Jurassic World 2 Updates From Director JA Bayona - Collider Nightmares
On this week's episode of Collider Nightmares (November 15, 2016) Clarke Wolfe, Mark Reilly, Jon Schnepp and Perri Nemiroff will discuss the following:

-JA Bayona Gives Jurassic World 2 Updates

-Body Horror Movie Replace Gets Trailer

-Don Mancini Teases Chucky 7

-Anthony Hopkins, Colin Farrell Star In Solace Trailer

-HBO’s Beware the Slenderman Trailer

-Jeff Davis Gives Update on TNT’s Let The Right One In, MTV’s War of the Worlds

-Monster of the Week: Horror as a Stress Reliever

-Twitter questions

Fresh Meat:

There have been lots of updates on Jurassic World 2 over the past week, set to be directed by A Monster Calls’ JA Bayona. In addition to learning that production is set to begin in March 2017, Bayona was able to reveal to Coming Soon that Jurassic World 2 was a “very personal” film for him, adding, “I think there will be plenty of myself also in the film.”

On Monday the trailer for the new body horror movie Replace found its way onto Entertainment Weekly’s website and from the looks of it actress Rebecca Forsythe has found herself in an unpleasant situation: from EW, Forsythe’s character Kira is “afflicted by a disease that causes her skin to age rapidly and crumble away.

Last week Don Mancini gave hope to horror fans looking for more from Chucky, everyone’s favorite Good Guy, by way of a cryptic tweet: Could Chucky 7 be on the way? And will it feature a franchise reunion?

When you put Anthony Hopkins, Jeffery Dean Morgan and Collin Farrell together, some would say you’ve assembled a pretty solid cast of actors. Add them to what was supposed to be the sequel to David Fincher’s Seven and you have yourself an interesting cinematic prospect.

What’s In The Box?!:

We often say, Truth is stranger than fiction, and in this case, probably more terrifying. HBO dropped the trailer for their documentary Beware The Slender Man, the true story of 12-year olds Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier, who lured their best friend into the woods, stabbed her 19 times, and then confessed they did it to appease a tall and faceless man known online as Slenderman.

Finally, this week Teen Wolf showrunner Jeff Davis was able to give updates on both his pilot for a potential series adaptation of the Swedish novel Let The Right One In at TNT as well as his involvement with MTV’s adaptation of HG Wells’s War of the Worlds.

Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey gets a writer!

Margot Robbie is one of the best things that Suicide Squad brought to the big screen, and now her portrayal of Harley Quinn will be featured in a new movie she is producing. Tentatively being called “Bird of Prey” this will bring her character back alongside many other female supervillains and heroes. Christina Hodson, who just wrote  a reboot of “The Fugitive” and the first Transformers spinoff “Bumblebee”, is scripting this spinoff for Warner Bros and DC Films.

Jessica Chastain gets into producing Painkiller Jane!

News broke that Jessica Chastain with star and produce the adaptation of Painkiller Jane, about a NY cop named Jane Vasko who gains powers when almost getting killed, and becomes a vengeance vehicle of destruction on the people who tried to kill her.

Ghost in the Shell explodes across the internet!

The world of cyberbrains is upon us in live-action with the release of the “Ghost in the Shell” poster, trailer, and first two minutes of the feature this past weekend. This famous manga comic series by Masamune Shirow has been adapted as multiple animated features and television series, and this is the first time it’s been made as a live action, with some considerable pushback with the casting of Scarlett Johansson as The Major.

Deadpool Behind The Scenes Drama - Collider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (November 15th, 2016) John Campea, Jeremy Jahns, Jon Schnepp, Mark Ellis, Ashley Mova and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

-Ryan Reynolds comments on the exit of Deadpool director Tim Miller

-Marvel/Fox trade brought Ego the Living Planet to Guardians of the Galaxy

-Opening this week

-Disney rumored to be purchasing Netflix

-New trailer released for Jackie

-New trailer for Patriots Day released

-Mail Bag

-Live Twitter Questions

When director Tim Miller exited the sequel to Deadpool, it was reportedly over creative differences with his star/producer Ryan Reynolds. Speaking to GQ in a recent interview, Ryan Reynolds finally commented on Miller’s departure saying that all he can really add is that he was sad to see him off the film. Though it was a very diplomatic answer, Reynolds then commented on the passion the entire crew had for the movie and it did seem to suggest some clashes behind the scenes.

Speaking of Deadpool, it appears as if the debut movie about the Merc with the Mouth had a surprising connection to the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, and it has to do with the character of Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Director Tim Miller revealed during Deadpool’s marketing campaign that they wanted Negasonic to have powers more suited to her kick-ass name. But before they could make that change, they had to ask permission from Disney’s Marvel Studios. Via a report from The Playlist, during a Q&A, Deadpool co-screenwriter Paul Wernick revealed that Marvel did give the okay, saying that Kurt Russell’s Ego, the Living Planet was the character Fox swapped with Marvel to change Negasonic Teenage Warhead powers.

Walt Disney Pictures, Walt Disney Animation, Pixar, Marvel Studios, and Lucasfilm are all under the Disney banner — and that’s partly why the studio has already broken its annual box office record. Now, according to a new report from TechCrunch, it looks as though the Mouse House could be adding Netflix’s streaming service and original programming to its growing Empire. TechCrunch states that Disney is now eyeing to purchase Netflix, with the rumors seeming to intensify after the announcement of AT&T’s acquisition of Time Warner.

Fox Searchlight Pictures has released a new trailer for Jackie, starring Natalie Portman as the former First Lady. Directed by Pablo Larraín and written by Noah Oppenheim, the film stars Academy Award winner Natalie Portman in a portrait of one of the most important and tragic moments in American history, seen through the eyes of the iconic First Lady. The film also stars Greta Gerwig, Billy Crudup, John Hurt, and Peter Sarsgaard. It opens in theatres on December 2nd.

CBS Films has released a new trailer for Patriots Day, director Peter Berg’s dramatic chronicle of the Boston marathon bombing and its aftermath. Mark Wahlberg stars as Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders who joins survivors, first responders, and investigators in the hunt for the terrorists responsible for the act before they strike again. Patriots Day opens on December 21st and expands wide on January 13, 2017.

The first full trailer for Disney’s Beauty and the Beast has been released online. The movie stars Emma Watson as Belle, the title beauty, alongside Dan Stevens as the Beast. Directed by Bill Condon, the movie is based on the 1991 animated musical that will also see eight-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken returning with more music. The movie also stars Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Kevin Kline, Stanley Tucci, Ewan McGregor, Ian McKellen, and Emma Thompson. It opens in theatres on March 17, 2017.

Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures is close to getting Bumblebee, the first spinoff to its billion dollar Transformers franchise, off the ground. The first official trailer for Rupert Sanders‘ Ghost in the Shell officially dropped on line yesterday. The movie stars Scarlett Johansson as The Major and follows the elite team of Section 9 in their task to take out dangerous extremists and high-tech criminals. The live-action adaptation brings to life the classic manga comic, and takes inspiration from the animated movies and series that followed the original 1995 anime. The film hits the big screen on March 31, 2017.

Warner Bros. has released the final trailer for writer/director Ben Affleck’s gangster drama Live by Night. Based on the novel of the same name by Dennis Lehane, the film stars Affleck as Joe Coughlin, a World War I vet and son of a Boston Police Deputy Superintendent who operates in the criminal underworld during a Prohibition-era Miami. Live by Night opens in limited release on December 28th and expands wide on January 13th.

The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise was recently revealed to be a series of five films instead of three, and now it looks as though director David Yates is on board for all of them. During a recent interview with Collider, the director revealed he might be interested in directing the entire series if it comes down to it.

Michael Keaton Confirmed As Vulture In Spider-Man Homecoming - Collider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (November 10th, 2016) John Campea, Jeremy Jahns, Kristian Harloff, Jon Schnepp, Michael Rapaport, Natasha Martinez and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

-Michael Keaton confirmed as Vulture in Spider-Man Homecoming

-Pacific Rim 2 begins filming, title confirmed

-Opening this week

-Mission Impossible 6 gets 2018 release date

-Willy Wonka remake to ignore the books

-Tom Holland signs for six Spider-Man appearances

-Doctor Strange director originally considered different villain

-Mail Bag

The first trailer for The Fifth Element director Luc Besson‘s sci-fi epic Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets has been released online. Based on the long-running French comic Valérian and Laureline, the film stars Cara Delevingne and Dane DeHaan as special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe.

In an interview with the Toronto Sun, Kevin Feige finally confirmed that Michael Keaton is indeed playing longtime Spider-Man nemesis Vulture in their upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming. The uber-producer mentioned the actor’s role while talking about Doctor Strange as well as Marvel’s upcoming slate of films:

Star Wars: The Force Awakens actor John Boyega took to his Instagram account to announce the first day of filming on the sequel for Pacific Rim 2 has begun. In doing so, the actor revealed the title as Pacific Rim: Maelstrom; a name that has been rumored for some time. Boyega portrays the son of Idris Elba’s Stacker Pentecost, who died at the end of the first film.

Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media have announced they have set a Summer 2018 release date for Mission: Impossible 6. The sixth installment will hit theaters on July 27, 2018, which is the same date Warner Bros. Pictures currently has set for Aquaman. MI:6 is poised to start filming in spring 2017 with Tom Cruise returning as well as Rogue Nation standout Rebecca Ferguson.

During an interview with producer David Heyman at the recent Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them junket, Slash Film asked about the new Willy Wonka movie in the works at the studio. Heyman emphasized that the movie won’t be just another rehash of the same movies and instead teased it as an origin story.

It looks like Spider-Man is in it for the long hall. After debuting as the web-slinger in this year’s Captain America: Civil War, actor Tom Holland revealed that he’s signed on to appear as the superhero in six Marvel movies.

According to Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson, the movie was originally supposed to feature an entirely different villain than the one we ended up with. During an interview with Empire magazine, Derrickson said one of his initial ideas was to incorporate Nightmare, ruler of the Dream Dimension, instead of Dormammu.

X-Men Franchise Rebooting, Director Bryan Singer Will Not Return - Collider Heroes
Welcome to the 82nd Episode of Collider’s Heroes, hosted by Jon Schnepp, with guests Robert Meyer Burnett, Amy Dallen, and John Campea. We bring you the latest news about the World of Heroes and Villains! On this episode of Collider’s Heroes (Wednesday November 9th, 2016) we discuss:

-Joe Mangienello and Ezra Miller talk The Batman and The Flash

-Steppenwolf has been cast in Justice League

-Another writer abandons “Sandman” Movie Adaptation

-Should we be worried about the DCEU?

-Defenders brings back Elektra

-Minor Mutations

-Flashback - Doctor Strange (1978)

-Twitter questions

Joe Mangienello and Ezra Miller talk about The Batman and The Flash

Both actors will be facing off against Batman and Bruce Wayne one a friend and one a foe. Ezra Miller, though disappointed with the loss of Rick Famuyiwa, has been reading tons of Flash comics, and noted to IGN that one is naive and excitedly at the beginning of their journey, while the other is hardened and slightly cynical. Joe Mangienello stated that he met with Ben and talked about the plot, and that the film will be both new and familiar to fans, and that they are keeping the gritty tone.

Steppenwolf has been cast!

With actor Ciaran Hinds from Game of Thrones being cast as Steppenwolf, how much of the New Gods storyline will be part of the Justice League, and will Darkseid himself be cast and appear in the film? Should we expect a smaller role in the from of mocap, or will this villain rival what Thanos might be in Avengers Infinity War?

Another Writer abandons “Sandman” Movie Adaptation!

Its been reported that Eric Heisserrer, Arrival Writer, has turned in what he worked on and left the project. He stated “I had many conversations with [Sandman creator] Neil [Gaiman] on this, and I did a lot of work on the feature and came to the conclusion that the best version of this property exists as an HBO series or limited series, not as a feature film, not even as a trilogy.

Should we be worried about the DCEU?

With the loss of yet another Director on Flash, and the bad reviews that both Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad got from critics, can a turnaround happen under Geoff Johns and Jon Berg? WB CEO Kevin Tsuijhara thinks so, stating to the NY Times, "Quietly, we’ve been having an amazing year.  The narrative, over all, has not reflected that. People overlook our consistency."  Both Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad  were relatively savaged by critics, yet the combined total of both films is totaling over 1.6 billion, and Tsujihara has seen Wonder Woman and he says its great! Should we be worried?

Defenders brings back Elektra!

The Netflix 8 episode series “The Defenders” which is currently shooting in New York, and brings together Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, has brought in Sigourney Weaver as the main villain, but now we have Elektra herself returning as well, as actress Elodie Yung is back to portray her. With Foggy Nelson, Trish Walker, and Misty Knight returning, we now see that The Hand is back in a very big way. Will Elektra now be the Black Sky under the control of big baddie Sigourney Weaver?

Fresh Meat:

Last night Deadline broke the news that An American Werewolf In London was officially getting the remake treatment. While this isn’t huge news and had been long in the works, what is interesting is that Skybound Entertainment’s Robert Kirkman and David Albert will co-produce as a part of Skybound’s first look deal with Universal. John Landis’s son Max Landis will pen the script and is attached to direct. Does the deal signal that Universal is going all-in on horror?

Two powerhouse performers are joining forces for what could be a crazy-good new movie. Out of the American Film Market came the news that Al Pacino and Karl Urban would lead the new serial killer Hangman. According to Variety, “Pacino will portray a decorated homicide detective and Urban will play a criminal profiler who collaborate to catch a serial killer who’s terrorizing a city with a macabre version of the children’s game Hangman.” Co-starring Brittany Snow, Hangman will begin production on November 17 and is directed by Johnny Martin.

Another week, another Predator update, this time coming in the form of a correction courtesy of Collider’s own Adam Chitwood. First thing’s first: last week news hit the trades that Olivia Munn would be joining the new installment of the Predator franchise. In that same report, it was noted that after we’d seen the Predator ravage jungles, cities and alien planets, the new film would take place in the suburbs, something that made fans scratch their heads.

It’s my own personal feeling that the Hellraiser franchise is one of the greatest, untapped horror franchises of all time. Basically, Dimension owns the rights to the series and has to make a new movie every few years or their rights lapse. This is similar to what happened with their ownership of the Halloween franchise. And while they allegedly shot a film earlier this year under the name “Judgement” that included a role played by Nightmare on Elm Street star Heather Langenkamp, we haven’t heard a whole lot about the project since. While it may be distressing for fans to know that a quality Hellraiser film might be a long ways off, there is a bit of good news: Clive Barker’s company Seraphim Inc will release a graphic novel titled Hellraiser Anthology in the spring of 2017!

What’s In The Box?!:

After releasing an cast photo announcing the beginning of production on season two of Stranger Things, yesterday it was announced that two heavy hitters – Paul Reiser and Sean Astin – would join the cast.

Twitter user Dave Cocca asked us to talk about Buffy, so here we go! November 6 was the 15 year anniversary of the Buffy Musical episode, “Once More With Feeling.” Written and directed by Joss Whedon, the episode of the hit supernatural series featured original music by Whedon and a score written by Christophe Beck.
