is reporting that Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer is attached to helm the project. While Universal unveiled the first look at Russell Crowe’s Henry Jekyll in the first trailer for Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy, Evans and Fleischer’s feature is a loose take on the Robert Louis Stevenson tale.

Coming Halloween 2017 is the latest installment of the Insidious franchise, subtitled Chapter 4. Lin Shaye, who plays Elise in all of the previous three movies, has given a preview of what fans can expect from the fourth movie. Shaye said that the story is fantastic and that you get to know Elise on a deeper level. Getting to know her backstory more, her family and much more.

Do you like weird stuff? I like weird stuff. And director Gore Verbinski has given us some weird stuff in the past. While his latest A Cure for Wellness has been light on plot details, the first trailer was filled with bizarre imagery. Now an international trailer has hit the web and, while not great in length, is anything but short on disturbing and stylized images from the film.

Earlier this year, Nightmares told you about The Babysitter, what was then being called a horror-comedy directed by McG. After completing production for New Line Cinema, this week we learned that due to a crowded slate on New Line’s part, the movie has been sold to Netflix. Starring Bella Thorne and Robbie Amell, The Babysitter follows a lonely young boy who falls for his babysitter to find out she's part of a cult that wants to kill him.

This week we learned that Blade and the upcoming Leatherface star Stephen Dorff will appear in Jackals. The film will be set in the 80s and will be a psychological thriller focused on a family who hire Dorff's character to take back their son from an evil cult.

The Batman Shoots This Spring, Rogue One Opening Night Box Office - Collider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (December 16th, 2016) Dennis Tzeng, Clarke Wolfe, Perri Nemiroff, John Rocha, Sinead DeVries, and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

1) Ben Affleck offers update on The Batman

2) Josh Boone reveals which New Mutants comics inspired his script

3) We won’t know who’s directing Captain Marvel until next year

4) Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig to star in original musical from Amblin

5) Roland Emmerich to direct Dark Matter

8) Mail Bag

Last week word surfaced that filming on the Justice League sequel was being pushed back to make room for The Batman. While no official statement has been released, Ben Affleck is still business as usual for all things Batman. Speaking at a recent Variety screening of his latest directorial effort Live by Night, Affleck offered a positive update on the status of his standalone movie.

As was reported back in May of 2015, The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone will be helming an X-Men spin-off movie with New Mutants. Boone recently sat down with Creative Screenwriting to talk a bit about the comics he’ll be using for inspiration on the movie that will feature the mutants Wolfsbane, Magik, Sunspot, Danielle Moonstar, Mirage, and Cannonball.

BUY OR SELL

If you were hoping to get an early holiday present from Marvel with an announcement as to who will be directing Captain Marvel, think again. Thanks to a tweet from Variety film reporter Justin Kroll, we have an update on the status of the movie and when we can expect an announcement as to who will be helming Marvel’s first female led superhero movie. In the tweet, Kroll said that the studio is getting a treatment soon with meetings with directors to follow soon after the new year. Captain Marvel is set for release on March 8, 2019.

According to a report from Deadline, Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig are attached to develop an original musical based on the book Everything Is Coming Up Profits: The Golden Age Of Industrial Musicals. Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, the duo behind the Broadway musical version of John Waters’ Hairspray are on board to write the score with La La Land producer Marc Platt on to produce. No release date has been set.

Deadline is reporting that Independence Day Resurgence’s Roland Emmerich is in negotiations with Sony to direct an adaptation of the New York Times bestseller Dark Matter, written by Wayward Pines creator Blake Crouch. The novel, published this past July, tells the story of Jason Dessen, a quantum physicist and college professor who wakes up to an alternate reality where he never married or had a son, and is now a celebrated genius who has achieved something remarkable in the world of quantum physics. A release date has yet to be set.

A new trailer has been released for Arsenal, starring Nicolas Cage. Arsenal tells the intertwining stories of the Lindel brothers, Mikey and JP, who had only each other to rely on growing up. When Mikey is kidnapped and held for a ransom by the ruthless crime boss Eddie King (Nicolas Cage), JP turns to the brothers’ old pal Sal, a plain clothes detective for help. Directed by Steven C. Miller, the movie is set to hit theatres next year on January 6th.

Godzilla and Pacific Rim Sequels Get New Titles - Collider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (December 15th, 2016) John Campea, Kristian Harloff, Jeremy Jahns, Jon Schnepp, Natasha Martinez, and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

-Warner Bros Shakeup: Greg Silverman replaced with New Line’s Toby Emmerich

-Godzilla 2 and Pacific Rim 2 get new titles

-Opening this week

-First trailer released for Despicable Me 3

-Disney’s Cruella adaptation hires a director

-Sony fast-tracks Lin-Manuel Miranda’s animated movie Vivo

-Casting Catwoman and Poison Ivy

-Wrestling Biopics

Warner Bros. announced yesterday that it is shaking up its executive team by replacing creative development and production chief Greg Silverman with New Line’s Toby Emmerich as the new president and chief content officer. In an article from Variety, the reasons given for the ousting is due in large part to costly flops from the studio that include Pan and In the Heart of the Sea, as well as the company’s leadership being unhappy with the poor critical reception for Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Emmerich will share green-light authority with Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara, and will effectively take the position after the new year.

Legendary announced via a press release yesterday that Godzilla 2 and Pacific Rim 2 have undergone a couple title changes. First is the official title for Godzilla 2, the follow-up to Gareth Edwards’ 2014 monster blockbuster, which is now officially titled Godzilla: King of Monsters. Second up is a new title for Pacific Rim 2, which was first called Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, and is now titled Pacific Rim: Uprising. Krampus filmmaker Michael Dougherty is scripting the Godzilla sequel and is also in talks to replace director Gareth Edwards, while Pacific Rim: Uprising is currently in production and set for a February 23, 2018 release date.

Universal Pictures has released its first trailer for Despicable Me 3. In the sequel, Steve Carell reprises his role as Gru as well as voicing a new addition to the franchise, Gru’s long-lost twin brother Dru; who is “exactly like Gru except with hair, and also different in every way.” Despicable Me 3 will see Gru facing off against Balthazar Bratt, voiced by Trey Parker, a former child star driven to supervillainy as a result of the cancelation of his TV series. Despicable Me 3 opens in theatres on June 30, 2017

According to a report from THR, Mozart in the Jungle co-creator Alex Timbers is in negotiations to helm Disney’s live-action Cruella De Vil origin story entitled Cruella. The movie will star Emma Stone as the title character, with a script by Fifty Shades of Grey and Saving Mr. Banks’ Kelly Marcel. No release date has been set for the project.

Deadline reports that Sony Pictures Animation chief Kristine Belson has fast tracked Vivo, an animated musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda, featuring 11 songs written by the Hamilton creator. Miranda’s In The Heights collaborator is writing the script with The Croods‘ helmer Kirk De Micco set to direct. Vivo is a longtime passion project for Miranda about a capuchin monkey with a thirst for adventure and a passion for music who makes a treacherous passage from Havana to Miami to fulfill his destiny. Sony has now dated the picture for a December 18, 2020 release date.

Is Cloverfield 3 Going To Be The God Particle? The Exorcist Season Finale Preview - Collider Nightmares

On this week's episode of Collider Nightmares (Wednesday, December 14, 2016) Clarke Wolfe, Jon Schnepp, Perri Nemiroff and Mark Reilly will discuss the following:

- Remake Report: Housebound & Train to Busan

- Release Dates: XX Anthology & Third Cloverfield Movie

- Trailers: The Circle & War for the Planet of the Apes

- Clip: The Bye Bye Man “Nightstand” Trailer

- The Exorcist Cast Previews Finale, Season Two

- Spoiler Free: Ash vs. Evil Dead Finale

- Jump Scares: What was your gateway horror movie?

- Twitter questions

Fresh Meat:

Remakes! This week two non-American horror movies were announced to be getting the remake treatment. First, according to Tracking Board Housebound, the New Zealand horror comedy that saw a young woman placed on house arrest alongside her mother in a home that may be haunted, will be penned by Chris Borrelli.

Next, after a long battle with various other studios, French production company Gaumont has won the English language remake rights for Train to Busan. The company had been pursuing the film rights since Train to Busan screened at Cannes and became an industry favorite.

Two very interesting projects have locked in their hotly anticipated release dates. The horror anthology XX which has been in the works for several years will finally hit the big screen in 2017. After premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in just a few weeks, XX will be released just in time for Valentine’s Day from Magnet Releasing on February 17. XX features short horror films from directors Karyn Kusama, director of the indie favorite The Invitation, Jovanka Vuckovic, Roxanne Benjamin and Annie Clark of St. Vincent.

Later in 2017, Cloverfield fans will be treated to the third film in the anthology franchise as Paramount has announced the release date now standing on October 27, 2017. The God Particle has now been removed from its February release and it remains to be seen if the film due out in October will be The God Particle or a completely different movie that ties into the Clovefield universe.

Trailers galore for two genre offerings: both making their internet debut last week, The Circle, starring Emma Watson, John Boyega, Karan Gillan and Tom Hanks. While promising to make the world a better, more perfect place, The Circle sees social media surveillance taken to dangerous levels. What appears to be a cautionary tale, The Circle is in theaters this April.

Later in the summer comes probably my most anticipated movie of the year, Matt Reeves’ latest War for the Planet of the Apes. Since we have last seen Andy Serkis’s Caesar and the crew, the Apes have continued to evolve but it would also appear that the surviving humans have organized fast, led by franchise newcomer Woody Harrleson. While Matt Reeves has stated that in theory his movies are still fairly far removed in timeline from the 1968 Charlton Heston film, Harrleson’s VO in the first trailer seems to lead us to believe that if this battle ends in the humans favor, we might not be so far from a Planet of Apes after all. The tension is echoed in the international trailer, as well.

Don’t think it, don’t say it, don’t think it, don’t say it… Coming in just a few weeks to theaters is Stacy Title’s The Bye Bye Man, one of the first major horror releases in 2017. Doug Jones stars as the titular boogey man and in anticipation for the movie going wide next year, STX has released a clip titled Nightstand which is the first of many clues of what’s to come for the unsuspecting potential victims of The Bye Bye Man. Many digital outlets also ran a fun contest that saw this very same nightstand being given away in local Craigslist ads. Do a little googling and you might be able to get one for yourself… if you dare!

What’s In The Box?!:

Last week Collider Nightmares hosted a screening of the penultimate episode of The Exorcist with the cast – including Oscar winner Geena Davis – and Jeremy Slater in attendance. For those who couldn’t make it, you were missed, but fortunately the amazing Collider production crew was there to capture the conversations for us. Here’s a piece of our chat with Ms. Davis previewing what is to come on the season one finale airing this Friday, December 16 on Fox. Warning to our viewers! Geena is previewing the season finale so if you’re not caught up through episode nine, you may want to skip this part.

On Sunday night season two of the Starz series Ash vs. Evil Dead came to a close. While the team gets ready to shoot season three, our panelists have been recapping and reviewing each episode right here on Collider Video. The spoiler filled review of the season finale featuring Dana DeLorenzo is up along with reviews of every other episode this season, but we wanted to give you guys a little spoiler-free taste of what you can expect from season two’s big finish.

Jump Scares: Prompted by Lucas on Twitter, he said, I was introduced to horror when my dad showed me The Haunting (1963). What was your gateway horror movie?

Is Justice League 2 Taking A Backseat To The Batman? - Collider Heroes

Welcome to the 87th Episode of Collider’s Heroes, hosted by Jon Schnepp, with guests Robert Meyer Burnett, Ashley V Robinson, and Amy Dallen. We bring you the latest news about the World of Heroes and Villains! On this episode of Collider’s Heroes (Tuesday December 13th, 2016):

- Spider-Man: Homecoming two trailers

- Justice League 2 takes a backseat to The Batman

- X-Men or New Mutants?

- Deadpool & Wolverine

- Minor mutations

- Twitter questions

Spider-Man: Homecoming Two Trailers

Spiderman is back, and in a big way now that he has joined the Marvel Family. We got two very different trailers, one domestic and one international, that gives us a great look at Tom Holland as Peter Parker and some of his high school friends. The trailer also shows off his tutelage under Tony Stark and a brief look at Michael Keaton’s rough boss as The Vulture! Spidey and Iron Man take to the skies in the last shot! Sony also just set the sequels release for July 5, 2019, so they are once again confident. Let’s talk Spider-Man!

Justice League 2 takes a backseat to The Batman

It’s been announced that Justice League 2 will know not shoot immediately after Justice League, and instead they will launch directly into Ben Affleck’s The Batman. Will Zack Snyder is intent on returning to direct the second film, but could this be the best way to get someone else into the directors chair?

X-Men or New Mutants?

The next X-Men film has been rumored to begin shooting in May. Will it be the young X-Men we were introduced to from X-Men: Apocalypse or will it be the New Mutants? What sounds fresher to you?

Deadpool & Wolverine

Ryan Reynolds wants Hugh Jackman to come out of retirement before he can even retire. He recently stated to EW that he wanted both characters of Deadpool and Wolverine to appear together in a film. He also added that they would have to convince Hugh into doing it. Will Jackman don the claws again again?

According to Deadline, Patrick Wilson has been cast as ORM, the super-villain and half brother to Aquaman in James Wan’s adaptation of the DC Comics property. Also known as Ocean Master, Orm is Aquaman’s human half-brother and a rival for the throne of Atlantis who wreaks havoc on the high seas when he doesn’t get his way. The movie is set to begin shooting in Australia next year in order to hit its new release date of October 5, 2018.

After years of directors coming on and then dropping off, director Shawn Levy is ready to start filming the Uncharted adaptation next year. But for all those Mark Wahlberg fans who are still hoping he is attached as Nathan Drake, it won’t be with him. Back when David O. Russell was linked to the director’s chair, the actor was attached as the historic explorer and now thanks to an interview with We Got This Covered, he finally set the record straight, confirming that he, in fact, no longer attached.

Warner Bros. has unveiled the first poster for Christopher Nolan’s WWII action-thriller Dunkirk. Written and directed by Nolan, the film is based on the true events about the evacuation of Dunkirk during the British military operation that saved 330,000 lives as Allied soldiers were surrounded by German forces. The film stars Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance and Cillian Murphy. It opens in theaters on July 21, 2017.

Warner Bros. Pictures debuted a new LEGO Batman Movie extended TV spot online. Will Arnett reprises his role of Batman from The LEGO Movie, alongside Michael Cera as Robin the boy wonder, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, Ralph Fiennes as Alfred Pennyworth, Mariah Carey as Gotham’s mayor, and Zach Galifianakis as The Joker. Chris McKay is directing The LEGO Batman Movie from a script by Seth Grahame-Smith. It’s set to open in theatres on February 10, 2017.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 director James Gunn recently took to Facebook to explain why Baby Groot is not just some shameless cash-grab to sell toys. His explanation came on the heels of some interaction with fans on Twitter, who accused him and Marvel of only creating Baby Groot as a marketing ploy. As he reveals, that wasn’t even his initial plan.
