Deathstroke Gives Details on Batman Movie - Collider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (November 8th, 2016) John Campea, Jeremy Jahns, Mark Ellis, Jon Schnepp, Ashley Mova and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

-Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel casting Young Dumbledore

-J.R.R. Tolkien biopic Middle Earth lands director James Strong

-Opening this week

-Ezra Miller talks director shake-ups with The Flash

-Deadpool 2 does not begin filming in January

-The Predator taking place in suburbs debunked by Shane Black

-American Werewolf in London remake in the works with Max Landis

-Mail Bag

One of the main antagonists in the new Batman film will be Slade Wilson AKA Deathstroke played by Joe Manganiello. Manganiello recently sat down with former professional wrestling commentator, Mark Madden, and the two spoke about Ben Affleck’s take on The Dark Knight.

In a round table interview with Screen Rant, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them director David Yates confirmed that a younger version of Dumbledore will appear in the upcoming sequels to the movie. Yates also teased that Dumbledore this time around would have more screen time.

According to a report from Variety, director James Strong will helm the J.R.R. Tolkien biopic Middle Earth. The film is about author J.R.R. Tolkien and the events that inspired his novels The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Anticipation is still at an all time high for The Flash’s solo movie even though the production has hit a pretty big snag with their directors. Seth Grahame-Smith exited the project in May and just recently, director Rick Famuyiwa opted out as well over creative differences. At the junket for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Collider’s Ed Douglas asked Ezra Miller about losing the directors.

Even though Deadpool wound up being a huge hit for Fox, late last month saw the exit of director Tim Miller over creative differences with Ryan Reynolds. Despite that, a report is going around that filming on Deadpool 2 is still going to start in January. The story originated over at What’s Filming where a January production start date was noted for Vancouver, but that information is incorrect.

THR recently announced the casting of Olivia Munn joining Boyd Holbrook in Shane Black’s The Predator movie; with the outlet also reporting that the movie would take place in the suburbs. Apparently that’s not the case. Black himself reached out to Collider debunking the claim, saying only that “The Predator is not a movie about the suburbs.”

According to a report from Deadline, Universal has set up a remake to the John Landis classic An American Werewolf in London with his son Max Landis attached to write the script and direct. The Walking Dead‘s David Alpert and Robert Kirkman are producing via their Skybound Entertainment banner.

Doctor Strange Dominates Box Office, Are X-Men Movies Killing The Comics? - Collider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (November 7th, 2016) John Campea, Jeremy Jahns, Mark Ellis, Ken Napzok, Ashley Mova and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

-Mr. Robot’s Rami Malek to play Freddie Mercury in Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody

-Live action Voltron movie in the works

-Box office report

-Game of Thrones star Ciaran Hinds to play Steppenwolf in Justice League

-X-Men comics writer Chris Claremont blames Hollywood for the comics decline

-Quentin Tarantino announces retirement after next two films

-First image of Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour

-Mail Bag

According to a report from Deadline, Mr. Robot star Rami Malek is attached to play Freddie Mercury in the long-development biopic entitled Bohemian Rhapsody; with Bryan Singer also in talks to direct. Singer confirmed the news on his Instagram account, sharing a photo of the group confirming his involvement as well as Malek’s. The Theory Of Everything writer Anthony McCarten penned the script with production looking to shoot early next year.

According to Deadline, Universal pictures is now in development on a live action Voltron movie, with X-Men and Watchmen scribe David Hayter writing the script. Universal Pictures and its parent company NBC Universal recently purchased DreamWorks Animation, and in the deal received the rights to the Voltron property. The studio would not comment on where the project is headed, only that the project is still up the air because it is an inherited project.

It’s Monday which means it’s time for the weekend box office report brought to you by AMC Theatres. Doctor Strange opened above expectations with $85 million and No 1 at the weekend box office. It marks the tenth largest opening for a Marvel movie finishing just behind November record holder Thor: The Dark World. DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls took the No 2 spot with $45.6 million. At No 3 was Mel Gibson’s critically acclaimed Hacksaw Ridge, which earned $14.8 million. Boo! A Medea Halloween took the No 4 spot with $7.8 million and at No 5, Inferno, which took in $6.3 million.

BUY OR SELL

Looks like Justice League has cast its big baddie. According to The Wrap, Ciaran Hinds, who plays Mance Rayder from Game of Thrones, has already wrapped work as Steppenwolf, bringing the character to screen using performance capture technology. Additionally, The Wrap reports that Steppenwolf will look different than he did in the Batman v Superman deleted scene in which the character first appeared.

With over 15 years spent writing for Marvel’s X-Men comics, Chris Claremont scripted many unforgettable arcs like “Days of Future Past” with John Byrne, and helped to develop the fan-favorite Wolverine into one of the franchise’s most recognizable heroes. Now, the surge of the comics’ popularity in the 90s has fallen off in recent years, with Claremont blaming it on Hollywood.

Quentin Tarantino has been talking about retiring from filmmaking for years now, and set an official cap on his work back in 2014 when he told international buyers at AFM that he would retire after his 10th film. Now at this year’s Adobe Max creativity conference in San Diego, Tarantino doubled down on his statement saying he’s sticking to that 10-film limit, and will in fact retire after the tenth film.

The first image of the Gary Oldman as British Prime Minister Winston Churchill has been released for Darkest Hour, the World War II drama from Atonement and Hanna filmmaker Joe Wright. The film takes place in the days following Churchill’s appointment to the Prime Minister role, as he tries to negotiate a peace treaty with Nazi Germany.

-The Dark Tower delayed till summer 2017

-New trailer released for La La Land

-First trailer released for Trainspotting 2

-Deadpool composer Junkie XL drops out following Tim Miller’s exit

-Olivia Munn joins Shane Black’s The Predator

-New trailer for Office Christmas Party

-Box Office Predictions

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Columbia Pictures is rebooting the 1997 film Starship Troopers, tapping the screenwriting duo of Mark Swift and Damian Shannon to pen the script with an eye towards making the movie a franchise-starter.

It looks as though we’re going to have to wait a little longer for the adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower. According to EW, Sony has pushed back the release from February 17th, 2017 to July 28th, 2017.

BUY OR SELL

Lionsgate has released a new La La Land trailer. Damien Chazelle’s follow-up to Whiplash centers on two dreamers living in modern day Los Angeles: Mia, played by Emma Stone, an aspiring actress who can’t land a gig and Sebastian, played by Ryan Gosling, a pianist who wants to open his own jazz club.

Sony has released the first full T2 Trainspotting international trailer. Danny Boyle’s sequel reunites Renton, (Ewan McGregor), Spud (Ewen Bremner), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), and Begbie (Robert Carlyle), and while they’re no longer addicted to heroin, it looks at though their lives haven’t gotten any easier.

The bad news continues for fans of the original Deadpool and its sequel. First came the announcement that Tim Miller would be stepping down as director due to “creative differences” and now, Deadpool composer Junkie XL, a.k.a. Tom Holkenborg announced via social media that he would be departing as well.

According to THR, Olivia Munn is in negotiations to join Boyd Holbrook in The Predator, Twentieth Century Fox’s reboot directed by Shane Black. While there aren’t many solid details on the plot, THR does reveal that the titular alien hunter will set its sites on suburbia this time around. Munn will play a scientist opposite Holbrook’s Special Forces commando.

A new trailer has been released for Office Christmas Party. Jennifer Aniston stars as a no-nonsense CEO who’s planning to shut down her brother’s local branch, so he (TJ Miller) and his coworkers enact a plan to throw a massive holiday party and impress a client. .

Kylo Ren and Rey Never Met Before Force Awakens Says JJ Abrams - Collider Jedi Council
Today is November 3rd, 2016 and it’s an all new Collider Jedi Council hosted by Kristian Harloff with John Campea, Mark Ellis and Ken Napzok!

Jedi Council is packed with a ton of news today including the big news about a commentary track discovered by an enterprising young fan who pointed out that JJ Abrams revealed that Kylo Ren hasn't met Rey - however - he's heard of her. This opens up the theories a bit about Rey's parentage and whether or not she's connected to Luke in any way, as well as her connection to the Force and, perhaps, even, Snoke. The Council break this down on what it could all mean.

Then, some - sorta - breaking news, with Star Wars News Net saying they have a source that says 'Rogue One' will NOT have an opening crawl as originally rumored. What does this mean? Will there be NO opening crawl in ALL the stand alone movies? The Council weigh in on the good and the bad behind this news.

Other stories include some details on what Luke is wearing in Episode VIII, Neal Scanlan talks his involvement with Rogue One; some comments made about the Young Han Solo movie from the DP of the movie and much more.

Included are the segments 'What's the Deal with Canon' and 'A Short Time Ago, In a Tweet Far, Far Away…' where the Council talk all things outside of the movies followed by answering the fans questions on all things Star Wars! Enjoy the show!

-Disney has already broken the box office record for 2016

-Opening this Week

-JJ Abrams says Kylo Ren has never met Rey

-New trailer released for Sing

Warner Brothers and DC Films have released a new trailer for Wonder Woman. Directed by Patty Jenkins, the film will show Diana’s life on the mystical island paradise of Themyscira, as well as her meeting with Steve Trevor before leaving her home to enter the throes of World War I.

Disney announced yesterday that the studio has set a new global record for itself by marking this year its biggest at the box office to date — and the year isn’t even over. Disney’s previous record in 2015 saw grosses of $5.84 billion with films like Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Pixar’s Inside Out.

OPENING THIS WEEK:

BUY OR SELL

Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams has shed some more light on two key relationships from last year's hit film. Thanks to a Tumblr account Mummies and Lightsabers (via a report from Screen Rant), in the new bonus commentary featured on the upcoming 3D Collector's Edition Blu-ray, Abrams reveals that Rey and Kylo Ren have never met before the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Universal Pictures has released a new trailer for the latest animated feature from Illumination Entertainment, Sing. The film takes place in a world populated by animals and revolving around a koala named Buster Moon, voiced by Matthew McConaughey, who must put on one big spectacular show to keep his theater from closing. Sing opens in theaters on December 21st.

THR reports that The Raid and The Raid 2 director Gareth Evans will write and direct the new film, Apostle. The movie is about “a mysterious man who travels to a remote island in search of his missing sister after she’s kidnapped by a religious cult - which is demanding a ransom for her return.

Jay Baruchel announced yesterday that a sequel to Goon is not only ready, but it’s been filmed and now has a release date and title. Goon: The Last Enforcer will hit Canadian theaters on March 17, 2017, marking the directorial debut of Baruchel.

According to Variety, Sony pictures is eyeing Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez to helm The Girl in the Spider’s Web, the sequel to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Steven Knight penned the script, which is based on the new novel by David Lagercrantz, who took over for the series after the original novel’s author Stieg Larsson died in 2004.

Is Depp Playing Dumbledore In Fantastic Beasts? Ranking Comic Book Movies 2016 - Collider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (November 2nd, 2016) John Campea, Mark Ellis, Jon Schnepp, Ashley Mova and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

-Johnny Depp joins Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel

-Paul Feig wants to do another Ghostbusters

-AMC Rewind

-Joe Carnahan calls Uncharted the anti-Indiana Jones

-New trailer released for xXx: The Return of Xander Cage

-First trailer released for Gifted directed by Marc Webb

-New image and storyboards released for Logan

-2016 Comic Movies

According to a report from Deadline, Johnny Depp is joining the cast of the sequel to Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. David Yates will direct the follow up with production already set for early next year. No details have been revealed about Depp’s role, however, the outlet does reveal that if you look carefully, you might be able to spot him as a cameo in the first installment opening on November 18.

Soon after Paul Feig‘s reboot of Ghostbusters hit theaters, an executive at Sony Pictures claimed a sequel to the movie would happen. All that changed after the theatrical release, where the box office numbers were not as high as Sony had hoped for.

AMC REWIND

BUY OR SELL

Sony is clearly looking for something that will appeal to a broad audience with the upcoming Uncharted movie, but it seems as though they’re willing to trust writer Joe Carnahan with the script, rather than attempting to make an Indiana Jones clone. Collider’s own Steve Weintraub recently spoke to Carnahan who offered an update on the production.

A new trailer for xXx: The Return of Xander Cage has finally dropped online. The film stars Vin Diesel in the title role and is directed by Disturbia’s D.J. Caruso. The sequel resurrects Diesel’s character that was created in the midst of the “extreme sports” craze of the early 2000s, sending him off on another adventure.

Fox Searchlight has released the first trailer for Gifted directed by Marc Webb. The film stars Chris Evans as Frank Adler, a single parent trying to raise his 7-year-old niece niece Mary, who is revealed to be a math prodigy.

Logan director James Mangold has revealed another new photo and storyboards from the upcoming third Wolverine movie. The movie is the last for Hugh Jackman’s character and also stars Sir Patrick Stewart, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal and Elizabeth Rodriguez. Logan will hit theaters on March 3, 2017.

More science fiction in the form of scary aliens out in space will be coming your way this Memorial Day in the science fiction drama Life, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds, and Rebecca Ferguson. Directed by Daniel Espinosa, who previously worked with Reynolds on the movie Safe House and written by Deadpool and Zombieland scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

One movie that has been gaining a lot of positive buzz on the festival circuit is the debut feature of writer/ director Nicolas Pesce called The Eyes of My Mother. Starring Kika Magalhaes, the film will be released in select theaters and on VOD on December 2, 2016 by Magnet Releasing.

The follow up directorial effort from longtime James Wan cinematographer and Anabelle director John Leonetti finally has a trailer. Titled Wolves at the Door and based on the infamous Manson Family murders, the film stars Katie Cassidy, and Bloody Disgusting reports that the movie is a “home invasion thriller set in the 1960s but is not a retelling of the actual events, nor will it reference any Manson connection.” That said, the trailer tells a bit of a different story with the words, “Inspired by the infamous Manson family murder spree” and the final shot of the trailer is the word “pig” written in blood on the door.

What’s In The Box?!:

American Horror Story can’t stop getting ahead of itself. Over halfway through season six and already renewed for season seven, Ryan Murphy has teased a future season of the anthology series that will crossover season one, Murder House, and season four, Coven.

It seems like all of the networks are taking a stab at the horror comedy game. We told you about Fox’s new show Ghosted starring Adam Scott and Craig Robinson, the Netflix original movie Little Evil from Tucker and Dale vs Evil writer/ director Eli Craig, and now TBS is getting into the picture by picking up a series written and starring Parks and Rec’s Aubrey Plaza. Tracking Board reports that the cable network has picked up Plaza’s pilot Nightmare Time, the premise of which is as follows: “Set in Plaza’s Nightmare Clinic, celebrity guests check in to overcome recurring nightmares.

The Flash Movie Loses Another Director - Collider Movie Talk

On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (November 1st, 2016) John Campea, Kristian Harloff, Jon Schnepp, Ashley Mova and Wendy Lee discuss the following:

-The Flash loses director Rick Famuyiwa over creative differences

-Live action Snow White movie in development at Disney

-Opening this week

-Live action Sonic the Hedgehog movie in the works with Tim Miller

-Escape Plan 2 in the works

-James Cameron wants glasses-less 3D

-New trailer and posters release for xXx Return of Xander Cage

-Doctor Strange opens big at the international Box Office

According to a report from THR, Warner Bros.’ big-screen take on the Scarlet Speedster, The Flash, has lost its director. Director Rick Famuyiwa, who was hired on to the superhero project after finding success with his coming-of-age Sundance sensation Dope, has parted ways with the studio over dreaded "creative differences." The departure of Famuyiwa will likely mean the delay of the movie’s start of production and release date.

According to THR, Disney is ready to take on another of its classic fairytales with a new musical, live-action version of Snow White. Erin Cressida Wilson, who penned the adaptation of The Girl on the Train, is in negotiations to write the script for the film, which will expand upon the story and music from the animated classic. The film will also include new songs from songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who most recently wrote the lyrics for La La Land. No release date has been set.

OPENING THIS WEEK

BUY OR SELL

Just over a week after stepping away from Deadpool, director Tim Miller has signed on to develop a live action Sonic the Hedgehog movie for Sony Pictures. From THR’s report, Miller and his longtime Blur Studio collaborator Jeff Fowler will work on the project with Fowler taking on as his feature directorial debut. The plan is to make a hybrid CG-animated/live-action family film with Patrick Casey and Josh Miller writing the script. A release date has not been set.

According to Deadline, a sequel to Escape Plan is in the works with Sylvester Stallone reprising his role of Ray Breslin, one of the world’s leading authorities on structural security and breaking out of jail. Pre-production will commence January 15th ahead of the start of shooting which is set for March 15th in Ohio and China.

While accepting admission as a member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, James Cameron discussed his upcoming four Avatar sequels and how he hopes to utilize 3D technology.

Paramount pictures have released a new trailer and character posters for their upcoming xXx sequel, Return Of Xander Cage. The collection of posters seems to include every character in the movie, beginning with Vin Diesel's return as the title character, Xander Cage.

Doctor Strange doesn’t hit theaters in the US until November 4th, but it’s already making the big bucks at the international box office. According to Deadline, the movie took in nearly $88 million dollars in 33 offshore markets, putting it ahead of previous MCU installments including Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy.
